For a better NES throwback, try Infernax. Over the top 8 bit gore. A co-op mode patched in (which the story acknowledges) Several endings including good, bad, true and secret endings.
Like that motivational phrase: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. Of course, then your eyeballs will boil and your lungs explode from decompression, but that's what you get for being a damn showoff." I have that on a poster in my office.
Hope you do a full analysis on death gambit in the future. I'm currently playing it. I know it's more souls like then metriod, but I seen fighting cowboy say it was the game that got him into metriodvania games.
Death's Gambit: Afterlife is one of my favorite MVs of all time. I'll definitely do a vid on it, but I wanna make sure I do it right. That game deserves it.
That's a shame, I have Belholgar in my PS4 basket for payday. I remember when I was about 10 and got a suitcase full of cassettes for my Amstrad CPC 464. Two of the games were Blade Warrior and Death Stalker. Those were the types of games that got me most excited when I started out gaming. I imagine Beholgar was shooting for something like that
Oh man, this game could’ve been one of my GOATs: a fever dream of a lost Genesis or Amiga title. It looks and sounds so good, and it has a ton of atmosphere. But, the platforming and combat are just…annoying. And where’s the map? How about some sort of direction? It’s not really even an Mvania. There really aren’t that many barbarian games so this was a shame. Lack of polish buried Beholgar. Keep up the great work! Outstanding channel and comedy. Have you tried Batbarian?
At least it isn't a sous-like. Will probably give this a try since I grew up with (and enjoy) NES jank. And gotta respect the stick-with-it from that archer guy. He'll getcha ...eventually.
The visual style reminds me a bit about "After Death". I personally won't be getting this one, but just to add to your commentary - if you shut yourself out of imperfect and frustrating games, you'll also be shutting yourself out from some genuinely great experiences if you're able to deal with that frustration. Not an MV, but "Tomb Raider anniversary edition" is a great example, you'll be frustrated by something every 5 minutes, but also features some really amazing stuff. And there are many games like that. Hell, After Death would count as well.
tray Ghost 1.0 and Demon Skin if u love barbarians , Demoniaca: Everlasting Night i playd beholgar had a game brackin glich at the end were u ghet the snack madalion i daide and lost the medalion but i codan find itat the boss arena and had to restart the game over all i loved the game and recomend it to retro gamers
Savage - Shard of Gosen is a Barbarian MV with some Zelda 2 trappings. It's been in early access for some time like many single dev endeavours but there's plenty of game there already and it has some cool mechanics that aren't common to most MVs. I really enjoyed my time with it but if you want a game that is guaranteed to get a V1 release I'd still say buyer beware. Infernax scratches a similar itch but I much preferred Savage.

There were times while playing Beholgar when I'd have preferred my eyeballs to boil LOL
I would recommend "Roar of Revenge" for your 8-bit Conan metroidvania adventure needs, it's simply much better.

It’s a fun game. But it’s pretty hard - controls are floaty and enemy placement is just unfair at times (yes, f*** those mermaids).

What looks good about twelve colours on screen?
The Sega 16-bit console is capable of up to sixty-four colours on screen.

Always respect the Archer.
Wondering what your opinion on the game "Demoniaca everlasting night" is?
I haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's on the list. I think it looks really interesting. Should I put it higher on my list of MVs to play?
@@MetroidvaniaGuruIt is TERRIBLE but play it anyway
