I’m 49, have had severe migraines since my early teens as far as I can remember. My entire life I felt clueless why in the world I experienced so frequent and severe migraines , several times every week on occasions. Around 3 years ago, I started on a keto diet aiming to lose weight, after learning about it on TH-cam. “MAGICALLY” my headaches disappeared entirely. Now I know that my migraines are 100% triggered by any intake of sugar or alcohol, and to a lesser severity by the intake of high-glycemic food such as potato, pasta or white rice. Finding out about this after suffering through decades is sad, but nevertheless felt like reborn to a way better life.
Please keep informing people about the link between high insulin and migraines! I have had migraines my entire life (even as a kid) and the only time i DON'T have them is when i eat extremely low carb!
Migraines are debilitating, I started a low-carb diet and my migraines are not as frequent. I needed to head to Emergency during my migraine every two weeks (now I can manage it well, just keeping my diet in check).
Yep - low carb / low sugar diet solved the problem for me. Used to get regular debilitating migraines that would take me out for days. I eliminated white rice, bread, pasta and most other sugars completely, and the migraines disappeared. I eat only protein and veggies now. Feel great and energy level is much higher than it was previously.
I get Tension headaches and my neurologist says I have migraine issues. I’ve had one migraine headache plus it was a bilateral migraine. I thought my brains were going to squirt out of the top of head. Now since I went keto my headache are better . I used to have a headache for 2 to 3 days thank god they were tension type! Now I will get a headache but I can get rid of faster.👍
Been diabetic since i was 17... 41 now... started getting random migranes roughly 10 yrs ago... never been able to find a rhyme or reason untill recently since i have triggered migranes shortly after taking insulin. This has been some good info for me. Thanks.
Chronic migraine sufferer here. I’ve found that I have reactive hypoglycemia. Being on a low carb diet as helped a bit, but I do still get migraines frequently.
About 30 years ago I had industrial IV doses of antibiotics for about six weeks after gyn surgery. I was an ER nurse and according to infectious disease docs my lungs were colonized by bacteria from my exposure at work. Normally I could defend against infection and was very healthy. After that post-op pneumonia, I had various health issues including many debilitating migraines. By then, I was a physician assistant and the headaches plagued my ability to work. Hard to do when one can’t think straight. I retired early. Recently, I went on vacation and splurged on ‘regular’ food. Shortly after I had my first ocular migraine after having no migraines for over a decade. Can you discuss the scientific role of the gut in these metabolic diseases? (Please forgive me if you already have, I’ll find it eventually as I work my way through these excellent lecture.)
Yes as HBA1C is a marker of average blood sugar not insulin levels. Your blood sugar could be within normal parameters only if in the presence of excess insulin which is being overly exceeded due to underlying resistance. Also HBA1C can also be thrown if you have anaemia or blood disorders that impact the life cycle of the red blood cell
@@littlevoice_11 thanks. My fasting insulin at the time was 3.3 ? I'm having the dawn phenomenon thing going on which bothers me. I think I'm going to get a cgm.
Chronic intractable here, started keto 2 and a half months ago, the pain got significantly less severe! Still was having pain 24/7, went to carnivore 2 weeks ago and got much much better, but I am not able to handle the constipation, that got really really bad, I really would like this to work but gotta go back to standard diet for now because my colon is giving me excruciating pain...
What about teens or young slender people having migraines? Are they already experiencing IR? I’m thinking of a young person with migraines that i remember from 35 years ago.
There are a lot of TOFI(thin on the outside, fat on the inside) people that are in a bad metabolic state with high insulin while being thin. That's why everyone should have their fasting insulin or c-peptide tested to make sure of their metabolic state.
Wow! It makes total sense as to the cause being brain blood flow and pressure due to the over production of nitric oxide . Same thing must be happening in the condition of Blasters Headache when people are over exposed to nitroglycerin.
Isn't breathing through to nose giving us nitric oxide? I always breathe through the nose since watching a video on the subject, except when I want to blow my nose x
The first migraine headache I had lasted two weeks and in my opinion was caused by eating way too many soft serve ice cream cones over 3 of the 4 day Easter break. The last migraine headache I had was caused by taking way too long and doing way too many mathematical calculations getting my 'credit' book balanced back when I was a Lunch Van Driver. I also got sick with Vertigo 11 months ago but have been on no sugar, low carb, high fat, no processed food, mainly certified organic food ever since x

Perfect timing, about to do some chores... Can listen while I work!
I used to have 15-20 migraines a month. Adopting a low carb lifestyle eliminated them almost completely.

🤔 Thinking in the throes of headache cortisol might be elevated causing rise in insulin? Just as any incidence of disease glucose goes wonky?
Wow that seems plausible. Is the elevation chronic or just during the headache?

Can someone with a a1c of 5.0 (from as high as 13.3) still have insulin resistance?
Thanks for all the great video's/ information.

I am just now looking into how high insulin could be the culpret.

You aren't eating enough fat! Go back to carnivore. Eat fattier meat and/or add more butter/tallow.
Will make a difference very quickly

Isn’t insulin resistance common in growth phases?
@@lynnwilliams5432 Exactly. Pregnancy and puberty are both physiological states of insulineresistance.

Can you be skinny/normal and be insulin resistant is a good question..!?
Can you be skinny/normal and still be insulin resistant!?
Yes!! Absolutely.
Why not list all Drs in this discussion I see only one Dr listed this isn’t right
