I’ve always gotten a sense of calm, sorrowful reminiscing of ones past. “I ran Back to that hollow again, the moon was just a sliver back then” to me this makes me think of my childhood home and how adulthood seemed like a sliver that never got closer. Now an adult I still don’t know when the realization truly hit me that I was on my own and out in the world.
My favorite song! He’s begging to get back to a simpler life. We’ve come so far but have lost so much. Simple, pure and authentic…what we all hunger for
Lovely tune, lovely production. Having seen the Colorado Symphony many times, I was disappointed to not see the symphony. Red Rocks is such an incredible venue, it would have been nice if it was there. Always love to hear your thoughts. (hard to imagine anyone being offended by your comments) The horse metaphor is beautiful as is the banjo with the orchestra. And yes, this tune has a tinge of sadness and melancholy. Trust your intuition. I have seldom found you wrong! lol Thank you for this post. I was totally unaware of Mr. Isakov, though I live in Denver. We have a huge Indie/Folk scene here, but I am not hip. I will now keep my ears open!
This is pure sunrise music. Treat yourself to a late spring sunrise paired with this song. A mug of coffee, sunlight lightly steaming the dew from the grass, and a place of quiet peace.
The lyrics are wide open to interpretation, but I do know that first line "Remember when songs were just like prayer?" About 120 years ago or so in the US, most popular music was sacred (religious) believe it or not.
An unexpected surprise! Not a whole lot of reactions to this guy on TH-cam. Pretty much anything on The Weatherman or This Empty Northern Hemisphere is really good and worth reacting to. His album with the Colorado Symphony was an album of re-productions of his earlier material, which was kind of hit-or-miss for me personally. I liked the original production of this song from That Sea The Gambler, a bit more than this version.
It is a confession of his life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Simple and pure.
One of my favorite songs ever.
Wow...beautiful song♥ Great request and reaction!
Fricking awesome. Going on my play list. Thanks for the turn on man. Peace ✌️
It baffles me that there are such few reactions to his music on youtube. I definitely recommend listening to Watchman or Appaloosa Bones by Gregory
The banjo player, Steve Varney, is a friend of mine from way back. He's the perfect compliment to Isakov. Such magical work.
He certainly is! I often call Steve "The Wizard" because he is sooooo good at soooo many instruments. He's a joy to watch.

Gregory is such a talented musician. Absolutely love his music ❤️

You should check out Isakov's "Saint Valentine." Witty and wonderful and fun song.

his cover with Passenger of Kathy's Song (Simon & Garfunkel) is so freaking great
I agree! SO good! Have you seen their cover of "Sweet Baby James"? You should check it out! I'd love a duet album from them.

He has an uber-devoted fan base. If you're on FB, they're known as the Gregory Alan Isakov Collective.
