I feel kind of bad for coming across this manga only a few months ago, I wish I had joined the fandom when it was at it's peak. Now the series is gonna end...
Don’t feel bad! At least you were here for however it was. Dwelling on something you have no control over just leads to regrets which I wouldn’t want you to have! The peak is now or the peak could be in the future. At the very least, you are a part of it!
I cried some tears of happiness at the end, to know that despite the struggles and pains phos has been able to find a true purpose and bring much needed smiles to the universe
For me houseki no kuni was more about phos desire to fit in society, to be able to "achieve happiness" through finding a pourpose, rather than phos desiring for a purpose in life. All the transformations she went through along the way are a metaphor of the desire of phos to be more like the other gems, getting faster legs, stronger arms, the ability to fight, etc. But even tho she was able to "change herself to be more like the rest" she realized that those things didn't brought the happiness she was expecting, and only kept isolating her from the rest, as she was since the beginning. And to have a parallel of this, Ishikawa put cinnabar a long phos to display 2 sides of the same coin. Cinnabar is also like phos, in the sense that she was isolated from the start, has a low braking point and "doesn't fit in the gems society" because her mercury destroys other gems (and even show us since the start, that having a role or a pourpouse in the society, that alone, doesn't bring happiness), but their perspectives are waaay diferent, i would even dare say that phos had it better than Cinnabar, but the main difference is that phos never realized that she doesn't needed to change her self to "fit in", that she doesn't needed to be like the rest, she already was part of the society, she was already accepted and loved by everyone, but she was so caught up in the idea that she had to improve her self to be able to fit in life, that she never truly stop to think about all the happy moments. And because of her tunel vision and her idea that she had to keep changing herself to find happiness, is why she ends up being manipulated by lunarians (meanwhile we later see how cinnabar was able to overcome all those challenge and realized that she was always accepted as part of the gemstones, without necesary going through unnecessary changes) The last chapter cemented this idea further, in this chapter we see, again, a brittle phos playing with super sturdy rocks and getting broken by the gem flowers, but not caring about that, instead accepting it as part of her and being happy to spend time with the rocks, giving us the sigh of an old phos finally realizing that she should have accepted herself as she was from the start, because she was perfect since the beginning.
Desiring to fit in through a purpose or desiring a purpose through fitting in are pretty interchangeable in my eyes as it is more about what the end result is which you stated it perfectly that Phos doesn’t need to do anything to be happy as they are enough from the moment of birth. But definitely understand the argument you are trying to make here though.
Your chanel was my favorite place to discuss houseki, so thank you Inspira! It honestly feels unreal that the series is ending. At least we can all share that feeling in one last chapter discussion😢

Thank you for all your videos so far. The journey have finally end, I've been following it for more than 7 years. It's a bittersweet ending. When there's so much hiatus we complained, now the chapter have arrived I wish there is more hiatus just so I can delay the inevitable.
The only thing I can confidently say is I am very glad there are no longer hiatuses I felt like I was losing my lifespan from the anticipation between the 20th-24th of every month we didn’t get a chapter. But I’ll probably look back of these times fondly a year or so from now as it won’t feel as present and all encompassing

If contest the view that not getting the hiatuses is a luxury. IS it really? I have come to find the wait to be part of the journey. Simply because of their great timing honestly but in that moment i felt like I was phosphophyllite. The time i waited which to these immortal being is gone in the blink of an eye to us with finite lifespans felt like 100 years, like 10.000 years like whatever time passed until the end of the earth. It was agonizing but it was great, rushing as soon as the series picked back up onky to be made to wait again as our eartg and their earth slowly dies. I dont think new readers will have the same experience, as good as it will be because thus manga is so well written and pauses like these are truly for the patient. But idk if id call it luxury
This gonna sound weird but im 23 years old this year. A lot of people around me have moved on from this world. Just a month ago I got the news that my classmate died. He's the third one. It shook me so bad i fainted and ripped my chin, blod just pour out while im laying on the floor, feeling mentally exhausted. It struck me how fragile we are. We are nothing but mere blips in the world, the galaxy. Its an unpleasant realisation, but it's also a necessary one. HnK resonate very deeply with me from then on. As a teen, i thought it was just unique story with pretty animation. But now i grew i realised the profound message it holds.
While its a bit cringy, im sure this series changed us deeply, especially how long it have been running. Whether it's your perspective of life, your belief in religion, your relationship, your interests... Phos journey may have ended, but we are still not finished. I seems to recall a HnK fan art creator from twitter died this year. May they also rest in peace.

I'd say that luxury in the sense that they don't have to wait if that makes sense. The only example I can think of would be something like the Endless Eight arc where even though I watched well after its airing time (this is for Haruhi Suzumiya), I chose the route of watching 1 episode per day to mimic that feeling of waiting each week. Of course it's not the same at all but that choice is there whereas for us, we didn't get to choose. I definitely agree that the long hiatus was perfect in the design that Ichikawa had. Hope that it would come back soon before running through every stage of grief until the end of 2021 when there was nothing of a new chapter in sight for me to finally put it to rest and move on with my life just for it to suddenly reappear out of nowhere. That highest of highs and lowest of lows that time is unrelentless as it moves forward. The other smaller hiatuses afterwards is what I hated due to the anxiety of not knowing in such small spurts that it became more chaotic than anything. Maybe that was the point but I wouldn't wish that on any reader as those small breaks although warranted in every right are what kills that momentum or desire by many fans. Regardless, new readers won't have that option unless they seek it outright. Many might not even know the context between it to begin with similar to I am sure there were many things from my initial binge of Ch 1 - 93 that was lost to time. Just the nature of it all. Something we have to accept without any regrets I'd say. But patience or delayed gratification is what I've been accepting most of my life so this series is no different from that!

Although the internet tends to be very spoiled heavy it's not completely impossible to avoid and go at your own pace. I guess in a sense there is more freedom even if that freedom limits or changes the way certain media is experienced.
This is great in a way I don't have words for. Like u I feel like I got a lot to say but in the "moment of truth" no words pop out so I jus kinda stand/sit sorta awkward & quiet jus goin "so uh, ye" lol. I'm glad u mentioned the youtubers who were there along the way since I've seen most if not all of them myself. I got into the series sometime in 2017 when the 1st season came out but didn't read the manga till 2021 & it only took a couple hours for me from where the anime left off(I even re-watched the anime jus beforehand). The "balance" u mention is also a great point out to me for many reasons personally whether it be for things in my life or other stories that affected me. This series connects wit me in such a unique way & it's caused me to learn new things, be invested in all types of stuff, & have greater appreciation for the other things I love. This is a weird month for me for a few reasons but the main thing was Akira Toriyama's passing announcement. Not to get too off topic but I have a little more than a "profound" reverence for him & his work & the announcement put me in a state that I haven't been in for a very long time & it feels like my brain won't let itself fully process it so it hasn't felt "real" at all yet. So bein here for the endin of the series & seein the prior chps has me in a state I can't describe wit anythin other than extreme ambivalence for more than jus 2 emotions. In a weird way seein this end soon helps & in another it kinda makes it "worse" lol. Well I'd say more but for not creatin an essay & jus the same as u lack of a brain that lets me formulate everythin (I've reached some sorta "limit" ig idk lol) I'll jus say 1 or 2 more things. I really feel gratitude to this series, the characters, the world, & all who've played a part in its creation & my personal enjoyment up to this point. Especially u rn as it's been really fun & insightful the entire way through. I hope I'll be able to catch that stream but I think it'd be cool if u still did it even if only every once in a while. I choose to put meanin in the idea that Phos & Ichikawa can both rest at the very least after this...(prob). I haven't read it yet cus I'm not a jp speaker but I'm really scared & excited. It's not like it could possibly let me down by this point but I still feel this way. Onwards to nothingness ig, the greatest fear but also the greatest desire(?). True Ambivalence is somethin in the middle maybe... lol
Hahahah you described it perfectly. I had so many thoughts going into it and then would freeze because I couldn't actually formulate the words. And I promised myself I wouldn't do any cuts so it just gets a little awkward but it's ok. I remember everytime I would comment on other people's videos, other commenters would be shocked that I was everywhere and that's truly because I enjoy the series so much. When I started there didn't seem to be anyone so it's so great to see all these random videos pop up throughout the years! Sorry to hear about your connection with Toriyama that must've been a huge emotional moment for you. I remember vaguely watching random episodes of Dragon Ball when I was a kid but that was about it. Similar to maybe Miura with Berserk where I loved the series and felt the pain but it didn't really hit me personally if that makes sense. But I can definitely understand that feeling of not being able to work through these feelings and being stuck right in the middle. All I can say is time will unravel everything so just let it run its course. I'll still be around just elsewhere. Maybe on Twitch maybe on Discord maybe on here just not Houseki related anymore. Who knows where the world will take us maybe we get a Season 2 somehow and I'll be right back into the thick of it. In the meantime I'll be away working out these feelings. Hopefully you'll be better in the future as well!

Not to compare but wit Miura it was odd in its own way since I'd been binge readin nothin but Berserk for weeks to months & incidentally caught up pretty much the day the latest chp. came out before his passin was announced. I'd seen the 90s anime & the movie trilogy but the manga gave a feelin I'd never experienced before. It's all really strange
I dream about the days of me actually checking out the series then when I saw the trailers around the screen for the anime because after it and catching up to the start of the Moon would've been an insane spot to be monthly! Super cool that you got to experience that!

There's only Steven Universe, but it's childish and shallow compared to Houseki no Kuni. I wanted to write about similar creatures, but I'm too uncreative. I stick with my classic dragons, knights and kings fantasy I guess... 😂
Now that the manga ended, when will season 2 be released? For the past few years i have been waiting for it but if its possible i wanted it not to be not an anime but rather a movie I think that would give it more impact because its for one sitting to watch rather than waiting for episodes every week, I hope studio orange will pick this anime again....
I know this is not related to Houseki no Kuni but gonna say it anyway. So the latest patch of HSR, I learned more about this Aventurine character which was introduced during Topaz banner, another HSR character (only voice). When he first heard during that scene, he mentioned another character named Diamond and I already knew topaz is one of the gemstone. So I was like, ooohh Houseki no Kuni is the only media that uses gemstone names for characters (well its literally gemstone people) that I watched so far. This is just me when I said this because I know there are definitely more anime/shows that uses gemstones as a name. Ok back to HSR, I didn't know aventurine is actually really is a gemstone. I did assumed Aventurine's name is referring to a gemstone but then again there is another character who also worked with him under the same organization, the IPC is called Dr. Ratio, so I just thought eh maybe it's only coincidence the characters name like Topaz and Diamond being used. Oh little did I know it actually does have significance in 2.1 patch of HSR and they did use gemstone that represent each of them. And let me tell you that HSR have a character named Jade and I think she might be a little bit similar to Lapis Lazuli personality wise. Tbh when I saw Jade's name, I just felt sentimental and remembered Houseki no Kuni all of sudden 😂😂😂.

And yeah outside of someone mentioning Steven Universe I didn't know of any other series that used gemstone names as characters so it's cool to see it here as well. Glad something is carrying on the legacy for Houseki in this way. Love that.
Hnk was an anime that I stumbled across at the ripe age of 11 in 5th grade. It‘s been approximately 6 years since then. I really loved the visuals the art style, yet the anime led me to believe phos would end up happily with all the other gems. I found out about the manga when I was around 12 however I never liked reading as a kid (surprise now i LOVE it). I picked the mange up a month ago because thats when I found out it finally ended. Gods how much I cried. I was mad at phos, always thinking to myself how stupid of a gem she was each time she made a mistake. Only to realise that my life currently aligns with phos. I started off as a young kid not being accepted into my peers and such, not meeting the societal standards, growing up to slowly shape myself into what others wanted me to be. However unlike phos I didnt ascend into nothingness 😂. I stopped caring for what other people think. Sadly ive picked up on it again a year or two ago. The manga made me re-think my whole entire life. The Impact it had on me and the amount ive changed in a month is baffling to me. Thank you, ichikawa. I hope you‘re aware of the fact that you‘ve saved many many lives from eternal self enslavement and thrive for upmost perfection. Genuinely. And thank you too, good sir i stumbled upon like 10 hours ago and started binge watching! 🎉
Happy you decided to give the manga a chance after so many years! Honestly, a perfect timing too because you didn't have to wait for a new chapter and really just read the whole story in one go. Similar to you finding parallels to your own life, I think around your age is when I got into anime and manga myself. My first manga was Vinland Saga and looking back on it post-college/university is when I realized that the way I view the world was from Thorfinn's perspective and I grew up with him as I read throughout those formative years. It's amazing to hear that Phos was that equivalent for you!
Given that there is no one else to complain to, i just want to say that my first(probably only) reaction to this ending was "fuck off another sad ending". I mean, i knew that it was coming but I still hate it. This manga is still good btw just...bugger off with this ending

Maybe that was the point but I wouldn't wish that on any reader as those small breaks although warranted in every right are what kills that momentum or desire by many fans.
Regardless, new readers won't have that option unless they seek it outright. Many might not even know the context between it to begin with similar to I am sure there were many things from my initial binge of Ch 1 - 93 that was lost to time. Just the nature of it all. Something we have to accept without any regrets I'd say. But patience or delayed gratification is what I've been accepting most of my life so this series is no different from that!

Although the internet tends to be very spoiled heavy it's not completely impossible to avoid and go at your own pace. I guess in a sense there is more freedom even if that freedom limits or changes the way certain media is experienced.

This is great in a way I don't have words for. Like u I feel like I got a lot to say but in the "moment of truth" no words pop out so I jus kinda stand/sit sorta awkward & quiet jus goin "so uh, ye" lol. I'm glad u mentioned the youtubers who were there along the way since I've seen most if not all of them myself. I got into the series sometime in 2017 when the 1st season came out but didn't read the manga till 2021 & it only took a couple hours for me from where the anime left off(I even re-watched the anime jus beforehand). The "balance" u mention is also a great point out to me for many reasons personally whether it be for things in my life or other stories that affected me. This series connects wit me in such a unique way & it's caused me to learn new things, be invested in all types of stuff, & have greater appreciation for the other things I love. This is a weird month for me for a few reasons but the main thing was Akira Toriyama's passing announcement. Not to get too off topic but I have a little more than a "profound" reverence for him & his work & the announcement put me in a state that I haven't been in for a very long time & it feels like my brain won't let itself fully process it so it hasn't felt "real" at all yet. So bein here for the endin of the series & seein the prior chps has me in a state I can't describe wit anythin other than extreme ambivalence for more than jus 2 emotions. In a weird way seein this end soon helps & in another it kinda makes it "worse" lol. Well I'd say more but for not creatin an essay & jus the same as u lack of a brain that lets me formulate everythin (I've reached some sorta "limit" ig idk lol) I'll jus say 1 or 2 more things. I really feel gratitude to this series, the characters, the world, & all who've played a part in its creation & my personal enjoyment up to this point. Especially u rn as it's been really fun & insightful the entire way through. I hope I'll be able to catch that stream but I think it'd be cool if u still did it even if only every once in a while. I choose to put meanin in the idea that Phos & Ichikawa can both rest at the very least after this...(prob). I haven't read it yet cus I'm not a jp speaker but I'm really scared & excited. It's not like it could possibly let me down by this point but I still feel this way. Onwards to nothingness ig, the greatest fear but also the greatest desire(?). True Ambivalence is somethin in the middle maybe... lol
Hahahah you described it perfectly. I had so many thoughts going into it and then would freeze because I couldn't actually formulate the words. And I promised myself I wouldn't do any cuts so it just gets a little awkward but it's ok.
I remember everytime I would comment on other people's videos, other commenters would be shocked that I was everywhere and that's truly because I enjoy the series so much. When I started there didn't seem to be anyone so it's so great to see all these random videos pop up throughout the years!
Sorry to hear about your connection with Toriyama that must've been a huge emotional moment for you. I remember vaguely watching random episodes of Dragon Ball when I was a kid but that was about it. Similar to maybe Miura with Berserk where I loved the series and felt the pain but it didn't really hit me personally if that makes sense. But I can definitely understand that feeling of not being able to work through these feelings and being stuck right in the middle. All I can say is time will unravel everything so just let it run its course.
I'll still be around just elsewhere. Maybe on Twitch maybe on Discord maybe on here just not Houseki related anymore. Who knows where the world will take us maybe we get a Season 2 somehow and I'll be right back into the thick of it. In the meantime I'll be away working out these feelings. Not to compare but wit Miura it was odd in its own way since I'd been binge readin nothin but Berserk for weeks to months & incidentally caught up pretty much the day the latest chp. came out before his passin was announced. I'd seen the 90s anime & the movie trilogy but the manga gave a feelin I'd never experienced before. It's all really strange

For the past few years i have been waiting for it but if its possible i wanted it not to be not an anime but rather a movie I think that would give it more impact because its for one sitting to watch rather than waiting for episodes every week, I hope studio orange will pick this anime again....

I know this is not related to Houseki no Kuni but gonna say it anyway. So the latest patch of HSR, I learned more about this Aventurine character which was introduced during Topaz banner, another HSR character (only voice). When he first heard during that scene, he mentioned another character named Diamond and I already knew topaz is one of the gemstone. So I was like, ooohh Houseki no Kuni is the only media that uses gemstone names for characters (well its literally gemstone people) that I watched so far. This is just me when I said this because I know there are definitely more anime/shows that uses gemstones as a name.
Ok back to HSR, I didn't know aventurine is actually really is a gemstone. I did assumed Aventurine's name is referring to a gemstone but then again there is another character who also worked with him under the same organization, the IPC is called Dr. Ratio, so I just thought eh maybe it's only coincidence the characters name like Topaz and Diamond being used. Oh little did I know it actually does have significance in 2.1 patch of HSR and they did use gemstone that represent each of them. And let me tell you that HSR have a character named Jade and I think she might be a little bit similar to Lapis Lazuli personality wise. Tbh when I saw Jade's name, I just felt sentimental and remembered Houseki no Kuni all of sudden 😂😂😂.

And yeah outside of someone mentioning Steven Universe I didn't know of any other series that used gemstone names as characters so it's cool to see it here as well. Glad something is carrying on the legacy for Houseki in this way. Love that.

Hnk was an anime that I stumbled across at the ripe age of 11 in 5th grade. It‘s been approximately 6 years since then. I really loved the visuals the art style, yet the anime led me to believe phos would end up happily with all the other gems.
I found out about the manga when I was around 12 however I never liked reading as a kid (surprise now i LOVE it). I picked the mange up a month ago because thats when I found out it finally ended.
Gods how much I cried.
I was mad at phos, always thinking to myself how stupid of a gem she was each time she made a mistake. Only to realise that my life currently aligns with phos. I started off as a young kid not being accepted into my peers and such, not meeting the societal standards, growing up to slowly shape myself into what others wanted me to be. However unlike phos I didnt ascend into nothingness 😂. I stopped caring for what other people think. Sadly ive picked up on it again a year or two ago. The manga made me re-think my whole entire life. The Impact it had on me and the amount ive changed in a month is baffling to me.

Happy you decided to give the manga a chance after so many years! Honestly, a perfect timing too because you didn't have to wait for a new chapter and really just read the whole story in one go.
Similar to you finding parallels to your own life, I think around your age is when I got into anime and manga myself. My first manga was Vinland Saga and looking back on it post-college/university is when I realized that the way I view the world was from Thorfinn's perspective and I grew up with him as I read throughout those formative years. It's amazing to hear that Phos was that equivalent for you!
