Hi Daniel, is the 7900 GRE good for entry level 4K gaming? Already have the card and my monitor finally gave up, so I am shopping for a new one. Thanks!
In lots of games, 4K is achievable usually with fairly aggressive upscaling. For anything else just run at 1440p and you'll be fine. I would go 4K display if you can.
@@lcg-channel Seeing lots of benchmarks where the GRE performs just fine, even without FSR. Older games run very well especially. Will upgrade to the 8000 series if it's any good when it comes out.
Sure, if you are targeting 4k 60fps and willing to use FSR or slightly turn down settings in the latest release games. Got a 6950XT which is almost the same thing and it does 4k 60fps Ultra in a lot of games, sometimes you need mild upscaling or optimize settings to get that 4k 60fps experience but overall strong GPU.
I pre ordered this one for being - A simple offline single player game with no microtransaction and no DRM. But man the game runs very smooth even without upscaling. I thought every single game is gonna running poorly like Alan Wake 2 in the future. Glad some devas still care about people who is not running a 4080/4090.

Complaining about things in the comments is nothing new. You probably just don't agree with it for a change. People like to complain about things that matter to them... and then turn around and call others "crybabies" for complaining about things that don't.
People just complain and often give genuine thoughts on the current situation which is awful. Also more comments means more engagement and it ranks the algorithm ranks the video higher, so it's a win win
The Treviso city location is a good place for testing both the GPU-based performance (lots of RT reflections) and CPU-based performance (lots of people in the streets). Pretty good game btw. Not for everyone, but it might surprise you.
Thanks for another deep dive on game performance! I don't always agree with your takes, but your fairness and commitment is why I keep coming back, anyway. I have a question, if you wouldn't mind answer: I'm probably going to end up building a new PC after the next gen GPUs drop in early 2025. You made a video before about how 1440p with upscaling looks better than native 1080p. Based on how things stand right now (so currently available upscaling technology, RTX 4000/RDNA 3 GPUs), is there a pre-upscaling FPS target so that, after quality upscaling, I'd be consistently hitting 120 FPS in most games? Say a CPU+GPU combo can consistently hit 90 FPS native 1440p on techpowerup's 30ish game average, would you say that hardware could get close to or beat 120 FPS with quality upscaling turned on? Sorry if that's a particularly difficult question, I'm willing to accept "it depends" as an answer.
How games respond to upscaling depends on the game and graphics settings being used. However, I've found that in many games (like this video for example) 1080p native performs similarly to 1440p DLSS quality. So I'd say look for a GPU with the fps you want at 1080p, and that's likely what you will get at 1440p DLSS quality. But again, not in every game.
@@danielowentech Thanks for the response! I'll be looking forward to the videos you'll inevitably make about what the best options are for GPUs in the holiday season.
left this comment on your MH Wilds video, but thought i'd leave it here in hopes, that you'll see it and potentially answer, if you have the time of course In wilds with a 1080p monitor and dlss, ultra settings with balanced upscaling mode, did the game also look grainy to you, if so, would going from balanced to quality or dlss fix this grainy look. if not, would you recommend nvidias upscaling option that allows you to exceed your monitors resolution to go to 1440p? Disabling dlss or fsr which unlocks frame gen is not an option on my system as i refuse to play below 60 fps, stable 62-65 is fine, higher is of course better but not below 60. running on a 5600x, 4070 ti super if it helps
Wow a scripted linear corridor game with barely anything going on is easier to run than a game sporting vast open environments along with dynamic day night weather and lighting system on top of emergent gameplay mechanics in a 100 player lobby, I would never have believed it, mind blown.
That's some crazy optimization right there and the game looks pretty good on various settings. Too bad that this isn't actually the norm, just the rare 5% of games that actually get the polish they so desperately need.
Daniel, in your 4k maxed out system, I see a video bug. Look at the character running through the water that is on the ground while it is raining. They don't splash at all. 🤨
The 4090 is able to run this at native 4K max settings with RT at 60+ FPS most of the time. That's very impressive performance for those types of settings. I am aware that the ray tracing in Veilguard is not as demanding as the ray tracing in Cyberpunk, for example. It's still impressive, though. Veilguard seems to run very smoothly with minimal frame spikes and FPS fluctuation, which ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience. GPU and CPU load also seem consistent. That's good because all of that means a game is usually well optimised.
Could you test it on a non-nvidia. lower end card? I'm currently fighting this game's "optimization" hard and have trouble running it on my 2nd, lower end PC (i5 9600k, 6600XT), horrible framerate dips, FSR looks like an ancient vaseline version, absolutely not happy but with all the tinkering of course already above the 2h return mark. I've seen others with AMD cards complain, while nVidia owners praise it. Edit: Okay, you did an AMD card, should watch first - then I'm not sure what I've been doing wrong. I5 9600K, RTX 2060, 16GB RAM, that was my pc back in 2019~2021. And im gonna tell you this was the best time for me, games used to be optimized, there were no ray tracing games that could not run on rtx 2060 with dlss quality and at least high preset at 1080p60, no ray tracing games i could easily run at 1440p60+... try to do the same with rtx 4060, you cant, you need frame gen... lol but vram being a big limiting factor. the rtx 2060 was one of the best x60 cards ever made, gtx 1080 performance + rt cores + tensor cores for cheap... just a reminder: rtx 2060 used to be 44% of the 2080 Ti chip. rtx 4060 is 19% of the rtx 4090 chip lmao...
Yeah back when 60 class cards were relevant... gtx 760, 960, 1060, 2060 all amazing cards for the time they released. 3060 was decent but you could clearly tell then is where they started cutting back more.

An RTX 2060 still has more RT grunt than the lower end AMD RDNA2 GPUs and the consoles because it accelerates BVH traversal in hardware.

It's super good, ignore the neckbeards who give a game a 0 because there's one awkward scene that goes against their politics.
Don’t try the new one, play the the older one(s) first, you’ll get a better fantasy experience, plus those ones are cheaper anyways since they came out a while ago while still giving you a better experience then this game so if you don’t like the game you still save some money, anyways if you’re adamant on trying this game then check out A LOT of videos and stay away from any from game journalists only look at videos from reasonable dragon age fans (so stay away from shills)
I am having a good time with the game. It's pretty and I enjoy the combat. The writing seems seems to be divisive, but I found some of the characters to have less than amazing writing, but the main plot is more interisting than the big RPG from last year with the tentacle heads. Overall, I think it is a very solid game and shows off a decent pc rather well.
I would recommend playing Dragon Age: Inquisition first since it seems to be a sequel to the old one
Finally some optimize game .
I like this approach. Relieve one to burden the other. It tells me what the game is accomplishing for each. The developers did seem to try to squeeze the most from each, because the frame-rates did not change a huge amount.
I heard that this was originally developed to be an MMO. Thus, the engine is very well optimized for a wide range of hardware

In wilds with a 1080p monitor and dlss, ultra settings with balanced upscaling mode, did the game also look grainy to you, if so, would going from balanced to quality or dlss fix this grainy look.
if not, would you recommend nvidias upscaling option that allows you to exceed your monitors resolution to go to 1440p?
Disabling dlss or fsr which unlocks frame gen is not an option on my system as i refuse to play below 60 fps, stable 62-65 is fine, higher is of course better but not below 60.

veilguard with my 5800x and rtx3070 32gb Ram. 1440p everything on high without raytracing(to much lag) works just good enought.

I don’t need DLSS (and I don’t have frame gen either as frame gen has to cut corners, corners which again affect image quality). it never looks as good as native. I just doesn’t as it lower the resolution internally on the go, it never looks anywhere near as good.

Technically its incredibly well optimized and its amazing how well it looks and runs. Devs should take note of this. But yes it is certainly very sanitized.
There's a difference between being good from a technical standpoint and it running with more fps.
