All hail the inventor of the travelogue! Elias Burton Holmes made what is often considered to be the first motion picture (Korea, 1899), filmed New York in 1900 and was the first guy to shoot Vesuvius erupting in 1906. He caught Edward VII and the Kaiser Bill chatting in 1907, as well as early Hollywood stars on a day off, a newly crowned Haile Selasse and dastardly Hitler. The narration is a little sleepy and the music ain’t quite the right fit but you’ll also find remarkable footage of WW1 and WW2, plus pre-war Japan, China, Russia, Venice, all at this link.

Marvelous. Too bad nitrite film is self destructing. So much to save and probably not enough time or money. Wish I could donate.

Sorry. Lousy narration and ANNOYING MUSIC. A SEVERE distraction from the wonderful images. Much better muted
