    making the move to a bigger city is one of those big life moments that i know i'll look back on one day and be so glad i took the opportunity. i've really enjoyed this apartment so far, and it's been cool to see it slowly come together. if you're interested in the koala sofa bed, help support my channel by using us.koala.com/flonought to get $250 off your purchase (until Dec 3 for Black Friday sale). i'm interactive in the comments and enjoy hearing from you all, so drop a comment. i appreciate all your support!

    The clothes in the bathroom made me crack up but such a good use of space since you don't want a dresser. And thanks for showing off the desk been in the marker for one and this one sold me!

    • @flonought
      @flonought  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      😆 i feel ya, other people have given me shit for that too. the apartments i’ve lived in just have so much storage, more than i would ever use for normal items, so it’s a huge space saver for clothes. dressers just take up too much space in a smaller studio.
      and you’re welcome! glad to help with your decision. it’s pretty simple but i love the design.

      I’m absolutely moving my socks and underwear to the bathroom! That’s where I get dressed so it makes perfect sense. I’d never even considered storing any clothes in there before.

      @@RikAhlberg haha hell yeah. that’s exactly why i do it, extra storage space and just makes sense for convenience.

      appreciate it! and totally agree, that's the plan, but saving up some money again for these (not priority at the moment). i'm excited for some kind of big art piece above the sofa.

      @kingdompierce 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@flonoughtif you’re looking for inspiration for a big statement art piece that’s relatively low cost, I diy’d a world map made out of cork board and placed little paper airplane thumbtacks in the places I’ve been.

    • @flonought
      @flonought  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@kingdompierce that's a cool idea but i feel somewhat undertraveled. one of my goals for next year is to travel more in general, especially see some places outside the us.
      i'm really locked in on the idea of a giant oil painting of some sort, little more abstract. i love getting lost in that stuff. i had blank walls for so long at my last apartment so i really need some color at this place.

      For sure, there’s definitely better deals out there. It really comes down to what you as a person are looking for and your specific lifestyle needs.
      At this point in my life, I don’t value/care for a large amount of space; for me it just adds more room for stuff I don’t need. I place much more value on walking proximity to things (grocery store, work, etc.), natural light, nice gym, and in unit washer dryer.

    The way developers lay out apartments makes me think they’ve never lived in one. That closet is ridiculously tiny, especially compared to the larger-than-necessary bathroom and kitchen. Studio apartments need storage space more than they need a giant stove with four burners.

    • @flonought
      @flonought  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do agree with you about most apartment layouts, however I actually think this one is layed out fairly well. I agree, the “closet” is a joke, but the cabinet space in the bathroom makes up for the lack of closet space. I agree with you about the bathroom, if that was smaller it could free up more living/kitchen/bedroom space which would have made it easier to better fit a bed or position the closet elsewhere.
      In some studios now I’m seeing a built-in murphy bed system that’s integrated with the closet too (similar to the row of cabinets look of the kitchen). I think that’s pretty convenient because then you wouldn’t even have to hassle with anything for a bed other than the mattress.
      For the kitchen though, I actually like the shotgun style width of the room. There is more storage than I would ever use, and the four burner stovetop really doesn’t get in the way since it’s almost flush with the counter.

It really is I mean I don’t think it does 3-D stuff really great but I think that’s always gonna be for windows computers although you can do some pretty cool 3-D stuff now in like Photoshop at least for what I do and you know it works fine. Parking a car for $270 is absolutely ridiculous, but living in a $1750-a-month studio with no central air is mind-boggling. I don't mind spending 1750 a month for a one bedroom but that would also include central air

    • @flonought
      @flonought  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For the parking, I agree it’s expensive. No part of me wanted to bring my car to have it sit and be essentially throwing that money away every month (i don’t have a need for a car here).
      I disagree somewhat there. I think that really comes down to you as a person. I don’t mind small spaces so to me that part doesn’t matter, and this apartment has a very nice layout compared to my last apartment; at 419 sqft this apartment feels bigger than my previous 540 sqft studio in St. Louis. As for the air conditioning, that’s not a make or break for me either. I initially thought the same thing, but after living in Seattle for a few months I’ve realized AC isn’t necessary here.
      The price is somewhat more than I would like to pay, but the amenities (that I actually use) and location are a huge factor. Relative to my salary it makes sense for me currently.

      @flonought  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      haha wow, that's a new one for me. that's quite the stretch, but i'm willing to hear you out. how is this the reason for crazy prices?

    • @Erick11998899
      @Erick11998899 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's more so about renting an expensive apartment. Supply and demand. Landlords can increase the prices of other units because people are willing to spend that kind of money to live in a city. (Oddly enough it always seems to be people moving from out of state or the country) Although I would say that the money isn't worth the apartment itself, which is what you're actually paying to use.

    • @flonought
      @flonought  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Erick11998899 okay be honest with me for a minute (if you're comfortable sharing): how old are you? what's your salary per year? what do you currently pay for rent (and is it a studio, 1 bd, 2bd)?
      seattle is one of the more expensive cities to live in, and it's not just the rent, it's everything. i don't think things are cheap here, but the simple answer is i pay it or i live somewhere else. that's really what it comes down to. and it's all relative to what you make, being that the average salary in seattle is higher in general.
      i could have lived in a somewhat cheaper apartment, but there are specific things (for me) that provide a higher quality of life such as a nice gym, walkability, in-unit washer and dryer, which i'm willing to pay extra for (to a certain extent). those things, in any city, come with a higher cost.
      relative to my salary, which is $88,500/year (which after my saving contributions of 20% of my income taken out for 401k, investing, insurance, and all that jazz) leaves me with about $4368/month net, making rent for me (all in - utilities, internet, etc.) about 49% of my take-home pay. add in my other fixed costs such as groceries, small amount of debt (0% interest), phone, and subscriptions, i'm at about 64% of my take-home. leaving 36% for going out to eat, clothes, or whatever. so relative to my salary and lifestyle, this is not a crazy amount.
      do i agree that rent has gotten somewhat insane for the average person? yes. but to what you said in your comment, you're not paying for the apartment, you're paying to live in a particular city and neighborhood. if i wanted to live somewhere cheaper i would have stayed in st. louis.
