    Fado May not be your cup of tea but it certainly isn’t boring…. It is raw emotion, Portuguese soul thru and thru, saying it’s boring without understanding it, is an insult to an entire nation!! And this most certainly is not fado… she may have been inspired by it but fado is completely different. I wish people would learn more about it and try to understand where it comes from before giving opinion!!!! By the way, we have many more musical genres besides fado… some very innovative, others more experimental, like Conan a few years back!!! Proud of our artists for always showcasing our roots and being true to ourselves, and singing mostly in Portuguese… we don’t play to win we play with substance , and celebrate our originality and our difference

    Yes. This song is pure quality. Wonderful voice, lyrics. She's singing about letting go what hurt her. Dancers symbolize those thoughts/inner demons, therefore they are depersonalized with masks. She neutralizes them with her scream (Grito). Fado is good, modern or classic. Those who don't feel it are at loss. I'm not Portuguese. My country is Ramonda :). Both songs are something special, the lyrics as well as melodies, voices.

    It's not Fado, obviously. People tend to classify most music from Portugal as Fado, but Fado is only a very, very small portion of the portuguese music.
    The covered faces are to not distract from the main character, the singer. They represent her demons. The scream is when she frees herself from them.
    Salvador Sobral's win (with the most points ever in the Eurovision) was the proof that not always the gimmicks are needed to win the Eurovision. But Iolanda will never win, of course. The eurovision is not only about the music, unfortunetly, it's mostly about friendly neighboars voting on each other, politics (I bet Israel will have a disastrous result, for example...), etc

    I'm Portuguese. A country that lives through music and poetry. Our roots are embedded in music. We had a revolution - on 24th April 1974 -, which brought us out from a dictatorship, and the signal for the beginning of said revolution was two songs playing on the radio, one of which had actually been a Eurovision participant. It initiated the military against the regime. And yet it was all so poetic... a florist in the midst of Lisbon distributed carnations amongst the people, and many of these flowers were placed in the military's gun barrels. It was a peaceful yet effective revolution: poetic. And we ended the dictorship. So we thrive on the pouring of our souls into the world, not worried about being accepted... but instead, pledging to be heard. Our eurovision songs are pure and pure poetry. Impactful, memorable and rarely not of an irreparable elegance. Very proud of Ioland. Such a beautiful song! Such a heartfelt performance! Such a mindblowing voice. And even if biased, I believe it was the most beautiful song this year and that it may end up on the soundtrack of some epic movie. Yes, you do give in to the song! It makes one's blood flow. :-)

    This has REALLY nothing to do with fado 😢 like nothing. The only thing in this video that seems like fado is this thing that ioland did with her voice in minute 2:09 (not the time of the song but the time of your video).
    You all literally almost always call "fado" for our slow songs 😂 idk why.
    For fado, listen Marisa singing "Oh gente da minha terra" live (th-cam.com/video/S2Ip-uUhaoI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I9EQzkbX-gYpYrpq) or Sara Correia (th-cam.com/video/wEjDiqBe0d4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h2TtqD4EuYS9JExH)

    Some points here... In Portugal not only exist one kind of Fado, we have a lot of variations of it; Fado Cantado, Fado Vadio, Fado Corrido, and others..., so saying that all Portuguese songs are Fado, well, let's see the last years, Mimicat, not fado, Maro not fado, Black Mamba with a all english song not fado, conan osíris not fado, even Salvador Sobral was not fado, more like it a disney song ...we have many examples of not fado songs in eurovision.
    For example, to me, for a song at least be a fado song, must have the portuguese guitarr in fado mode, many songs have the portuguese guitarr but not in fado mode, last year for example mostly people thinking Mimicat use a portuguese guitarr in her song, and after all was a normal guitarr with modifications.
    Sra do Mar finish 13th, Maro with Saudade Saudade finish 9th in 2022 inside top 10, Black Mamba was near in 2021 with 12th place.

    • @yairmohr
      @yairmohr  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OK, it's hard for someone who doesn't know all the intricate details of Portugueze culture to know what "a guitar in Fado mode" is. And all of the Portugueze songs that ranked high except for "Senhora" were actually EXTREMELY bad. The beautiful ones usually don't even qualify (think of 2003, 2005, 2012, 2015). Two exceptions were 2009-2010. And I did say Mimicat was very surprising with its different style.

    • @migueldias17
      @migueldias17 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@yairmohr the EXTREMELY BAD one (in recent years), for me was "O Jardim", that song not even was to be winning our internal contest, Diogo Piçarra was the favourite with a very beautiful song, but by bad luck, they found after the semi final that he won, his song was very close with a church song that he never heard it about, but to avoid troubles he decided to resign and "O Jardim" won mostly because people known Claudia from those cheap music shows "Idols", "the voice" , "X-factor", one of them, not recall now, and the last place was well deserve for the song, that was a really boring song, the others i just disagree, but everyone have a opinion, you needed to be portuguese to understand the portuguese feelings in ours songs, we not send songs to win Eurovision, we send songs we like.
      i keep mine, you keep yours.

      @@yairmohrif you don’t understand the intricate details of Portuguese music and culture then why are you commenting on it? I would rather that than sending the usual pop rubbish just to win a contest!

    Hi, as a portuguese, i recomend you to learn a bit more about the origins of the Fado song, and the amazing diversity of styles that are part of the musical universe of Portugal. You are mistaken about what you call boring. And i think you slhould, for instants, research styles like Corridinho Algarvio, Cante Alentejano. After i can give you a free tour of the eighties: Vida Num Só Dia - Rádio Macau; Amor - Heróis do Mar; Cairo - Taxi; Jafumega. This are examples, only from the eighties, what means that you have much more to research before you can talk about what you assume as boring Fado. Have a nice day.

      @@yairmohr the point she's making is that you don't even know what fado is by what you said in the video. And Secondly saying fado is boring obviously your opinion, but how can you say something is boring if you don't really know what it is? That's where you're being a slight hypocrit. Also reacting to the comment the way you did... and so you know I watched the video in its totality. From your unknowingly incorrect comments ( because you obviously didn't fact check the definition of fado or listened to any fado at all) and because of the rudeness you demonstrate towards people who are just commenting on your videos (ultimately boosting your channel), I'm clicking the do not recomend channel button

    I've seen only three of your reaction videos, and guess what, me too, I also felt that I've heard the same criticism over and over again.
    Why do I feel that your react videos are always a bit disrespectful?
    Portugal is a great place to die? Really? Slow and boring like Fado? So disrespectfull!
    You have the right to your own opinion, but please, respect other's language and tradition.
    Fado has it's own identity, surely not everyone can understand the beauty within...
    I guess it's easy to find English songs, anywhere, anytime, even a little bit to much at ESC.

    • @yairmohr
      @yairmohr  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I clarified that I'd love to die in Portugal not as a bad thing, but because it looks like probably the most calm country in Europe, culturally. And I don't disrespect Fado. I just think slow songs are less preferable for competitions like ESC (even simple ballads - I've criticized my own country like 1000 times for sending ballads over and over again in the 2000s, since I thought it was a bad idea even if they were good ballads).

    • @marcelinolebre1143
      @marcelinolebre1143 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@yairmohr I understood exactly what you meant, don't you worry, it's your opinion, that's all. In fact, Portugal is a good country to live in; indifferent to die elsewhere.
      I just think your approach was inadequate and disrespectful, because slow isn't boring for everyone, Fado isn't always slow or sad. You can always criticise being respectful, talking about your own preferences, but never judging other's essence in negative ways as you did: slow songs are boring, ESC spectators don't like them that much because they prefer upbeat songs? Maybe it's easier to reach audiences, for people to vote, but who cares? I don't 😉
      ESC is not meant to be an English song contest. The purpose should be that each country would have the chance to show in Europe and to the world their own identity, language and culture, not doing the same as others in English, just to get more votes.
      There is no need for ESC to those spectators: it's easier to just turn on the radio or search that content in the internet.
