Really appreciate you doing this video! I’ve been going back and forth between the 44” and 56” and your reasoning and the way you organized your box has fully convinced me that the 44” is going to suit my needs much better. Thanks!
nice setup I like it I am in the Marcotte for the 44 inch for my garage I do have a lot of room in my garage the 44, will be just right for me , thanks you have a nice setup.🤠👍👍
I'm retired and decided I wanted to try machining. Bought a Jet 9X49 mill, used. Couldn't find a used lathe that I was sure didn't have problems (I live in the middle of nowhere.) So bought a new PM1440HD in 2016. Soon became apparent that an organized storage of all the tooling, etc. was needed. Sears was going down the shit chute and clearing stuff. I made an offer on a 44" base and upper roll around. Much to my surprise they took it. I put most of my mechanics tools in that. Last year I bought a US General (H Frt) 44" roll around. Seems like a nice box. Put a 3/4 melamine top on it for all my quick grab items by the mill. Most of the drawers are very shallow, good for some things but not others. Yesterday I bought a 56" US General (H Frt) when they had it on $70 off. The tool cabinets have gone up quite a lot in price. There are more drawers that are a bit deeper so I'll be able to move some things there that are now on shelves 2 or 3 deep. Today's project is rearranging my space to fit it in. Too much stuff! But a guy can never have too many tools. Do you have heat or AC in the container?
I've had a HF US General 44" combo box for over 10 years. Never had any problems with it. I'm a 50+ years master level factory certified auto/truck tech.
Hey - thank you for taking the time and effort to product this excellent, easy to follow, video tutorial on the merits of the US General 44 inch Tool Box. I especially appreciate your explanations for your arrangement of your tools within the tool box, and modifications to allow the vice.
I just got the 44 inch part for now, going to get the side addition, and the chest for it when my paychecks allow me to. For owning a small racecar team, this is a miracle box! Thanks for the awesome review, and gives me confidence knowing I made the right purchase!
I have the exact same box. I'm a woodworker, but I keep other tools in it too. I bought it because it was less money than the competition, it is built strong, and it has a lot of drawers.
Love your layout. I’m taking your idea with the side drawer. And the peg wall; Great idea. 44 with the side cabinet is perfect. Love your video. Thanks.
Cool video, thanks for sharing! I mounted my vise to a piece plate steel also but but the heads of the bolts under plate steel and the threaded shank of the bolt and nut on top. I then used a horse matt as a shim to everything level. I like your idea better.
yes sir they do may not be the best tool but if you have a local harbor freight worth looking at them even craftsman is made in china now and with sears being few and far between anymore for a replacement harbor freight isn't looking to bad . Thank for the view and comment
Well, you made the right choice by getting the 44inche bud, it suits your needs alot better, and hanging your drills will make them more handy & keep working surfaces available & uncluttered. Very well done & thought out. Peace!!
I am auto technician been doing it for about 9 years, I always usually start with tools from harbor freight my first tool cart and tools were all from harbor freight. Harbor freight is close and there are plenty near me but I find it annoying to go and drive to the store and warranty swap tools. What I found especially if you’re working the trade harbor freight or Pittsburgh tool are good to start but what I did is as they break or I have money I’ll slowly replace the cheap tools with tool truck tools. If you plan on working in the trade yes they’re more expensive by a lot, but the tool truck comes to you and quality tools are time savers which means move efficiency and in turn is more money especially if you’re flat rate.
I recently bought the 44" box but I am out growing it very quickly. The only thing I wish it had that, the 72" box has is the top drawer, is that the Pittsburgh socket trays fit width ways and holds way more sockets.
I think those Kennedy boxes used to be my Dads. There was a label on the front of the box with R.A.S wasn’t there. And most of the tools were engraved as well with it.
i am not very organized or at least haven't been up until now and wanted to start getting that way I'm trying my best to be better at it . Tools are an investment keeping them clean and organized is just part of taking care of your things i hope to do better in my later years. Thanks for the view and comment.
Cool collection. Looks like you do a lot of machinist work. That’s called a vernier caliper. I took a machine tool class in college and had to learn how to read one. You pick the lines that are closest to lining up and that’s your thousandths umber.
Thank you for watching I was debating the same thing until I looked at the boxes. I made this video to try and help out some one on the fence about which one to get glad you found it useful have a great day.
I was dead set on picking up the 72” box. Once I got there and looked at it, I decided on the 56” bottom box with the matching top box and two side boxes for the same reasons. The 72” drawers were bigger than I wanted or needed. I wanted more smaller drawers. I’m sure it will be the last box I ever buy.
Yes sir i didn't think that mean people really thought about buying a smaller box than they needed and add to it, everyone seems to be hung up on the 56" or the 72" box when a 44 with two side boxes will make a 72" box with a lot more usability thanks for the view and comment
I keep looking at the side cab and thinking that it would make an excellent stand for a drill press. I'm actually seriously considering doing that and adding some casters.
Excellent organization. I am saving this video because I just got the same main box and I want the side box as well. I also want the side locker and top. I have heard nothing but good things about the 44's. The others (56 72) not so much.
@@rodneywager2142 I'm on the fence about that. I have had to move a box and the drawers just fly open when I make a turn. I'd prefer a slide lock or a soft close. The one fault with the box is you have to make sure every drawer is positively closed. Before you move it and before you lock it to go home from work. I've had to relock this box because the visual from locked to unlocked could be 1/8" Other than that it's a great box for home use. not so much for keeping people out of it at work. Multiple times I can't trust it. I have to lock and check every drawer.
Looking at retiring my Snap-On 5319 Heritage Rollcab. It was great when I started out, but its full (no junk or 5:00 drawers) and its going to cost $3000 to put a matching topbox on it (18" deep boxes are hard to shop for!) So I'm looking at Harbor Freight 44x22 with top box, side drawer cab and locker on either side. It's going to be around $1300 to do. I'm a diesel mechanic, so the 53 or 72" box seems to make more sense, but I cannot get used to the fact that I'd have to open the drawer from the right. The 44" doesn't have that pesky lock on the drawer. I need a bigger box with the larger drawers. The Cornwell guy wasn't too happy (and Snappy is probably pissed) but I'll be filling it right back up off their trucks. I don't have $10,000 to buy a G*dd**med toolbox!
Pat Callahan man I would really suggest the 72” box if I was a diesel mechanic you will be very disappointed in the build quality of the 44 or 56 if your rolling them around all day thanks for the view and comment
I think you got a good setup. No need to waste money on those "name brands" like Snap and Milwaukee, etc. I got rid of a lot of my air tools and my 65-gallon Craftsman compressor. Not useful anymore; and replacing them with DeWalt cordless electric power tools. I do like the Milwaukee 1 inch impact driver though. That thing is a beast, but it is overkill for home use. I might get the 56" US General too box. I like big surface area for working. Great setup.
I run a lube shop, I could fill the 72" by itself, but I prefer most of the drawers in my 44", because of compartmentalize organization! But I do wish I had a bigger socket drawer. I wouldn't mind the 72" socket drawer. I have 44, plus top chest, but I am considering locker for the stuff much like my shop vac, a tire inflator, stuff I don't have room for now.
Exactly it’s so nice having all sockets in one drawer and all wrenches in one drawer and I can’t do that with the 44. Also surprisingly you can fit just as much stuff in the 5 drawer cart as the 44inch

You pulled out what you called a starter bit that looked like an Aircraft counter sink the pilot in the center is unthreaded and the threads on the back are for a threaded counter sink depth control device.
Nice to see a regular guy who doesn't have 50,000 dollars worth of snap on in the box like most of us can't afford. Love the blue man

Thank you for watching I was debating the same thing until I looked at the boxes. I made this video to try and help out some one on the fence about which one to get glad you found it useful have a great day.
Buy the 56. I fucking hate my 44, mostly because the drawers don't lock. They like to open on their own if the box is not perfectly level.
There are horizontal locking pins behind the drawers. You probably need to resert the pins to lock
Very nice tour. Do you have a video specifically for your milk? I was curious if your thoughts on it as well as a manufacturer. Thanks.
I'm considering one of these. Where did you find the 3/16 plate for the top? Thanks for the review, it was very helpful.
Nice little tour in a nice little shop. Did the container shop on the lease hunting ranch in Texas. Subbed!
Nicely Organized .
I'm climbing over everything in my shipping containers and it gets old .
That was the plan to try and have everything where I needed it
Like the set up . Would upgrade the drawer rails personally. Drawers would drive me insane having to push them shut

Local metal shop just gave them the measurements they cut it to fit
could have just welded studs for the vise! nice tool chest i got same in red but older style not as series 2
Still have my 44 red one that came in the rough finish since 08, overweight with 1" drive sockets and huge wrenches. I work on Construction equipment diesel trucks.
BUT HOLD ON for the plate you put on the top, the tool box have 4 holes already open on the corners>
Did you know if I get the 26" draw can I add on the side draw you have attached to your 44" toolchest?
i am not sure if they will fit or not i would have to go and measure the 26" box lip on the side and the height but the side box just sets on the raised lip on the side of the box it does have bolts for the bottom if you don't plan to move it much then the bolts are required. Thanks for the view and comment.
It probably fits on the 26”, but because the side drawers just hang on the main box and don’t have their own casters, it would probably make it unstable and possibly tip over if you don’t have the load balanced properly.
