    Litte piece of trivia regarding the Difensa. The name is derived from Mount Difensa in Italy, which is one of the objectives achieved by the US/Canadian joint 1st Special Service Force during WWII. Difensa became a unit "Battle Honour". The knife was commissioned by the Canadian Special Operations Regiment and (as we all know) designed by Bill Harsey. It is the defacto CSOR unit knife, which Operators earn upon completion of the Special Operations Basic Qualification Course.

    Awesome knife my friend!
    S45 is a pretty significant boost over S35. It has better edge retention, it's a little tougher, and it's also a little more stain resistant than S35.

      Is it really tougher?

    • @W49Boowie
      @W49Boowie หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@johnmoder5306 S35VN is actually slightly tougher than S45VN.
      S45VN has better edge retention and better corrosion resistance.
      I bought the S35VN model and then skipped the S45VN and I bought the Magnacut version with the black DLC and black Micarta handle scales.
      I can't see myself buying the S45VN version.
      It was a bit of a disaster for Crucible when Thomas Larrin figured out the formula for Magnacut because it out performs S45VN in every category.
      S45VN is no slouch by any means, it's a fantastic steel, it's just that it only had a very brief period of time when it was the new super steel and the Magnacut was invented and blew S45VN out of the water.
      Considering the S35VN versions are more or less a collectors knife now it could mean that after the Magnacut hysteria has died down that the S45VN Difensa might be able to picked up at a knockdown price because in some respects now it's the less desirable model.
      I would recommend the S35VN model over the S45VN model just because S35VN is just that little bit tougher and that's a very useful attribute with a blade profile that has an acute tip such as the Difensa.
      They're ALL great knives, but as everyone knows the Magnacut model is the best version of it yet, but apparently Larrin has now developed a new and improved Magnacut formula, but I'm stopping here, but if I find an S45VN all black at a good price, well I'll probably buy that too! Lol!

    The difference between CPM S35VN and S45VN is minimal. Additional carbon and chromium and they added nitrogen. So it is slightly less tough, has improved wear resistance (holds the edge longer) and is more resistant to corrosion. Nitrogen improves the Carbide my preventing excess chromium from forming subpar Carbides. Knife Sterl Nerds has a way more in depth discussion on CPM S45VN.

      @@LegionTacticoolCutlery I'm with ya on that one. I've always said, I doubt that I'd ever notice the difference between a super steel and almost any other steel. The only thing that I'd probably notice is if the knife had a bad heat treat and it shattered, chipped, cracked, or broke or bent.
