Like some others here, I have a Bronco II. It's a 1987 4x4 XLT, 5-speed manual, with A/C and the pushbutton 4x4 system. 219k miles on the 2.9 V6 and running strong! In great shape as well. Great little rigs. Thanks for the upload Nathan.

my first vehicle was an 86 bronco 2. It got passed down from my parents who purchased it new. Went really well in the winter. When I sold it it had 200k on it Original engine. The manual was rebuilt once. Frame was starting to rot by the rear wheels because of the salt here in PA. I'd own another one to tinker with for sure. Always wanted to get one as stick a 302 in it. It was a little top heavy but as long as you didn't drive it like an idiot it was fine.
My parents bought one new in 86, I drove it a lot. never was afraid it would roll over. They passed it to us as a wedding present. Through it's life it had one issue, the valve cover gaskets leaked. I sold it to a friend who gave it to his teen age son. He was T-boned by a driver that blew through a stop sign doing better than 40MPH. Sent the BII rolling a couple of times. My friends son walked away from that. A few years back I bought an 88 that had been neglected as a "winter beater", lord knows how many times the odo has rolled over. It's still running and it goes on the snow and ice in 2wd like most 4wd's. In 4wd it's unstoppable. It's turning circle is ridiculous, You can back out of one space and into the space two over. The back seats are good and if you fold them down you have a nice sized flat floor.
My first car was an '86 Bronco II XLT 4x4. I have it to this day. I turned 16 in 1998 and drove that rig all Summer long while gas was 99 cents per gallon. It was great growing up then. I'm very blessed!!!
I have 89 and it’s in great condition it’s got a rebuilt 2.9 liter v6 with 49000 miles on it I just put a new transmission and diff in power window and interior looks incredible for its year no rips tears or stains no weird smells plastics and stuff aren’t faded or cracked chrome pieces in the Exterior are all in really good condition although my paint is pretty faded I’m saving to have it completely repainted in a metallic black with dark red pin stripes
I loved the 88 Bronco ll I had. I drove it for 15 years and it had 216k miles on it. It was the first year for fuel injection and was a 5 speed manual. The only thing I did to it was one water pump, two thermostats and a high pressure hose for power steering. It still had the original clutch when I sold it. Fun to drive.
Oh you had the '86? I had one, did you have problems with the fuel injectors flooding the motor at start up in cold weather? I used to have to try to start it, then get out, pop the hood, unplug the fuel injector harness, get in, start the motor, get back out, plug the fuel injector harness in before the motor burned up all the fuel it had been flooded with, shut the hood, and get back in. Other then that it was a trouble free truck.
Thanks Nate, ticked me off what ol Tommy had to say about the B2. My advise to him is, talk about things you know about. I have two with 2 more coming. I get thumbs up everywhere I go. When done up right, they can hang with anything similar off road. I call my off road version the JRU, " Jeep Recovery Unit". In comparison to the first gen Bronco, they are longer more comfortable and just as capable and look better. Like anything off road, they get modified.The JRU has a rebuilt ported/ polished/ balanced 4.0L OHV, a built A4LD, that works great. Cooling is a big factor so I added two trans coolers, one engine oil cooler with a duel core rad. FORD 8.8 locked rear with disc brakes, Ranger duel piston from calipers, D35 TTB LS front axel, WARN 37790 D35 locking hubs. This was the B2 FORD should have built BUT the OEM B2 was a great little SUV. One in good condition sells for good money in the North East, people love them. Thanks again for an honest report on the underappreciated B2.
had a 84 then 86 Bronco II, towed them behind my motorhome, great rigs really like them. My last was a 1992 Bronco "Nite" package which I loved. Doubt the ranger based new one will peak my interest.
I drove a 1985 Bronco II for nearly a decade. As Nathan pointed out, its small size and maneuverability made it a formidable off-road vehicle despite its shortcomings. The 2.8 carbureted V6 had adequate power for the 55 mph highways in the 1980's, but was sorely lacking in low-speed torque for off-roading, especially with the 5 speed manual transmission. The later 2.9 EFI V6 with the 4-speed auto trans did much better. My Bronco II had the "off-road" package with a limited-slip rear dif that worked pretty well. I also added a winch bumper and Ramsey 6,000 lb. winch. I solved the Bronco II's "tippy" issues by installing slightly larger tires (215 75R15's replacing 205 75R15's), stiffer front springs and heavy-duty gas-filled shocks. It had only adequate ground clearance (about 7.5" with the larger tires), but made up for that with its maneuverability. I drove my B-II over some of the very roughest 4WD trails in the Rockies and it never let me down. I sold it with just under 100K on it, and it was still going strong with minimal problems. I would have kept it, but the little V6 just couldn't cut it in the 65 mph+ world of the 1990's.
I had an 84 with the limited slip "traction lock" front and rear diffs, I never could spin the tires, oversized tires and the 2.8 wouldn't allow a tire to squeal. But on black ice in 4wd, that thing would go uphill all day and not lose traction until you slammed on the breaks lol
I daily my 89 B2 that has 143,000 on the clock. Thing runs great and hasn’t been too “tippy” for me. I absolutely love my B2 and will try and find a couple more. Thank you for the video! ✌️
I like bronco 2 1986 than bronco 1986 the interior only the steering wheel for bronco and the bronco 2 the tire cover looks better than bronco 1 cover also horse logo bronco 2 and diesel option
My first car in high school was a baby blue 1986 2.9L Bronco II and it was awesome! It never got stuck, even with bald tires. I wish I hadn't sold it when I was heading to college. I bought it for $2900 and off-roaded the hell out of it. When I traded it in for a new truck they took it for $2700. I would love to get another one.
I learned to drive on my dad's Bronco 2. My first daily, was my father's second 89 Bronco 2. My grandma had a 84 that we used to use to go to the beach. One of my life goals is to find a Bronco 2 and rebuild it. That little SUV is a KING off-road. It got me through a lot of tricky situations in the winter. I was really hoping that the new lil Bronco would be more akin to the Ranger and the Big Bronco, akin to the F150, like the old ones were. But the fact that they are based on the Ranger for the BIG one, and the escape for the small one... i dunno, i feel like they missed an opportunity.
I love my 88 Bronco II Eddie Bauer, 2.9 v6, all stock and 167k. Going strong. Fun weekend adventure truck and although it doesn’t have a ton a power, it’s still fun to drive.
I have 1983 Bronco II . I love it . It will travel in snow when other vehicles are stuck. It is very easy to parallel park. It is a V6 with enough get up and go!
My dad had a 1985 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer that he bought brand new from the dealer for about $15K-$16K. My dad put almost 280K miles before he gifted it to my uncle, which he put another 70k miles on it before he sold it to someone else. I was really surprised that the truck lasted that long.
I had a Bronco II. Really bad fuel milage noisy under powered 2.8 with solid lifters. It had the typical rubber band transmission that would rev to 3000 rpm before it would move. But I loved that thing. It was amazing for going rock crawling. Mine spent a lot of time off road. Mine was silver on top black on the bottom. It was a lot of fun to go off road with. And very good in the deep snow.
I have a 1988 Bronco II, bought it new. I drove it until 2000. Love my Bronco, I had two little boys who came home from the hospital in this car. We had a blast in this car. They both drove it in high school, they were so cool. A true one family car. Its been sitting in my drive since 2014. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. Thanks for the info.
We had a ‘86 two tone red and silver Bronco ii growing up. A nice looking truck. I remember my Mom always had to floor up before we went up hills. Unfortunately the transmission kept going out when I drove it in high school. We still have it. People stop all the time wanting to buy it till they see it has the automatic.
OMG I remember these Bronco's back in the day ! The Ranger based Bronco's sold pretty well at the time even though they only offered a 2 door short wheelbase but once the Ford Explorer came on the scene it became Ford's cash cow ! Be Safe ..
The bronco ii is very close in size to a 1st gen Broncos the only thing that the bronco ii is missing is the top don’t come off and the engine isn’t a v8 I think the bronco ii is a very good rig I own a bronco ii that i fixed up it isn’t a good for a daily driver but it is a great truck for trails and offroad adventures
Great Video and just subscribed!Have put over 200,000 on 2 of them.Had a 87 auto and still have a 90 2.9 5 Speed thats my daily driver for 10 years now.They are now collector worth in my opinion.NADA lists it at 4775.00 to 7600.00 for a 90 model.The people selling them for 2500.00 just dont know it unless they are selling a clunker.Stay away from the Auto A4LD they wont hold up.The 2.9 5 Speed is a good motor and transmission if maintained like you are suppose to.My 90 that I drive every day has 232,000 and gets 20 to 22 mpg.Got it at 150,000 and the family did not know what Oil their father used who had passed away.So I am using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and change it around 4000 miles.Oil is cheap motors are not! I have a 3 inch lift with 31 x10.50 BFG,s.In 4 wheel drive it pulls like a Bear and goes anywhere in my Virginia mountains and deep mud.On Interstate 22 all day long with a good tune.Get Comments all the time how good it looks.I would turn 5000 down all day long!What could I buy for that price to replace it.Not much and my 90 has good metal in it for sure.Anyway thats my experience with them and hope to paint my soon as its still Factory Paint on it.Also I give the full Synthetic Oil a lot of credit they are just a better oil from years ago.Thanks for the Video!
I picked up a 87 Bronco II last year pretty cheap. Just needed a new fuel tank and pump and some fuel lines replaced. It’s the Eddie Bauer edition with the 2.9\auto. Been a good little truck so far! The early 2.9 is not the greatest motor in the world however and should be treated with care.
In 85 my parents looked at the bronco 2 but decided to get the fox body LTD instead. Come winter they wished they did get the bronco as the LTD sucked in snow. Now my parents traded in a 78 ltd station wagon that was a beast in the snow. Now the bronco 2s are going for some big bucks. Have seen them in the 10,000s.
I believe this too. Such neat, good looking little trucks. Much prefer these over the big OJ style Broncos. My father owned a few when i was a kid. These and the fox body mustangs always stuck with me from my childhood.
My 1990 daily Bronco II has 250K miles and is not tippy at all, which I personally (and accidentally) tested. Didn't budge and I have taller than stock tires.
I had an '86 Bronco II in my early 20s. Bought it in 1990. I loved that little truck. It was my mirthmobile. I traded it in for a 1994 Ranger in 1995 after an old guy bashed in the drivers side door in a parking lot.
I remember getting the letter from a lawyer inviting me to join the class action lawsuit over the supposed instability of the Bronco 2. First time I've ever answered a letter from a lawyer, they said that the truck would tip over if cornered hard at 50 mph. I told them that if you are trying to corner a 4x4 like you would a sports car you do not deserve any money as you are an idiot. Couple months later I received the don't drive this truck like a sports car dumbass decal that the court forced ford to mail out to owners to stick on the drivers side visor.
I have had 5 Bronco Its over my life. I currently own 2 of them. The problem with them in our current world is a 75-85 mph speed limit that pushes a 2.9 to the max or worse, 2.8. If you get it to 75 mph the braking system will likely be the death of you and those around you when you loose control under heavy braking. They were NOT meant for today's highway speeds. Beyond that, I love the little things. The interior was far superior compared to the Small Wranglers in comfort for the back passengers and had more storage out back with the seats up or down. As far as safety goes, I never rolled mine and drove it pretty hard. Like any 4x4, you have to drive like your in a 4x4 meant to go off roading. I spent of lot of time driving my parents 1991 4.0L, stick, Wrangler and straight out of the box, it is a better choice for a modern daily driver. I have a EFI 5.0 SAS 1984 BII right now and have a bit of work to get it where I want it to be, and it is a fun rig to drive and will be a great vehicle to drive even on modern highways.
Bought my first bronco 2 XLT 2 1/2 years ago put a new engine in it I could not be more happy driving that 30 year old vehicle! I love it and from the compliments I get so do other people
I rolled my 91 full size in high school back in 96. It broke my heart. I just put a vortec supercharger in it and I was testing it out. It seems that soft sand plus speed and sharp turns equal rollover. I pulled out the 351 and sold it to cover my hospital bill.
I was down to the Ford dealership yesterday, and it got me really exited! The new escape is very nice. The ecosport is actually the ok'est thing I've seen out of Ford in a long time. I see them matching chrysler in styling and gm in interior quality. Ford has also endured the growing pains to now have reliable turbo 4s and 6s. Turbos are about to dominate. Infact I see the 20's being the turbo decade. I haven't driven the new Ford's at all but if they have improved thier chassis tuning as much as they have thier style and interiors then I might now be a Ford man!
My Dad had one, I drove the mess out of it. His had a 2.9L with a 5-speed. Not super powerful, but didn't they offer a 4.0L like the Ranger? The 4.0 wasn't super terrible on power back then in my Ranger.
The 4.0 was never put in the bronco ii from the factory but lots of people swap the 4.0 into the bronco ii since it’s pretty much a direct bolt in swap
@@jessewilliams2990 thank you. I had one in my '92 Ranger and for the time it handled 33's pretty decent. Nothing compared to power output of today, but not terrible for the time
They are much harder to roll or flip than what most people think and say. The point at which a bii will roll over.. is the same point a Wrangler would.. or a Suzuki samurai.. or a two door blazer.. it's mixing stupid and crazy that gets you roof side down. Choose one not both.
The irony is the dimensions of bronco and bronco sport will mimic the bronco and bronco 2. The midsize ranger its based on is only slightly smaller than a full size truck of the mid 90s when the bronco was last produced and the bronco sport which is similar in size and based on an escape is dimensionally similar to the bronco 2 I can't wait to test the RBV (Ranger Based Vehicle) bronco

The Bronco II Us actually bringing really good money these days and I've already sold 2 in the past year and have a 89 Model Eddie Bauer Edition that I am the second owner of since 1994, it is in very nice overall condition and it needs the headliner replaced and a fuel pump... I will be selling it after I get the couple of odd and end things replaced on it and I'm located in the southern WV area
I had an early carbureted v6 Bronco 2,,, my thoughts solid Dependable rugged Welbilt easy to maintain indestructible some kind of limited slip rear differential and one hell of a good grab in front differential,,,,, after getting a new vehicle this became a farm truck pulling a full size pickup box trailer with anything from fencing , wood cutting, tool truck (( all will pill old full-size pickup box trailers with a dedicated roll for each)) then we're leaving on the Platte River in Nebraska in July we started running the river in jeeps and whatever you had ,,, that Bronco II could falow anywhere or modified Jeep been ,,,,, as we're getting record droughts in the river was dropping we were starting to run from town to town on the Platte River to mud bogs quick sand sand traps what EVER (( can I count the amount of times the stock Bronco II went into water holes with Water way over the hood and windshield never skipped a beat)) the Bronco II started becoming the send the Bronco 2v through first and the modified shiny Jeeps would follow after....... change the fluids once a year get the water and sand out .... did three Summers a Platte River running in the Bronco 2 ,,,,,,, then somebody wanted to buy the legendary Bronco 2 which I sold it and it became a daily driver for years after,,,,,,, solid. trucks no plastic no crap indestructible dependable,,,,, if it weren't for the fact and 6 foot 5 350 pounds I probably still have that tiny Bronco 2,,,,,,,, but I got tired of shoe horn in myself into that thing every time I drove........
if Ford follows through on what they are sayin about building a compact pickup and keeping it affordable and simple, lookout competition, contractors and weekend warriors will clean them out
I have a 88 BII super clean. Its my daily and works like a champ. Folks always hit me up and say its a classic, and to put a Club on it or else it will get stolen.
I recently got some land that had a few old vehicles left on it. One of em is a 84 Bronco II that looks all original down to the hubcaps. I had to fight back vines of Blackberry's to recover it and the registration was last done in 09. I have no idea what to do with it but it's too nice and complete to just scrap.. Help! looking for inspiration.
I have an 88 bronco 2 with a 3 inch lift and lockers front and back. It is in good shape. But it is starting to rust out in some areas. My father has at least 6 B2 in his yard.
Fun fact (or not) The '84-'90 Bronco II had the highest death rate of any vehicle ever produced. As a big Ford fan and Ford owner the safety record of that vehicle is an embarrassment. They were too narrow and had too short of a wheelbase to be operated safely at higher speeds especially with a rookie driver behind the wheel. Whenever you look at the sun visor rollover warning label on your truck or SUV you can thank the Bronco II for that decal.
I am old enough to remember these things when they were new; they were rushed into production to fight the jeep Cherokee. They were not well designed. And they rusted like crazy. For at least one year they put the horn button on the turn signal stalk. They were small even by the standards of the day. Tall and narrow much like the explorer that came after it, although worse
Been there, done that, won''t do it again. While this is only 1 anecdotal data point, I owned and drove a Bronco II for several years. It was a fancy Eddie Bauer model but even with the upgrades it was NOT one of the more memorable vehicles that I've owned. One can only hope that the new Bronco does not follow too closely in it's footsteps.

Bronco Sport similar to LR Discovery Sport. Big Bronco similar to LR Defender. Both having 90% of the capability at 60% of the price, giving the traditional great Ford value proposition.
I loved my Bronco II, so unbelievably capable off road. I'd wager it'd still outperform a modern Wrangler off road, just because it was so short, and light. Total death trap on road though. The two wheel emergency lane change, was a real problem..
The Bronco 2 was the Edsel of it’s day. The only redeeming quality of this truck was when you sold it for pennies on the dollar just to be done with it! They were expensive, build quality was non existent, it tipped over in a light breeze, rusted on the showroom floor and the engine would taunt the transmission into breaking first but both were in direct competition to leave you stranded at the most in opportune moment. Assuming the wire harness didn’t beat the mechanical components to the job first by spontaneously combusting into a rolling fireball that went up in flames faster than a pool of open gasoline . Yes, its quite clear I hate theses things along with the Ranger truck of the day. The Ranger sales suffered for many years after the re-design, the Bronco name was canned for the Explodere, which had it’s own set of problems but was a 10x better than the Bronco 2. I’m surprised there are any left for sale some 35 years after production. If you find one, just walk away, you’ll thank me.
Well said Scott. It's funny how people that never lived through the 70-80's when these types of cars were new, think that owning one now would be cool. They were shit then, and if they've managed to survive to now, are not worth waisting your time on.
@@donleamon8653 So true. The 70's and 80's were pretty bad on many levels and the big 3 auto makers marched lock step in the disappointment department. This junk had no power, got no mileage and except for a scant few, all uglier than a dead possum that had been hit 2 or 3 times by a city bus...Out of all of the hosts, I find Nathan to be, well not the best when it comes to some of the subject matter. He's in prime form with this one...
Buddy, your totally full of it! I've owned a 89 B2 XLT since late1991 to the present, has close to 300000 on it ,had a transmission get rough and had a bearing replaced , a H2o pump and alternater plus a couple battery's. It's been a great vehicle, it's getting up dated, EFI 5L, TheT 5 transmission, Atlas transfer Case, and more! The B2 is much more driver friendly then the Old Broncos, l've owned both!
@@paulratzlaff2935 I was plenty full of my brand new 87’ that lit fire and left me stranded in the middle of the desert! I was fortunate enough to get it lemon lawed and did receive full compensation for the truck, my time and out of pocket expense during my unhappy 9 months of ownership. If I recall right, I put more miles on the rentals I drove than the truck. I have since owned a few Ford products and have been quite happy with my Fox body Mustang, Marauder and 6.0 power-stoke of all things. No to too the II, assuming you can find one that isn’t a heap of melted steel and plastic. All kidding aside , consider yourself blessed your Bronco hasn’t tried to incinerate you. If you have ever been in a vehicle fire, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
@@scottg391 A recall went out. back then for the Bronco II AND the Ranger for the fuel injector hose that supplies fuel for the injection rod,a clip was put on to keep it from sliding off,it only took two minutes to do, while at the dealership for this recall I had them take care of other things under warranty,I still have my Ranger and B II.
I have given up on the Broncos release. Been waiting since the announcement 4 years ago. My SUV is in need of replacement and I’m not waiting another 2 years. This is beyond ridiculous Ford. I’m going with the Ranger FX4. That’s trail worthy and I can haul my boat! I was so excited about the Bronco release and Ford has delayed it so many times I’m sick of hearing about it and totally lost interest. I’m sure many people have already lost interest too.
Steve D LMFAO the official announcement came 3 years ago (January 2017). And every since the leak (2015) the bronco was always a 2021 model year vehicle. Meaning production to start Q4 of 2020 and hitting dealers late 2020/ early 2021... Covid pushed that back to early 2021 nothing else. And that’s only 2-3 months later than the original date set In 2015!!!!!...... so I fail to see how your lack of intelligence or a pandemic is fords fault...

I like what Im seeing at ford these days. Infact if it weren't for the new Broncos and Trailblazer I'd be trading my Tacoma for a Ranger the new Escape. Now I need couple years to see how all these vehicles do. Try, see, fourm, etc.
Not with the turbo 4 cylinder, coming from experience the turbo is connected to the down pipe. Which is connected to the exhaust system, which the back pressure of exhaust spools turbo. Downside is carbon build up, locking turbos blades and internal veins. Naturally Aspirated, or Supercharged engines are the way to go

My parents bought one new in 86, I drove it a lot. never was afraid it would roll over. They passed it to us as a wedding present. Through it's life it had one issue, the valve cover gaskets leaked. I sold it to a friend who gave it to his teen age son. He was T-boned by a driver that blew through a stop sign doing better than 40MPH. Sent the BII rolling a couple of times. My friends son walked away from that.
A few years back I bought an 88 that had been neglected as a "winter beater", lord knows how many times the odo has rolled over. It's still running and it goes on the snow and ice in 2wd like most 4wd's. In 4wd it's unstoppable. It's turning circle is ridiculous, You can back out of one space and into the space two over. The back seats are good and if you fold them down you have a nice sized flat floor.

My first car was an '86 Bronco II XLT 4x4. I have it to this day. I turned 16 in 1998 and drove that rig all Summer long while gas was 99 cents per gallon. It was great growing up then. I'm very blessed!!!
As a Mechanic most Bronco II were very abused.

I have 89 and it’s in great condition it’s got a rebuilt 2.9 liter v6 with 49000 miles on it I just put a new transmission and diff in power window and interior looks incredible for its year no rips tears or stains no weird smells plastics and stuff aren’t faded or cracked chrome pieces in the Exterior are all in really good condition although my paint is pretty faded I’m saving to have it completely repainted in a metallic black with dark red pin stripes

I grew up in these trucks and now live in LA, CA. I almost got one today for 8k.
I loved the 88 Bronco ll I had. I drove it for 15 years and it had 216k miles on it. It was the first year for fuel injection and was a 5 speed manual. The only thing I did to it was one water pump, two thermostats and a high pressure hose for power steering. It still had the original clutch when I sold it. Fun to drive.
My buddy had one, we went everywhere off road. Was a great little rig!
Oh you had the '86? I had one, did you have problems with the fuel injectors flooding the motor at start up in cold weather? I used to have to try to start it, then get out, pop the hood, unplug the fuel injector harness, get in, start the motor, get back out, plug the fuel injector harness in before the motor burned up all the fuel it had been flooded with, shut the hood, and get back in. Other then that it was a trouble free truck.
Thanks Nate, ticked me off what ol Tommy had to say about the B2. My advise to him is, talk about things you know about. I have two with 2 more coming. I get thumbs up everywhere I go. When done up right, they can hang with anything similar off road. I call my off road version the JRU, " Jeep Recovery Unit". In comparison to the first gen Bronco, they are longer more comfortable and just as capable and look better. Like anything off road, they get modified.The JRU has a rebuilt ported/ polished/ balanced 4.0L OHV, a built A4LD, that works great. Cooling is a big factor so I added two trans coolers, one engine oil cooler with a duel core rad. FORD 8.8 locked rear with disc brakes, Ranger duel piston from calipers, D35 TTB LS front axel, WARN 37790 D35 locking hubs. This was the B2 FORD should have built BUT the OEM B2 was a great little SUV. One in good condition sells for good money in the North East, people love them. Thanks again for an honest report on the underappreciated B2.
had a 84 then 86 Bronco II, towed them behind my motorhome, great rigs really like them. My last was a 1992 Bronco "Nite" package which I loved. Doubt the ranger based new one will peak my interest.
I drove a 1985 Bronco II for nearly a decade. As Nathan pointed out, its small size and maneuverability made it a formidable off-road vehicle despite its shortcomings. The 2.8 carbureted V6 had adequate power for the 55 mph highways in the 1980's, but was sorely lacking in low-speed torque for off-roading, especially with the 5 speed manual transmission. The later 2.9 EFI V6 with the 4-speed auto trans did much better. My Bronco II had the "off-road" package with a limited-slip rear dif that worked pretty well. I also added a winch bumper and Ramsey 6,000 lb. winch. I solved the Bronco II's "tippy" issues by installing slightly larger tires (215 75R15's replacing 205 75R15's), stiffer front springs and heavy-duty gas-filled shocks. It had only adequate ground clearance (about 7.5" with the larger tires), but made up for that with its maneuverability. I drove my B-II over some of the very roughest 4WD trails in the Rockies and it never let me down. I sold it with just under 100K on it, and it was still going strong with minimal problems. I would have kept it, but the little V6 just couldn't cut it in the 65 mph+ world of the 1990's.
I had an 84 with the limited slip "traction lock" front and rear diffs, I never could spin the tires, oversized tires and the 2.8 wouldn't allow a tire to squeal. But on black ice in 4wd, that thing would go uphill all day and not lose traction until you slammed on the breaks lol

Why put a arms? D35 ttb is simple bolt in and sas is easier than putting the torsion bar set up that will perform worst than the stock setup.
I daily my 89 B2 that has 143,000 on the clock. Thing runs great and hasn’t been too “tippy” for me. I absolutely love my B2 and will try and find a couple more. Thank you for the video! ✌️

My first car in high school was a baby blue 1986 2.9L Bronco II and it was awesome! It never got stuck, even with bald tires. I wish I hadn't sold it when I was heading to college. I bought it for $2900 and off-roaded the hell out of it. When I traded it in for a new truck they took it for $2700. I would love to get another one.

One of my life goals is to find a Bronco 2 and rebuild it. That little SUV is a KING off-road. It got me through a lot of tricky situations in the winter.
I was really hoping that the new lil Bronco would be more akin to the Ranger and the Big Bronco, akin to the F150, like the old ones were.
But the fact that they are based on the Ranger for the BIG one, and the escape for the small one... i dunno, i feel like they missed an opportunity.

I love my 88 Bronco II Eddie Bauer, 2.9 v6, all stock and 167k. Going strong. Fun weekend adventure truck and although it doesn’t have a ton a power, it’s still fun to drive.
I have 1983 Bronco II . I love it . It will travel in snow when other vehicles are stuck. It is very easy to parallel park. It is a V6 with enough get up and go!

My dad had a 1985 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer that he bought brand new from the dealer for about $15K-$16K. My dad put almost 280K miles before he gifted it to my uncle, which he put another 70k miles on it before he sold it to someone else. I was really surprised that the truck lasted that long.
I had a Bronco II. Really bad fuel milage noisy under powered 2.8 with solid lifters. It had the typical rubber band transmission that would rev to 3000 rpm before it would move. But I loved that thing. It was amazing for going rock crawling. Mine spent a lot of time off road.
Mine was silver on top black on the bottom. It was a lot of fun to go off road with. And very good in the deep snow.

We had a ‘86 two tone red and silver Bronco ii growing up. A nice looking truck. I remember my Mom always had to floor up before we went up hills. Unfortunately the transmission kept going out when I drove it in high school. We still have it. People stop all the time wanting to buy it till they see it has the automatic.
OMG I remember these Bronco's back in the day ! The Ranger based Bronco's sold pretty well at the time even though they only offered a 2 door short wheelbase but once the Ford Explorer came on the scene it became Ford's cash cow ! Be Safe ..

The bronco ii is very close in size to a 1st gen Broncos the only thing that the bronco ii is missing is the top don’t come off and the engine isn’t a v8 I think the bronco ii is a very good rig I own a bronco ii that i fixed up it isn’t a good for a daily driver but it is a great truck for trails and offroad adventures

Great Video and just subscribed!Have put over 200,000 on 2 of them.Had a 87 auto and still have a 90 2.9 5 Speed thats my daily driver for 10 years now.They are now collector worth in my opinion.NADA lists it at 4775.00 to 7600.00 for a 90 model.The people selling them for 2500.00 just dont know it unless they are selling a clunker.Stay away from the Auto A4LD they wont hold up.The 2.9 5 Speed is a good motor and transmission if maintained like you are suppose to.My 90 that I drive every day has 232,000 and gets 20 to 22 mpg.Got it at 150,000 and the family did not know what Oil their father used who had passed away.So I am using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and change it around 4000 miles.Oil is cheap motors are not! I have a 3 inch lift with 31 x10.50 BFG,s.In 4 wheel drive it pulls like a Bear and goes anywhere in my Virginia mountains and deep mud.On Interstate 22 all day long with a good tune.Get Comments all the time how good it looks.I would turn 5000 down all day long!What could I buy for that price to replace it.Not much and my 90 has good metal in it for sure.Anyway thats my experience with them and hope to paint my soon as its still Factory Paint on it.Also I give the full Synthetic Oil a lot of credit they are just a better oil from years ago.Thanks for the Video!
I picked up a 87 Bronco II last year pretty cheap. Just needed a new fuel tank and pump and some fuel lines replaced. It’s the Eddie Bauer edition with the 2.9\auto. Been a good little truck so far! The early 2.9 is not the greatest motor in the world however and should be treated with care.
In 85 my parents looked at the bronco 2 but decided to get the fox body LTD instead. Come winter they wished they did get the bronco as the LTD sucked in snow. Now my parents traded in a 78 ltd station wagon that was a beast in the snow. Now the bronco 2s are going for some big bucks. Have seen them in the 10,000s.
I believe this too. Such neat, good looking little trucks. Much prefer these over the big OJ style Broncos. My father owned a few when i was a kid. These and the fox body mustangs always stuck with me from my childhood.
My 1990 daily Bronco II has 250K miles and is not tippy at all, which I personally (and accidentally) tested. Didn't budge and I have taller than stock tires.

I had an '86 Bronco II in my early 20s. Bought it in 1990. I loved that little truck. It was my mirthmobile. I traded it in for a 1994 Ranger in 1995 after an old guy bashed in the drivers side door in a parking lot.
I remember getting the letter from a lawyer inviting me to join the class action lawsuit over the supposed instability of the Bronco 2. First time I've ever answered a letter from a lawyer, they said that the truck would tip over if cornered hard at 50 mph. I told them that if you are trying to corner a 4x4 like you would a sports car you do not deserve any money as you are an idiot. Couple months later I received the don't drive this truck like a sports car dumbass decal that the court forced ford to mail out to owners to stick on the drivers side visor.

I have had 5 Bronco Its over my life. I currently own 2 of them. The problem with them in our current world is a 75-85 mph speed limit that pushes a 2.9 to the max or worse, 2.8. If you get it to 75 mph the braking system will likely be the death of you and those around you when you loose control under heavy braking. They were NOT meant for today's highway speeds. Beyond that, I love the little things. The interior was far superior compared to the Small Wranglers in comfort for the back passengers and had more storage out back with the seats up or down. As far as safety goes, I never rolled mine and drove it pretty hard. Like any 4x4, you have to drive like your in a 4x4 meant to go off roading. I spent of lot of time driving my parents 1991 4.0L, stick, Wrangler and straight out of the box, it is a better choice for a modern daily driver. I have a EFI 5.0 SAS 1984 BII right now and have a bit of work to get it where I want it to be, and it is a fun rig to drive and will be a great vehicle to drive even on modern highways.

I rolled my 91 full size in high school back in 96. It broke my heart. I just put a vortec supercharger in it and I was testing it out. It seems that soft sand plus speed and sharp turns equal rollover. I pulled out the 351 and sold it to cover my hospital bill.

I was down to the Ford dealership yesterday, and it got me really exited! The new escape is very nice. The ecosport is actually the ok'est thing I've seen out of Ford in a long time. I see them matching chrysler in styling and gm in interior quality. Ford has also endured the growing pains to now have reliable turbo 4s and 6s. Turbos are about to dominate. Infact I see the 20's being the turbo decade. I haven't driven the new Ford's at all but if they have improved thier chassis tuning as much as they have thier style and interiors then I might now be a Ford man!

My Dad had one, I drove the mess out of it. His had a 2.9L with a 5-speed. Not super powerful, but didn't they offer a 4.0L like the Ranger? The 4.0 wasn't super terrible on power back then in my Ranger.
I think the 4.0 came along later. It was definitely in the first generation Explorer, which was also based on the Ranger.
The 4.0 was never put in the bronco ii from the factory but lots of people swap the 4.0 into the bronco ii since it’s pretty much a direct bolt in swap

They are much harder to roll or flip than what most people think and say. The point at which a bii will roll over.. is the same point a Wrangler would.. or a Suzuki samurai.. or a two door blazer.. it's mixing stupid and crazy that gets you roof side down. Choose one not both.
bronco 2 is what first generation bronco was but original bronco had gotten bigger more like f150. shame nowadays jeep wrangler only two door suv

The irony is the dimensions of bronco and bronco sport will mimic the bronco and bronco 2. The midsize ranger its based on is only slightly smaller than a full size truck of the mid 90s when the bronco was last produced and the bronco sport which is similar in size and based on an escape is dimensionally similar to the bronco 2

The Bronco II Us actually bringing really good money these days and I've already sold 2 in the past year and have a 89 Model Eddie Bauer Edition that I am the second owner of since 1994, it is in very nice overall condition and it needs the headliner replaced and a fuel pump... I will be selling it after I get the couple of odd and end things replaced on it and I'm located in the southern WV area

I had an early carbureted v6 Bronco 2,,, my thoughts solid Dependable rugged Welbilt easy to maintain indestructible some kind of limited slip rear differential and one hell of a good grab in front differential,,,,, after getting a new vehicle this became a farm truck pulling a full size pickup box trailer with anything from fencing , wood cutting, tool truck (( all will pill old full-size pickup box trailers with a dedicated roll for each)) then we're leaving on the Platte River in Nebraska in July we started running the river in jeeps and whatever you had ,,, that Bronco II could falow anywhere or modified Jeep been ,,,,, as we're getting record droughts in the river was dropping we were starting to run from town to town on the Platte River to mud bogs quick sand sand traps what EVER (( can I count the amount of times the stock Bronco II went into water holes with Water way over the hood and windshield never skipped a beat)) the Bronco II started becoming the send the Bronco 2v through first and the modified shiny Jeeps would follow after....... change the fluids once a year get the water and sand out .... did three Summers a Platte River running in the Bronco 2 ,,,,,,, then somebody wanted to buy the legendary Bronco 2 which I sold it and it became a daily driver for years after,,,,,,, solid. trucks no plastic no crap indestructible dependable,,,,, if it weren't for the fact and 6 foot 5 350 pounds I probably still have that tiny Bronco 2,,,,,,,, but I got tired of shoe horn in myself into that thing every time I drove........

I had to fight back vines of Blackberry's to recover it and the registration was last done in 09. I have no idea what to do with it but it's too nice and complete to just scrap.. Help! looking for inspiration.

I have an 88 bronco 2 with a 3 inch lift and lockers front and back. It is in good shape. But it is starting to rust out in some areas. My father has at least 6 B2 in his yard.

Fun fact (or not) The '84-'90 Bronco II had the highest death rate of any vehicle ever produced. As a big Ford fan and Ford owner the safety record of that vehicle is an embarrassment. They were too narrow and had too short of a wheelbase to be operated safely at higher speeds especially with a rookie driver behind the wheel. Whenever you look at the sun visor rollover warning label on your truck or SUV you can thank the Bronco II for that decal.
I've owned 2...1984 5speed and 1991 XLT. Loved both and hated to sell both of them.
I am old enough to remember these things when they were new; they were rushed into production to fight the jeep Cherokee. They were not well designed. And they rusted like crazy. For at least one year they put the horn button on the turn signal stalk. They were small even by the standards of the day. Tall and narrow much like the explorer that came after it, although worse

Been there, done that, won''t do it again. While this is only 1 anecdotal data point, I owned and drove a Bronco II for several years. It was a fancy Eddie Bauer model but even with the upgrades it was NOT one of the more memorable vehicles that I've owned. One can only hope that the new Bronco does not follow too closely in it's footsteps.
Ford was broke like the other auto makers then. They made it crude and cheap. The NEW Bronco will be 100% different.

Total death trap on road though. The two wheel emergency lane change, was a real problem..
The Bronco 2 was the Edsel of it’s day. The only redeeming quality of this truck was when you sold it for pennies on the dollar just to be done with it! They were expensive, build quality was non existent, it tipped over in a light breeze, rusted on the showroom floor and the engine would taunt the transmission into breaking first but both were in direct competition to leave you stranded at the most in opportune moment. Assuming the wire harness didn’t beat the mechanical components to the job first by spontaneously combusting into a rolling fireball that went up in flames faster than a pool of open gasoline . Yes, its quite clear I hate theses things along with the Ranger truck of the day. The Ranger sales suffered for many years after the re-design, the Bronco name was canned for the Explodere, which had it’s own set of problems but was a 10x better than the Bronco 2. I’m surprised there are any left for sale some 35 years after production. If you find one, just walk away, you’ll thank me.
Well said Scott. It's funny how people that never lived through the 70-80's when these types of cars were new, think that owning one now would be cool. They were shit then, and if they've managed to survive to now, are not worth waisting your time on.

I've owned a 89 B2 XLT since late1991 to the present, has close to 300000 on it ,had a transmission get rough and had a bearing replaced , a H2o pump and alternater plus a couple battery's. It's been a great vehicle, it's getting up dated, EFI 5L, TheT 5 transmission, Atlas transfer Case, and more! The B2 is much more driver friendly then the Old Broncos, l've owned both!

I was fortunate enough to get it lemon lawed and did receive full compensation for the truck, my time and out of pocket expense during my unhappy 9 months of ownership. If I recall right, I put more miles on the rentals I drove than the truck. I have since owned a few Ford products and have been quite happy with my Fox body Mustang, Marauder and 6.0 power-stoke of all things. No to too the II, assuming you can find one that isn’t a heap of melted steel and plastic.
All kidding aside , consider yourself blessed your Bronco hasn’t tried to incinerate you. If you have ever been in a vehicle fire, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
@@scottg391 A recall went out. back then for the Bronco II AND the Ranger for the fuel injector hose that supplies fuel for the injection rod,a clip was put on to keep it from sliding off,it only took two minutes to do, while at the dealership for this recall I had them take care of other things under warranty,I still have my Ranger and B II.
I have given up on the Broncos release. Been waiting since the announcement 4 years ago. My SUV is in need of replacement and I’m not waiting another 2 years. This is beyond ridiculous Ford. I’m going with the Ranger FX4. That’s trail worthy and I can haul my boat!
I was so excited about the Bronco release and Ford has delayed it so many times I’m sick of hearing about it and totally lost interest.

Steve D LMFAO the official announcement came 3 years ago (January 2017). And every since the leak (2015) the bronco was always a 2021 model year vehicle. Meaning production to start Q4 of 2020 and hitting dealers late 2020/ early 2021... Covid pushed that back to early 2021 nothing else. And that’s only 2-3 months later than the original date set In 2015!!!!!...... so I fail to see how your lack of intelligence or a pandemic is fords fault...

I like what Im seeing at ford these days. Infact if it weren't for the new Broncos and Trailblazer I'd be trading my Tacoma for a Ranger the new Escape. Now I need couple years to see how all these vehicles do. Try, see, fourm, etc.

Ford will be in a few more of jeep's segments and, they will bring something to the table, that Chrysler will not... Better reliability
Not with the turbo 4 cylinder, coming from experience the turbo is connected to the down pipe. Which is connected to the exhaust system, which the back pressure of exhaust spools turbo. Downside is carbon build up, locking turbos blades and internal veins. Naturally Aspirated, or Supercharged engines are the way to go
