Nestled in the north of West Bengal, India are the towns of Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is also known as the Toy Train, runs between these two towns. Running on the narrow gauge, it was built between 1879 and 1881. The distance it travels is around 78 kilometers. The most interesting part is that it travels over the elevated terrain - from about 100 meters when it begins in New Jalpaiguri to 2,200 meters when it reaches Darjeeling.
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, and the amazing thing is that it is the second railway to have such an honor. The train covers a distance of 78 kilometers between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri. The thirteen stations it stops at are New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Town, Siliguri Junction, Sukna, Rongtong, Tindharia, Gayabari, Mahanadi, Kurseong, Tung, Sonada, Ghum and Darjeeling.
One of the stations where the Toy Train stops, the one just before Darjeeling, is Ghum. Ghum happens to be the highest railway station in India.
Apart from steam-charter trains, you also have the option of taking the joyride trains from Darjeeling to Ghum and back. Yet another trip the railways makes is the Jungle Safari special from Siliguri Junction to Gayabari and back. So, if you are heading towards Darjeeling, book your tickets because this is one journey you must take.

Broad guage kaa train bara hota re size mein, obvious baat he, Darjeeling Rail kaa coach chota hai, usko bara to nahi kar sakte naa apun ke engineer log. Baki usko beauty hai usko dekh tha bidu, kahe ko itna sad hota hai har baat par.

It's refresh my memories watching my place from New Zealand .but I miss my Buba my grandfather who was retired from RAILWAY.Siliguri to Darjeeling via Kurseong was his work place.I wish I could go my hometown now .

I kept close eyes on the video and also noted that there was a Alto K10 parked by a Teacher which was on the edge of the track on 13:40 but the way that person parked his vehicle shows the judgement between the natives and train. Kudos.

One interesting information I am sharing with you that the name of the station GHUM was given by Rabindranath Tagore seeing the calmness and nature of that place he felt that as if the place remains in sleeping mode all the time. THE NAME GHUM THUS SUITES WITH THE CHARECTERISTICS OF THAT LITTLE ROMANTIC PLACE.
What a bolony, ghum actually means to turn around from here you can reach multiple destination. Siliguri darjeeling kalimping sikkim bijanbari mirik.. And i live in Ghoom

Sukna is the station, you can watch in the song Kasto Maaza from movie Parineeti, not completely but partially at the end of song.
I had spent my beautiful 4 years at this place, almost everyday watched this toy train passing through our clg and hostel 😊.
In winters when the tourist season is there the diesel engine changes to steam engine which adds cherry on cake.
