Lies of P was absolutely incredible best soulslike to date in my opinion and my favorite game of 23 even with all the bangers of the year. All souls games are immaculate but nothing tops LoP or bloodborne yet. Very proud of what this smaller studio was able to accomplish and the game deserved more praise and recognition but was shadowed by baulders gate 3 unfortunately
@@thealph1191 "Retain white health when hit and regain lost health by doing damage immediately after" mechanic is called rally in Bloodborne, please excuse my habit of words. In Lies of P there are multiple P-organ skill assisting on block retain rate and regain rate, and some really good weapons with high damage cut rate on block. While rage attack block is NG+2 limited, there's rage dodge accessory at about the start of end game. Quite viable in general.
You can also just dodge to your heart's content by having a light equipment load, running sometimes and just circling around the enemy other times. There's just one boss where that doesn't work and you're pretty much forced to parry and it's near endgame.
Bro people don’t really appreciate the dialogue you script and put together between yourself! I appreciate it and pray you and your platform get more recognition!
I'm glad you mentioned the parry. I seen a few head scratching YT reviews saying they force you to use the parry at the end and it's like no you're supposed to use it the entire time. Not the devs fault you ignored a core mechanic and got hard punished for it
It's more of a mix. The game teaches you to use both dodge and parry. I beat the swamp monster completely by just dodging. Laxasia's 1st phase is way easier when you dodge and her 2nd phase is way easier when you parry.
Because the parry isnt reinforced earlier. Like with Seikro. There's basically no boss in that game that you can beat with pure dodging. You have to learn to parry or you don't progress, period. Lies of P allows you to get away with not utilizing one of its core mechanics then beats you over the head with it wayyyyyyyy later. Pure and Simple. There should be a boss that you can only beat by parrying and one that you can only beat by dodging very early in the game to reinforce those ideas. And I truly mean only beatable by using that one tactic. No half measures. Then you can be intoduced to the bosses that mix and match those options. Lies of P is still a good game but the criticism is still valid
@@King_Ryuga?? You can literally dodge only in lies of p you only have to worry about the red attacks but just run away and you will be fine. The only super hard boss in the game for me was laxasia and imo thats the only boss you NEED to parry in. The rest can be dodge only

Honestly, this was/is the first souls like game that I legit want to purchase. I’m not good at those types of games and would rather sit back & awe at the masters goin to work. However, when I picked up Lies Of P of off Game Pass, something about it got me almost hooked! I actually made it to that first mini boss on my second or third run. Surprisingly I beat him on my 3rd try. Sadly when it comes to the actual first boss I’ve yet to beat him almost a month later🤣! I’ve managed to get dam close a few times but getting those parry’s down r a pain in the ass. That and I guess I’m just a lil bicth cuz seeing dude charge at me the way he does sometimes makes me panic a bit(especially when low on heals)😂🤣. Even so, I’m still legit considering buying a copy of this game🤷♂️.
Just so everyone is aware, Lies of P has a very interesting way in which the parry works, where you have to hold guard for half a second longer to get full parry frames and there's a slight delay when parrying from neutral. When you do this, your weapon stays in a guard position, and the slight delay isn't there anymore, which would've been fine, if it weren't for how much smaller parry windows are than Sekiro for example, and even in Sekiro, attacks with small parry windows has a very obvious rhythm, almost like the previous parry is part of the audio cue for the next parry. I don't mind the lack of an obvious rhythm, but the windows need to be loosened a bit, to say nothing of how the nuances of the parry are never communicated in game. I only suspected something similar at the last boss, and found a YTuber named HardResetO discussing this in his LoP video. Also, the camera FoV is atrocious for non-humanoid fights, as many have already said. Still, Lies of P enemy and especially, boss design is fantastic IMO with only a couple of misses. And it's also an incredible soulslike in general, very similar to Fromsoftware quality as many people have already stated. These technical issues are a major flaw in the game (and that's coming from the guy who's personal GotY was LoP), however here's hoping the DLC addresses some of these issues and give us more awesomeness in the form of new areas, lore and bosses, and maybe even a boss gauntlet with secret bosses? Guess we'll have to wait a little longer to know what's in store. Edit: Just so we're clear, I'm not advocating for an easy mode (and frankly, I don't think it's too tight save for 1 boss attack), but an item to give more forgiving parry timings as a playstyle option for new players, or have it be the default for newcomers, and have something like bell demon for the added difficulty or more ideally, something kuro's charm which gives you an easier window if you choose to collect it, but if you don't or destroy it later, it brings things back to speed would be a good way to expand on the variety. Like Keef said: "The challenge, is based off the individual and their play style. So it could be harder for you, it could be easier" And more playstyle options is never a bad thing.
100% the parry timing in this game is off and the window is too damn short. In most games you parry just before the hit lands, but in this one you need to parry before they even attack you. It makes no damn sense to me. I practiced on the sparring puppet for a while trying to figure it out. It wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that you get damaged while blocking so you're forced to parry. After getting my ass handed to me by the first boss I decided to go for an agility build so I can just hit and run to avoid the boss instead of needing to parry constantly.
The parrying in this game is fine. Sekiro's parrying got repetitive and uninteresting when you figured out how it's done halfway through the game. I would hate for Neowiz to make what I think is an unnecessary adjustment just because some people just want Sekiro all over again. Besides, every attack in this game can be either dodged, ran from, or strafed, except for one move the made it mandatory to parry, and that's from an endgame boss. And even then, there are weapon skills which makes the timing easier or allows you to endure a hit at the cost of a tiny bit of health.
@@Manganization While I disagree that Sekiro's parrying is repetitive and uninteresting, it definitely is easier than in LoP, where parrying isn't supposed to be your primary defensive option. That said, like I said in my original comment, I think the parry window is fine, even though I see where people are coming from, since the mechanic isn't really explained that well. But the truth is people who have a problem with the parry are far more vocal than those who aren't and Neowiz aren't faultless either as they don't really explain the nuances of the parry, and even punishes players trying to learn said nuances by spamming delay attacks in weird patterns as early as the second boss up until the first major difficulty spike. Not a huge number of bosses, but when it comes to learning core mechanics, that's a big issue IMO. Still a great game with bosses comparable to Fromsoft, though it never reaches their highest highs while avoiding their lowest lows.
@@zomorion9183 what more is there to explain? It's a perfect guard. It doesn't really work the way a parry would and there are numerous ways to avoid parrying if you just can't do it. There is a weird and wrong impression that parrying is necessary in this game and that dodging is bad, when it's really good. The optimal way to play without having to spend too much time on a boss is to parry what you're confident parrying and roll, run, and strafe everything else, and keep your weight class under "heavy", while swapping out your defensive parts to suit the boss. If you're stubborn (like me) and wanna parry everything anyway but want some leeway, equip a hilt that gives you Endure (which is reusable within a generous window for only one bar), or Advance Guard/Counter. I played the entire game without dodging. You can also be layman and stock up on throwables and never have to worry about movesets ever. The game is sufficiently generous when it comes to the multitude of ways you can trivialise having to learn a boss' pattern like every other decent game ever, and no attack is unavoidable/unreactable.
@@Manganization I parried for most of my first playthrough, and still couldn't figure out the inconsistency in the parry, until the literal final boss. So something should've been done to communicate that better, or I'm just stupid, but the plethora of people getting stumped by how the parry works makes me think otherwise. So, the fact that you need hold down the parry button and not tap it should be a bit clearer, and should've been trained. Sekiro has so many bosses and especially mini-bosses that hone in on your understanding of the fundamentals right from the get go. Bosses testing the limits of your dodge (Chained Ogre and Blazing Bull). Bosses testing the limits of your ability to parry (like Corrupted Monk or Headless, where spamming block isn't useful, or bosses like the Ashina Elite and Flayer Centipede that teach how to deal with flurry attacks). Bosses testing the limits of your ability of Mikiri counter (Shinobi Hunter and Seven Ashina Spears) etc. Based on your preferences, I have a feeling putting them all early on or in such a way that players have access to them early on would make it feel repetitive, at least to you. My point isn't that they should all be placed right at the start, but rather, bosses strictly testing the limits of a single core mechanic should exist in LoP. As that helps more people appreciate the nuances of that mechanic and allows you to use that more creatively. LoP has the room for that creativity much more so than Sekiro. But it doesn't really demand that you pursue that creativity which prevents a lot of people from seeing the intricacies of the combat, and instead just passing it off as "another soulslike", which couldn't be further from what LoP really is. That's why I suggest the new playstyle option as it's kinda difficult to add bosses in the game without replacing existing ones or adding in new areas. And barring a couple, no mini-boss forced me to strictly focus on one mechanic. And even those mini-bosses don't really gate progression, i.e. you can stagger spam them or simply run past them, which isn't teaching the player a skill that's useful in a boss fight. At least not for all cases. Unlike Chained Ogre, Blazing Bull, Corrupted Monk, Shinobi Hunter, or Lone Shadow Swordsman. I'd argue Sekiro didn't do this well enough and should've made something like Seven Spears gate progression. And LoP... while it's good that there's freedom, being able to skip almost every mini boss is a bit much. Edit: Having a more elaborate training tool like Hanbei also helps Sekiro, since you still have much better training tools independent of bosses, and LoP doesn't even have that. And this training of skills shouldn't be restricted to parries, either. Knowing how the game expects you to dodge attacks can alleviate a great deal of frustration, though LoP has Victor for that ig.
Pretty much. Like, Demon’s Souls main difficulty is the checkpoints. I laughed at the mention of Rennala cause she was like the easiest of the shardbearers. And Dark Souls 3 felt better to move and attack in general compared to the first 2 Dark Souls.
Honestly surprised a lot of people have trouble with that first mini boss (granted I was close to death when I beat him, but I didnt take dozens of tries). God this game did give me an ass beating all the way to the credits though.
Yes, that first elite in the station was fairly easy, in my opinion. I had no issues or deaths until the first boss, and then he beat me like a red-headed stepchild. I actually restarted the game to switch to an agility build instead since I don't need to parry as much if I just dash in, stab the boss, then run away. You can't dodge the frenzy attacks, but you can run far enough away that they don't hit you, so that works I guess.

"I just realized my controller is defective." This is me every time I play a Souls game.😂
Had my dying with the heartfelt speech that was uplifting and he didnt hear any of it with more boss names. Thats crazy 😂
When he started naming Elden ring bosses I lost it
Lies of P was absolutely incredible best soulslike to date in my opinion and my favorite game of 23 even with all the bangers of the year. All souls games are immaculate but nothing tops LoP or bloodborne yet. Very proud of what this smaller studio was able to accomplish and the game deserved more praise and recognition but was shadowed by baulders gate 3 unfortunately
“That’s not a boss, it’s an elite enemy” I know damn well I said something like that back in my high school days lol
Lies of P brought back my nightmares fighting the DLC bosses of DS1 and DS2 Scholars of the 1st Sins years ago. Lies of P is my personal GOTY!
my guy gone through stages of grief, without going acceptance.
Keef: “I just realized my controller is defective”
Keef’s Controller: _SUFFERING FROM DRIFTCON_
Lord of P turned out really good loved the story and easy to follow and that police boss is crazy no fog or nothing😂😂
What's funny is that bosses actually do have a fog gate on them😂
Interestingly, with a good build you actually CAN just block and rally back in this game.
yeah, and you can regen lost health by doing damage after a block. so by playing slightly more aggressive it can still be a viable strategy.
Even tho I’ve only played one souls like game I’ve heard a lot of this game, looks real cool and fun. Great skecth as always Keef XD
WHY YOU CALLING OUT HOKAGE LIKE THAT
Because the parry isnt reinforced earlier.
The rest can be dodge only
@@Walrus5 ironically enough i only HAD to parry was nameless puppet 2
Then you learn how strong throwables are and learn to chuck them at bosses once they low health lol.
Heck yeah especially with high advance.
Bro I cannot believe I've only just found you, this is top tier comedy and I'm here to stay!
Him making content about one of the best game of 2023? Goated.
Also dodging in this game is pretty great if you upgrade it.
The Persona 5 music hitting in the end
Every time I see Keef made a new video, I drop everything to see it. Keep up the amazing work!
P.S. You really need to get good at the game, though.
Dude ain't even gotten to saving Geppetto, yet. That Donkey gonna turn your skills to Ass when he see you.
It's crazy that before he said this at 1:45 - 2:00 I said the same thing.
"I'm like thats not the boss is it"😂
Great video and listing the bosses you beat from souls games was too jokes loool. Keep it up 👍😃
Damn, I thought I was the only one that struggled with the first one, what hurts more is that if you die, you go back to the start and do all of it again just to get killed again.
True gamer comedy brotha 😂 keep it up man
Best game of 2023 and up there with FromSoft’s games
Notice how he didn’t say malenia blade of miquella, even the mighty keef has his limits
This perfectly describes my first time playing the demo.
It’s pretty good, excited for the sequel:)
keef we here for you buddy
Man I’m soooo glad you’re giving light to lies of p i felt like it was a great souls type game and people don’t give it enough credit!
As a soulsborne vet I felt the pain lmao!
Your expressions of people whose reality is collapsing around them is top notch. Always a treat lol.
😂😂😂😂 Now I didn't come into this game cocky, but that cop puppet for sho gave me the bidness. So did the Parade and Officer bosses. Great game. Would've been my person game of the year had I not played Baldur's Gate 3.
When you get the the cathedral and meet the elite variant of the enemies there, they ragdolled my puppet ass like it was personal.
Broooo noooo 😭😂 I instantly started dying when you started naming off Elden Ring bosses you’ve beat. He was like but I’m worthy of this!!!! Instant sub from me man great content 💯🫡
I loved Lies of P!! My first souls game that I was happy to sit through in one sitting!!! The story, gameplay, and atmosphere was amazing!!!
My first souls-like game and Just recently got all the achievements! Now patiently waiting for the DLC to drop 😊
The way that cop beat me, I just know he knew I was black 😭
To Me. Lies of P is like Dark Souls with a Steampunk theme to it.
To everyone it is that
The hard part of Lies of P is seeing Timothée Chalamet the entire game. I need a custom Pinocchio.
😂👍🏾💪🏾
The moment I didn't hear the words Bloodborne or Melania I knew other Keef was gonna have a slightly harder time.😂
Arguably my game of the year for 2023 alongside Armored Core 6 and Baldur's Gate 3! Hope it gets more love, it deserves all the attention!
Keef can we have a return to the original intro of you running down the stairs?
That last one got me! Thought you had the name wrong for a second, but then I caught on with what you were saying 😂
0:12 I’m not really into souls games, but from what I’ve heard, these three are considered the more easy ones, right?
Pretty much. Like, Demon’s Souls main difficulty is the checkpoints. I laughed at the mention of Rennala cause she was like the easiest of the shardbearers. And Dark Souls 3 felt better to move and attack in general compared to the first 2 Dark Souls.
Its amazing how lies of P is this first studios soulslike, I cant wait to see what they do next
This game is probably one of the only soulslikes that can feel like if it was an actual souls game.
(No wonder i platinum trophy it 😅)
Your videos bring me a lot of joy, thanks for making them
Honestly surprised a lot of people have trouble with that first mini boss (granted I was close to death when I beat him, but I didnt take dozens of tries).
Malenia. Blade of Miquella. And she has never known defeat
I love how the first boss isnt even a boss, just some elite enemy 😂
I was surprised when i managed to kill the mf 1st try, but then again i heard the parrying window is shorter than sekiro so....
"Bro please don't do this" 😂😂😂😂
YASSSSSSS thanks for covering this underrated masterpiece
😂😂😂 My favorite TH-camr never disappoints
Keef you are a god damn comedy genius. Much love!
The scrapped watchmen was the main one i was stuck on in the demo but finally killed him after 20 tries lol 😂😂🤣
Salve Knight Gael.
That line killed me, bro.
That first sub boss whooped on me a whole lot! It's cool once you figure out the moves - I've played through the entire game 3 times.....
When he didn't say Sekiro in his list I knew it was over.
Keef making a Lies Of P video, 2024 is gonna be good
This was EXACTLY...my lies of p demo experience 😂😂😂
Some say to this day, keef is still naming off elden ring bosses
I love the set-up that Bloodborne and Sekiro, two of the games that is more parry focused is not played. It's the details that I appreciate 🙂
YOOOOOOO THANK YOU FOR PLAYING everyone acting like this game does exist but it was my favourite game of 2023
Haha you’re a genius! I love the facial expressions haha you got me crackin up
Every new journey starts from the beginning and every time you’ll have to learn and grow
Get ready for Black Myth Wukong 😈
This game is amazing and truly one of the best soulslike games I think I have every played. This def was a hidden gem of last year fr fr 🔥
And keef playing it :D I know you struggling! lmao good video yo
I learned what Lies of P actually means: Lies of Police Brutality
Crazy when he said DS 3, Demon Souls, and Elden Ring, I was like “none of those games force u to rely on a parry, you should’ve played Bloodborne and Sekiro, now suffer”😂
If a brand new controller would’ve been pulled out…Golden!
I lost it at the controller part.
The puppet king’s second phase is where I started to struggle for real 🤣
The actual boss of this area has one of the best movesets to parry in any game I’ve ever played
