Amenra was never about being dark and broody, celebrating evil (which is a pet theme with some other bands)... It is about embracing your pain and setting it on fire, to end up purified one song / album / concert at a time... In 2016 they did some Fire Rituals in Belgium, together with an Indonesian fire ceremonial master (there it's a well known practise)... During the weeks leading to a ritual, people were asked to put some of there sorrows and pains on paper and drop it in some letterboxes. The paper were folded and added to the sculpted wooden piles... At the Fire Ritual, finally, people could freely attend the burning of the piles, during which Amenra provided a live soundtrack... The Fire Ritual in Ghent was well attended, also by a majority of people who had never heard of Amenra before, but who had contributed their paper to the Ritual... Purification and transformation of pain, thàt's what Amenra is about... Also, they did a concert at the village square of Diksmuiden (a village nearly erased during the battles of WW.I) for the celebration of the ending of the Great War, 100 years ago in 2018. They were accompanied by a Butoh dancer, Butoh also being a form of art that is also about transformation. It was scheduled as a live ritual in honour to the ones who had lost their lives there during the war and to deal with the heavy memory attached to the place... th-cam.com/video/wTwGUTrDLmI/w-d-xo.html
"Sounds like a man being tortured" is an amazing summary - Amenra's entire vibe is based on pain, both emotional and physical. Not an easy listen, but a life-changing band
Going to an Amenra-concert is a communal cleansing of the soul... A shared catharsis... The music and the cadence are dragging you into a unity with the other attendants and the band that creates a bubble...
Damn man... Pay some frickin' attention...!! Even when the music had come to full bloom and the clip enfolds you just keep on writing and coming back like '...something happened when I was on the loo...?"...
This is not Hellish (for me it isn't, tho)... This is more about the catharsis of the Soul, a purifying... Which puts it in a whole different context...

One of the most intense and amazing bands I've ever seen live. I recommend their song 'Boden'... its one of my favourites
Good video! Saw these guys live last august. Best concert of 2022 for sure
Loved it!
Thanks for the split session Teez. I'm starting a new job and late night will probably be out of the question.
their live performances are pure hypnotic wormhole, you should watch some on YT

FIRST!! Hey Teez!! :)
Spooky song
Second! Hey Teez!
I'd be worried about going to hell after listening to that. Good thing I don't believe in hell.

Amun Ra? The Egyptian Sun god? Druids, English countryside...where are the standing stones?
Their name is a mix of the biblical term 'amen' and the Egyptian God Ra. I think the countryside footage is in Belgium where they are from
Thnx for clarifying
