Thanks you so much for this ! - There are just some days when I "gotsta get my Alco fix" and this is going in my "Happy Place" file. Best wishes and Thanks Again !
They are meant to be long hood forward, most early diesel engines were as a left over from the steam era but it was quickly realized how much better visibility was the other way around.
In this case the long hood is the front. Road switchers often travelled using Long Hood Forward, as a holdover from steam locomotives where the cab was placed at the rear.
@@stoveapple Agreed. It will depend on what year this locomotive was built as to which type/model of 244 was installed. Our organization has an S-2 and an S-4, each with 539T engines, but they are not exact twins as far as power plants go.
Great video- but with the heavy breathing behind the camera, I was half expecting Micheal Myers to jump out and start stabbing the engine 😂😂😂

What a beatiful machine, and what a beatiful sound
Fantastic sound.
I'm pretty sure I saw this engine working for Kennecott circa 1961.
My son really likes trains especially Alco's like that one.
Good sound and horning.
God its wonderful wayching an alco grumble to life. Not the mention the plooms of smoke
Same and that horn sounds like a tugboat
The only diesel line to count as honorary steamers
can´t believe there are still some that rumble wow
Nice clean loco. I know people have put loco horns on pickup trucks, but a ship horn on a loco?
early locomotive horns are inspired by truck horns, most well known example is Leslie A200
good sound!!👍
One thing that’s always puzzled me, which end is the front and which is the back? I’ve seen them pulling freight both ways

It should be the Alco 244T, V12.
@@durrelljohnson4726 thing is there are different 244 v12 engines.

Nevada means snowy in Spanish. It's clearly an arctic state.
