I was there with my boyfriend. I was 19, he was 22. We hitched from Chester to the Festival, the weather was pretty good and I was wearing jeans, a bare midriff top and flip flops on my feet. I can't remember paying for a ticket but I suppose we did...
After the festival we had to hitch hike back to Chester as we had work the next day. We were dropped off in Bath at 4.00am in the morning and the rain was belting down. The road ahead of us was more or less unlit but there was a coffee machine at the side of the road. I would have forgotten all about those machines but it's stuck in my mind as a coffee was 6d and that's all the money we had left.
We eventually got back to Chester, dirty, wet and tired out...but we went straight into work...a design shop in Watergate Street called "Thingummys" whose name was later changed to "Indesign".
That first Glastonbury festival was amazing...those days were amazing. I'm 71 now but I haven't forgotten a thing about that day.
and you got to see T REX... I envy you ...apparently tickets were £1 each and they only attracted 1500 and Eavis lost £1500 ... and had to pay T REX £100 a month for 5 months lol... but he made the money back the following year !! I was only 14 at the time and my first record I ever bought was RIDE A WHITE SWAN. .. I fell head over heels for Marc... I wish I was there !! ❤
A great story and memory's thanks for sharing-- South Suffolk UK 🇬🇧
