Beautiful karate and amazing Aikido skills. As a teacher and practitioner of Aikido you did very well Shihonage and kotegaeshi. The fluidity and the power you generate from your Center (ki) is unbelievable. 👏👏👏 OSS 🥋
I remember back when I lived in Hawaii back in the late 80s, I was visiting a Goju Ryu class at an Okinawan temple near university of Manoa. I was watching the head instructor sparring with one of his black belt students. The student was sharp and crisp, a man in his early 30s. The instructor sparring with the student moved like a man in his late 30s early 40s, with incredible athletic skill and finesse. I later learned to my utter surprise and disbelief that that instructor was 65 yrs old. To watch an advanced black belt at 65 yrs old move just like Sensei Hotton was not only amazing but transforming as well.
it is very difficult for a 65 y/o to have high kicks that good looking. usually their hip joint is compromised by then. I'm in my 40's, my kicks are powerful, with good form, but my high kicks are no where near Sensei Hotton's..
In someone that "experienced". His kicks transcend, and incorporating zen with martial arts or anything else is important. Meditation is underappreciated or undervalued in practice, and it is more important than most factors in the discipline. He stated function first dictates more than the form. This is another way of finding purpose over literal action. In meditation, the understanding is that language is limited and can only convey what is meant, but it cannot convey the right message without the decoder intercepting the feeling. The reason he talks so much is because it can be frustrating explaining what one knows to someone else who does not because words cannot truly capture the experience. The experience must be felt; Intellectualizing the process is the 1st step. And a person either gets it or they do not; Otherwise they have to continue practicing until it just clicks one day and a person will know it when they get it. I found it amusing that there were young kids. This is more like a master class.
I love your Sunday Morning Keiko Hotton Sensei. I would like to hear, may be you have already said something, but would like to hear your views on aging and martial arts practice and maintaining you quality of technique.
SKA BB here.. what org does rick train with?? It is said that the heart of karate went to America with Oshima by Master Egami...but I am very impressed with Rick's technique. Clearly works. Who did he train with and who does he train with now??

0:11 that guy really trusts Hotton, not even eye blink.
Rick is the only martial artist who explains this philosophy, in this particular way. Phenomenal.
I'm in kyokushin karate but this is just incredible! The power he generates is insane!
It's so inspiring to enjoy content featuring Sensei Rick. He comes across enmenshed in his art, and sincere in both his practice and sharing.
Love this video. The opening and closing moments - framing the core, with such grace in the communication and teaching.
I've followed this man for many years. Where he's talking is my old academy. I'm absolutely gutted I missed out on such an experience.
OSS Sensei
Excellent! Torque, power, speed, control!
Wow that snap on the side kick is superB
Sensei Horton is the BEST ambassador for martial arts for a global audience. Simply the perfect messenger.
Isn't he about 65 years old now? I've never seen such mastery (In striking) from someone that old before. His strikes sound like cannon fire.

Amazing techniques and skills, for me Rick Hotton is the present essence of the whole Shotokan Karate....
A lot of insight went into those comments! Sort of a “been there, done that” evidenced in what he says!
He is real Karate $ Aikido Master.....
Impressive karate ..oss
I golf and it’s similar, when you make a (occasionally) good strike it’s effortless…
Gracias

Shotokan or not, I saw there some clearly “aikidoesk” techniques, not to mention the “whip explanation”… But great synergy, and very motivational. 🙇
Yes, he's also very adept in akido 👍🏾
Masterful Work. Ooss!!!
Sensei Hotton
Is the Real Deal 🙏
"A função determina a forma"
🙌🏽🙏🏽
Amazing yoko geri
Good
❤❤
Oss! 🇧🇷
It would be nice to see you free sparring...
Why he is doing aikido?
"Soatome Sensei has been my best karate teacher, despite being primarily an aikido instructor." Rick Hotton.
Why wouldn't he?
His movement is excellent. His hair is really bad.
I agree,...the hair that is!
