@@TimberKingHello. My name is Renato, I am 43 years old and 30 of them have been dedicated to extracting and processing wood. I will be moving to the USA. Would you have a job for an experienced man?
Very cool, same process we use here in Maine for cable skidding. Same amount of aggravating stuff happening to haha. Some days are like that. I haven’t broken a main line though since I swapped to 5/8” swagged cable and stopped tying knots in the end, I use the end ferrules Labonvillle sells. I’ve had the same end I reuse for 10 years now. Best $12 I’ve ever spent!
That was 5/8” Swagged cable, but its been on there for a while now. It started out at 100’ but I think it is down to about 60’ now. Time to change it and I have a brand new 100’ sitting in the back of the truck. Thanks for the tip on the end ferrules I will look into purchasing one. I have always used a knot on the cable.
HI IT is Garry Yes,When you file the tooth on the chain,The right way it will pull ribbons out.the chiansaw will drop like cutting through butter, hang on to it.Put Hook on the Tooth it will bite in to the wood. (HM) You have a good day now,Bye For Now.🤠😎🤗
I’m not a logger I found I saw you making interesting cuts I’ve never seen like that soft maple where you cutting the middle so when it fall it doesn’t pull out the grain ?
It is a fairly long skid from back there about 3/4 of a mile. The first winter I was skidding from the back of the job and it was over 1-1/4 miles. Id like a pine job with a max skid of 1/2 mile, but wouldn’t we all…
The Timberjack is not mine.. Me and a friend of mine are working together on the job. He doesn't want anything to do with the videos tho. He bought that skidder new in '98 he will never part with it. I guess those are quite sought after. Its a 240C with a 3.9 Cummins. I tried to run it a few times but couldn't get used to the lever steer. Although it was much better than an old clark I drove once. That Clark had the steering and blade on 1 lever. Every time I'd go to steer I'd drive the blade into the ground....
@@TimberKing haha I hear ya .. nothing like a Deere..the quickness and ease of operation, just hard to find a big cable skidder for sale these days ,I have a grapple but need a cable for those hard to reach places ..keep up the good work on the videos love the 640
I will try the ferrule when I put my new 100 ft cable on. Right now im doing cut split firewood, but can’t wait till that is finished so I can get back to the woods.
Ive always used chain chokers and it works well with how I set my hitch up. I like to start from the closest (or second closest if I have a tree bunched to the road already) slide to my skidder and work my way back from there when I hook up a hitch. I leave my chokers a little loose so that the cable never binds in the hitch and I am always pulling the cable from the end instead of pulling a bow in the cable. When you pull a bow you end up pulling twice as much cable. But if the trees are bunched to the road it works better the other way. If I started using cable chokers it would be a big change for me. It would even change the way I cut the hitch. I guess its just a matter of whatever you are used to and what works best for you.
Hi Thank You, 4 taking the time and explaining in more detail, how U go about hitchin up your skids "Up Nor East. I know U guys use those steel hooks to pull your chains under, but with the steel chockers, they are stiff enough to push through most times. Around here in Wisconsin U will never see a logger using those chain chockers, but I'm sure they have their pluses 2.@@TimberKing
there good stove wood there that what I see yep even the limbs are good it all adds up when U cut the wood ever peace ✌ wood U cut is a peace of wood 4 the wood stove U will notice it quick and the stove feels good w the warm heat on your back 😊❤😊😊TLC/OMG 4 8 2O23
Its a 1988 John Deere 640 D. The D is the last 640 model that has that body style. The next 640 model was the E which was Cabbed in and quite a bit bigger.
@@chrisschreier8433 I like the older John Deere machines as well. They get around in the woods fairly well and are reliable. I like having a steering wheel instead of lever steer like most other machines made beck then

A small plastic wedge would save you from a pinched saw.
I have used a wedge to get my saw unstuck in the past. I usually carry a couple on the skidder but I don’t think I had one at that time.
Good job and have a happy Easter
Thank you and happy Easter to you as well.

Yes I cut them that way when they are leaning. That way the tree doesn’t split and ruin the log.
Looks like a long skid to the landing !

I’ve had hitches like that. Like the other commenter I use the ferrule at cable end. Prefer them over knots. Jmtc

Is there a benefit to using chain type chockers compared to the cable type?

You earned your dollar there!😅
Always seems like the more you try to hurry the more things go wrong when you are logging.
been logging for 45 years all ive ever used is used motor oil for saws neal b.
It seems to work better than alot of the bar oil they sell nowadays. Ive been using it over 10 years now.
We use reg hydraulic mix bout a gall9n of bar an chian makes Lil more tacky cheaper

You are right about that. Nothing feels better on a cold day than the heat radiating from a wood stove. Its the only heat I use
