Great to see this! would you be able to engrave a picture of the size of approximately 1x2 m? Could you move your material and carry on from where you stopped in the first run?

Yes, if you we’re careful lining the image up with the last cut then yes you could do that.

Ron now it has been 9 mths since you uploaded your video, have you progressed with your smoke and fume extraction and was it effective?

No I haven’t got round to doing it yet! At the moment I’m just leaving the workshop door open!

Hello, I would like to ask about the legs for the laser, are they made by you or have you already found a ready-made model. if so, I would like to ask, I would also like the laser, thank you 😊😊

Hi Ron, I have the same Laser but with the standard frame size, have you cut 6mm balsa yet? I cant decide on a speed and power setting and if 1 or 2 passes is best. I find there is quite a big variation in density as well.

Hi Micky. I've not tried 6mm balsa yet but I'm guessing that it would be something like 1000 mmm/min @ 100% power, I'll try it out on some scrap! Balsa density and colour do make a big difference so I tend to use a higher setting for all then see how it goes. My settings for 6mm ply are 500 and 100% power but if the ply is very light in colour I may slow it down a bit or go faster and 2 passes.

Just tested cutting some 6mm hard balsa. To cut a nice clean unburnt cut I have set mine to 950 mm/min @ 100% 1 pass.

@Ron Gray Thanks for that. I will give it a go.

Good morning, I'm having difficulties cutting mirrored acrylic, I've already done several tests without success, could someone help me?

    • @rongray3888

If the acrylic is clear or white then a diode laser will struggle trying to cut it. CO2 lasers will be fine as they have a red laser beam

Other than black or maybe red, too much light is either reflected or passes right through at the LED wavelength of 450 nm. CO2 lasers, as has been mentioned, operate at 10,600 nm (deep infrared), and acrylic is practically opaque at that wavelength.
