- His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, is the head of the 900-year-old Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. He guides millions of Buddhists around the world. At the age of fourteen, the Karmapa made a dramatic escape from Tibet. Currently 29 years old, he is based in India and is very active in environmental issues, having transformed 55 monasteries across the Himalayas into centers of green activism. He recently announced that he will establish full ordination for women within his lineage, a long-awaited step that will change the future of Tibetan Buddhism. @@okmmauh different cultures. Another Asian man can behave with greater closeness than we can because they have been friends for a long time. What is okay for him is not okay for us. But don't worry. HHK has dealt with all kinds of people and he is much tougher than he looks. He can roll with many different situations and they usually turn out okay. That is the wonderful thing about abiding in the single taste of Emptiness and Dependent Origination.

The real continuer of the line is Thaye Dorje and he is picked up from 16th Karmapa. These are the facts. The other is compromises and friendly tolerance, because Tibet is still under chinese occupation. That's the truth.

I'm quite impressed by the 17th Karmapa. He's so well-spoken and thoughtful. Calling out the American super hero obsession around 54:00'. Jokingly calling himself "His loneliness". He seems sad though, hardly able to smile. Not the infinite compassion, sympathetic joy, loving kindness and equanimity you would expect from a living Buddha, and which the Dalai Lama seems to be emanating much stronger. Childhood must be quite hard for reincarnated lama's, I imagine. Hope that he is less lonely now that he has a wife and a son.

12-11-2020 22:41:39 .....I have to come in here.... at 1:03:12 / 1:07:13 not quite the samatha that Theravada Visuddhimagga Pa-Uk does .What Karmapa just described has Mahamudra whereby you rest in the nature of the thought itself . This is samatha and vipassana at once in one go. The thoughts rather than produce irritation - give rise to a blissful clear state the extent and profile of this state depends on your familiarity and expertise . In the Anguttara Nikaya the Buddha mentioned about the citta pabhassara but it is affected by agantukakilesa .
I suggest you ask the Karmapa , what is this namtog ngowo choku sungpa shin in the Dorje Chang Tungma , and gangshar tokpay ngowo somate - macho dekar jok pay gom chen la.....

None of the Theravada atthakatha mention anatta-metta . Does Brahmavamso do anatta-metta? Anatta - metta added value to your mind the breadth - depth . The metta-karuna-anatta then goes into the paramita(Mahayana paramita not the Theravada rendition of parami). By the way the first five human arhats were produced as a result of the Anattalakkhana Sutta . Also your brahmavihara will benefit from Bhaddekaratta Sutta (Majjihima Nikaya) .
This Metta Sutta matha yatha niyam puttam verse is so deep and relevant but "underappreciated" by Theravada and/or Metta Exponents .
Please ask Richie Davidson if he has high Powered Tesla fMRI of metta-anatta practitioners versus just metta .

There are dozens of "His" Holinesses from Tibet; but maybe one token "Her" Holiness. This is why I quit Tibetan Buddhism. When they select a new His Holiness, girls are not allowed to try out. The Tibetans think only men are holy. This is very bad karma that is hurting Tibet.

Sometimes it's best to listen to the lesson, not the teacher. No system is perfect. They're just a reflection of the people of a time and place. I like Buddhism but I'll never be "A Buddhist". At least not in this life 😉. But seriously, it's all just variations on a theme of people trying to evolve into a better people. And that course never runs in a straight line.
