I would love to have one of those bikes like yours, but I'd like for it to have foot pegs on the back to take a passenger through light trail riding. At the moment, I've got my eye on a Tenere 700 but I'd much rather have something smaller and more nimble to be able to do some good solo riding through rough terrain. The 700 seems too big for that but on the other hand perfect for 2 person trail riding. I used to have a 500 class 2 stroke and I'm seriously missing the ability to climb just about anything that presents itself and there is no way the 700 would work. Just asking since you've owned one for a long time and I'd like your input. Thank you.

For someone like me, who is a pretty average dual sport rider and doesn't need the latest generation performance, it's definitely worth a look. Especially at the price.
It looks like a polished up KTM RFS, which are some of the most dependable, long lasting high performance four strokes ever made. Rocker actuated valves that can be wrench adjusted vs. bucket and shim which many times require camshaft removal for adjustment. Wouldn't even bother with a rebuild on those bikes until 10k offroad miles at least. The platform that this bike is based off of is still a reliable offroad machine to this day. A buddy of mine has an '04 KTM 450EXC and he's never done anything other than change the oil and adjust the valves.
Still rolling on my '00 Husky TE610 (570). Great bike. Glad SWM is still making these. Wouldn't mind a RS500 at all. Don't need a silly plate where I ride which does include a few forest roads.
Excellent review! Thank you! I am picking up my Beta 430 RR S tomorrow ( Sat., 8 Oct)....... it should be amazing but I actually love this bike! For the average DS RIDER.....this bike will be just fine ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE! Cheers!
Thanks Ron for sharing this Bike with us Interested in this bike because of the low price for the quality putting into it, keep up the good work, and for old timers I remember you from 1978 taking pictures from DeAnza cycle park when I was racing a 1978 Can-am.
Husky and BMW did get more folks out on the trails about 12 years ago. It was exciting to see these bikes in the showroom. I took my son to a couple sponsored racing events, like the arena trials over piles of logs and giant boulders etc, Wild racing! 💯 But yeah it’s gotta be recertified, no need for all the grievances.
Great vid and great timing. Spent yesterday exploring some of our Utah mountain trails and "roads" on my 08 990. Some of the smaller, rocky trails were just too tight or steep for turning around 500+ lbs when things shut down. (I'm not getting any younger) so I made the decision to seriously look into adding a 500 to the stable. Big enough to ride on the road and open desert blasting and small enough to get turned around when a rocky climb goes bad. The EXC was my likely choice, but I'm not thrilled with KTM's digital direction (as in their "Demo" mode in the new 890R) or their prices. Some of your descriptions of the SWM sound like what I'm looking for, in a smaller package...grunt, plush, proven....cheap.

No need to spend thousands more on bikes like ktm etc. these bikes will take you where ever you need to go. Just as well as the big company bikes

That bike is based on the last model year for the motor which was 2010 . It has a different frame, engine cases intake swing arm and linkage are all different from the 2007. This is a different model from the RS which is still made .
@@crashalexander7232 There is some debate as to which year of Husky this is based on. I think in the video they mentioned 2007? But this looks more like a 2010. There are significant differences between the two, I think?

@@andreasbronwaller567 Yes I am. Early Husqvarna 4 strokers came in the early 80`s. They had a self constructed and fabricated motor. 1st whomever is riding that awesome bike must be a serious trials biker rider. He or she really is intune with operating that bike at a biomechanical level. 2nd. The bike itself is one I'd most definitely purchase and I'm sure enjoy. Clearly the Husky branding is in its DNA, and the top shelf brands of KYB, and Brembo Enough Said. 3rd. The negatives: A. The Gallon and a Half tank, That's got to be replaced B. The squared off exhaust tubing concerns me, as it very much seems to be a double edged bottle neck. Look at how many 90 degree bends are at the front of the engine. Wow that can't be good on scavenging. Other than those negatives I do like this awesome bike Price, performance, and looks.
Do you have any issues starting the bike hot? And does it start on gear other than neutral? I have a 2019 RS500R and see both these issues along with flareouts. I wonder if anyone has a good fix for these issues documented somewhere.

@@rideyourbike This review is about the SWM. If you'd like to review those others models, I'd love to see them. @@kugangles9860 I have owned a DRZ400SM and a DRZ400E and they were great bikes. Easy and cheap maintenance and long service intervals. The SWM has shorter service intervals and has additional oil screens that have to be cleaned with each service. Not a major job but adds to the maintenance. The SWM has 6 gears, fuel injection, better suspension, better brakes, hydraulic clutch and feels much lighter. Even though it is an older design it feels lightyears ahead of the DRZ as a dirt bike. I have an SWM RS 300 R which I love but the DRZ is much better on the road. The RS 300/500 is really just a dirt bike with indicators and lights. The DRZ is more versatile and can do longer distances quite comfortably.

No mention of being designed and engineered by MV Agusta. It is an Italian motorcycle through and through, in fact that is where the original Husqvarna factories are located and reopened to continue to build this motorcycle.

I'm ready for this when it becomes available as a street legal DS. My KLX230 is fun but weighs as much as this 500? And you're saying it's a little on the heavy side? Come on man!
Haha I ride a xt660x… this swm is a featherweight in comparison.
How long service intervals? Good handling on pavement?
Could you please give me more information on the different components, KYB forks- open or closed cartridge. Who makes the shock and what's adj? 1&1/8” bars? Etc, etc. Maybe put up a spec sheet on these vids, so I can pause and read them. Thanks!
Another Awsome vid Thank you. Also I would love to see a off road competition 450 shoutout like rx xc fx etc. that would be awesome also 👍
is 600 good does heads get messed or colant
Based on 2010 TE 510 husqvarna with kayaba suspension
Only problem I have with SWM is finding one within 500 miles
Will the FMF single muffler be standard?
I like it a lot!
3rd. The negatives:
A. The Gallon and a Half tank, That's got to be replaced
The AJP SPR500 is much better version of this bike! -Seen the SPR300 in person and it's a beauty with a lighter better chassis/frame, better exhaust, better intake, better Athena Get fuel injection and mapping, better EVERYTHING, and even has Sachs dual chambered forks!
Cost? Bet it's waaay more than $8K.
Agreed
@@gailtaylor1636 IMHO the AJP SPR Line it's a better bang for the buck.
SPR 250 R 6,000EUR
SPR 310 R 8,000EUR
SPR 510 R 10,000EUR
(price in Europe) For USA prices just call AJP USA.
Do a test ride and tell us what you think.
@@rideyourbike This review is about the SWM. If you'd like to review those others models, I'd love to see them. Their being superior in your opinion doesn't really matter to those that can't afford them. Main thing the SWM has going for it is price and it's based on a proven design. For myself, I'd also prefer the KYB suspension.
Any update on these?
Looks terrific but unfortunately the gas tanks to small
Still it's 10 lbs lighter than my 2022 KLX300... Thanks for the video.
won't last longer :)
I'm trying to find one of these, does it have its dual sport certification yet?
Noob question here:
How (by which company and parts) did you get a single exhaust on a dualexhaust system?
Crf450l killer!
hi guys, I own RS500R but looking for RS500RE fuel map, do you know ID of this mapping?
Best place to buy one?
Honestly the seat is not the best nor is anything over 50 mph on pavement. Other than those things, it’s a beast and a blast to ride.
Is the engine the same as the Husky TE450 2010? I need spare parts for that bike. 😞
Should we be looking at this as a more powerful, 6 speed DRZ400?
DRZ is pretty much bullet proof with basic maintenance this SWM I'm not so sure.
@@kugangles9860 DID YOU WATCH THE VIDEO? WELL ESTABLISHED BULLETPROOF MOTOR ALREADY PROVEN WITH HUSKY....THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH THE MEAT OF THE STORY HOW YOU MISSED THAT IM NOT SURE OTHER THAN YOU DID NOT WATCH THE VIDEO.
@@crashalexander7232 WHY DO YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS
@@butterytoast4836 Because his mom forgot to turn the caps lock off for him when she went to bed.
The RS 300/500
is really just a dirt bike with indicators and lights. The DRZ is more versatile and can do longer distances quite comfortably.
nice i gota ATK 605 DSES similar i may get AJP OR SWM
Is there an oversized fuel tank available? That 1.7-1.9 gallon tank is absolutely ridiculous for a dual-sport bike.
I owned TXC250 & TC250 2008-2010 Husky models bikes and that frame would carve a line inside a line ... Get the engine right and it's gonna turn with these bikes that as a decade younger ...
I can’t ride a KTM to it’s full potential. This is plenty fast enough for me.
Un mostro 😁🤑🤗
Cubes rule 😅❤😊
Where does the weight come from and how do you lighten it?
Buy a newer bike. Older bikes are heavier. That engine alone is probably close to 30lbs heavier than a 2023 KTM/Husky/GasGas.
@@gailtaylor1636 gotcha..
Wonder why they don't use the bigger 570 engine
What are they worth used
"Hyperactive legislative states". Great writing.
I was i have Husqvarna TC 510. Its same. But this one haven't kick start.
No mention of being designed and engineered by MV Agusta. It is an Italian motorcycle through and through, in fact that is where the original Husqvarna factories are located and reopened to continue to build this motorcycle.
Naic that is a swedich inspiration mc 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪👍 so hope tjis is coming back to sweden
ITALY SORRY......
Husqvarna and Husaberg is from begining100% 🇸🇪 Husaberg is from my home city
“Hyperactive legislative states” is a great euphemism
These bikes are just rebadged husqvarna's yes/no.?
Not quite, but almost.
Same factory with a few upgrades.
Everything it quality, like KYB, Brembo, arrow etc.
maybe not for a serious racer, but if you’re honest most of us aren’t.
I love my 300.
Hadda te510 2007. Great bike but transmission ratios too short, and the vibes! If they put counterbalance in maybe good now
It's sold as a competition bike,so no compromise on performance.
C'è anche motard?
You can do it bro
Nice !
How about a Re300 test. Thanks.
They should make a 250cc version for under $4000
Крутая ямаха, переименовали для рынка америки?
Beautiful bike but a dual sport bike needs a large tank and a comfortable seat for those unfortunate highway sections.
ONLY FOR THE OLDER FATTER GUYS...LOL IM 52 AND DUAL SPORT FOR ME IS COUPLE MILES TO THE NEXT TRAIL OR AROUND TOWN IF YOU WANT TO RIDE MORE ON ROAD BUY A XR650L OR KLR 650 ETC ....THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR YOU.
@@crashalexander7232 Actually I ride a 450L and just like every other owner I've replaced the seat and the tank since Honda missed the memo too. If it's street legal 3 gallons should be a minimum.
@@mikeisland7382 NAH....2.4 GALLONS ON MY 21 BETA 500RRS WILL GO 70 MILES EASY AND WHEN GUYS GO AFTERMARKET CHOICES ARE ALWAYS VARIED SO WHY WORRY ABOUT PUTTING THE RIGHT TANK ON...EACH GUY WANTS SOMETHING DIFF ANYWAY ....AND WILL UPGRADE TO WHAT THEY WANT ....YOU WANT MORE SOME DONT....THE MARKET HAS SPOKEN AND YOU LOSE....LOL
Looks nice but dual sport with skinny seat and tiny fuel capacity... Ain't gonna be riding that very far 🤔
IMS makes a big tank.
60 MI MAYBE
Weres all the weight coming from, looks like the average dual sport to me.. this may be a bike to consider based on the prices of ktm, beta those are 12k.. WE shall see..
No volume in the last vid
RE300 coming soon.
What are the service intervals? For that price, if they are long(ish) it could be a great dual sport, light adventure bike
Depends on the type of riding. Looks like it’s aimed more at KTM than Suzuki.
oil change 2k and 4k for valve check, info from SWM service manual
5.000km service oil
I’ve had a rs300r for 4 years and love it.
I’m an older trail rider and it’s almost perfect for me.
Was going to buy a used bike but this was about half the price of a new ktm and within my budget.
Service intervals are 2500km which is about 12 months for me😎
The tank could be bigger and 6th gear needs to be a bit higher too.
@@RealHooksy u can get a bigger tank from IMS. the gearing change the sprocket, as you most likely do not go on technical, get a smaller front sprocket and smaller rear sprocket, you will get faster on the higher gears
Did they put some of that weight into the engine so that it runs smoothly like a DR400S / WR250R? Or is it a migraine inducing vision blurring paint shaker like a EXC500F or CRF450L?
This bike look alike Hero Xpulse 200 the most affordable off-road bike in world
"hyperactive legislative states" means "blue shithole" if anyone was wondering.
1.7 gallon tank? That’s trash. Better not go into the woods on something like that
60 MILES IS DECENT
If '07 was the year, compare it to '07 bikes!!!
Im in cali tho i may a 600 used
needs stiffer seting
