It's fun to read the comments of people who, having never lived in a socialist country (like I have), praise socialism from the comfort in which they live that capitalism made possible and that they take for granted. How proud of their intellect and "understanding" they are, how noble in their desire to take from others what they didn't work for. Plenty of people in socialist countries would be glad to trade places with you - you can have your dream come true right now, just switch with them.
The problem is, this guy is also against social market economies. He seems to be into rendering the US the richest third world country, with abject poverty right next to obscene wealth and upward mobility being as chancy as a lottery win at best.
Today the opening statement by Peter Robinson would be, right now Obama and Romney are busy running up their credit cards. They have some decisions to make: how much to spend on TV ads, how much to spend on print ads. But when one of them is finally elected president, the balance on his credit card will look like chicken feed, by comparison to the national debt.
Pivotal period in US history, this was the time of the switch from the conservative agenda of the 80s/90s to the very liberal model since 2001, and we have seen the results.. Gridlock is the dream...as he states..

I'm confused at the interviewer's first statement. He states Reagan cut marginal income taxes because he increased defense spending and piled up massive federal deficits. Why would the fact that Reagan did those things act as a cause of him cutting taxes? Is he stating that Reagan raised the deficit because he cut taxes and spent a lot of the tax revenue on the defense budget?
George, I think what he said was Reagan cut taxes and the deficit went up because the defense budget increased. Friedman corrected him saying that the reason the deficit went up was not the defense budget but the quicker than expected correction to inflation and that the budget on balance did not increase very much (military up - rest of spending down).
Krugman said it was the unregulated online shadow banking that, among other things, caused the market crash of 2008. So that's certainly something the internet seems to have done.
When he talks about a voucher system, does he mean vouchers that cover a certain cost of medical treatment and if your care costs more than that, too bad? Or does he mean vouchers that cover a certain insurance policy and if the policy doesn't cover what you have, too bad?
Destroying a democracy to avoid majority rule only to open the door to a capitalist dictatorship sounds decidedly like a formula for eliminating political choice altogether. Somehow Milton has convinced himself that pursuit of profits and the pursuit of dictatorial power thru economics are mutually exclusive goals. It sounds like he needs to review 7th grade Civics.
You better read what Smith , Hayek and Friedman said before judging them. And forget the richest. The richest doesnt have any power at all compared to the middle class. The middle class , by extending their rich is crushing the poor. Take all the richest peoples money and devide it to the rest. It wouldnt make any significant difference. After a year or so poor would be poor and middle class would swallow all the wealth.
That's one evil fella. If I understand him correctly he wants to return to the days when people had to have 12 children, 6 of which would survive, just so they'd be taken care of at their old age by their own meshpocha. And if you're a child with bad parents you'd be shit out of luck. No chance at a decent education and upward mobility for you.

CarvingArtdotcom no thanks. Socialism makes me feel cornered and smothered. And i feel it creeping closer still!

Milton was an amazing man, much like Dr Sowell.
Not nearly enough people watch this.. It's so sad to think about while people are arguing about such useless shit in politics today 🙄
Oh boy did the government get smaller. :D
:(
I like peter he reminds me of a less arrogant Donahue.

We need to defend such fundemental principles in modern society, where it seems like everyone is fighting for the opposite side.

Although America's had Gridlock since 2010 as well and that was hardly ideal.
I'd love to hear his thoughts on AIG. That was an example of private investment via an insurance company that was an epic failure.
I was in 8th grade when Bush was elected.
I was in 8th grade!!
Some of Reagan's deficits were also the result of Volcker's high interest rates, right?
Gridlock eh? Maybe Trump did do one thing right. XD

***** In other words because of the slowed inflation the revenue from taxes couldn't keep up?

Sounds like you need to stop building straw men. Yours is on fire.
