The “fans” that booed don’t comprehend finance and running a business. They think because THEY want Alonso that Cohen should spend whatever amount of money THEY want him to spend even if Cohen thinks the “product” is not worth the money. It’s been clown after clown I have gone back and forth with because they don’t comprehend “why” Cohen isn’t just giving Alonso a few extra million dollars.
I would like to see Alonson back with the Mets. But he reportedly turned down a 7-year $158 million extension. I don't begrudge him that he turned it down. He felt he was worth more. Most of us who work in any job feel that way. He took a gamble and it seems like he lost. The market reset itself, and if any owner felt he was worth a long-term risk, he would have been signed by now.
Michael King would be a great addition, however I love how he at age 30 is in his prime, but everyone thinks Pete age age 30 is over the hill. the Mets need to sign Pet, the other options at 1B are unproven we know what Pete is capable of, anf frankly we dont get to the NLCS without Pete hitting that HR in Milwaukee
The reason we barely made the playoffs is BECAUSE Alonso was terrible all season and it’s laughable when people like you point out the HR in Milwaukee when Alonso hit .222 in that series and was part of the reason the Mets backs were against the wall!!! Alonso was the cause of car wreck and then you’re going to hail him as a hero because he pulled someone out of the burning car he smashed into.
I thought Cohens comments on Alonso were unprofessional. You keep those details to yourself. In fact, the New York Times wrote an article explaining how Cohen more than likely violated Attachment 49 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
For what it's worth Boras gave MUCH more detail than Steve Cohen did. All Cohen said was that it was "asymetric" to the METS interests and wasn't going to be considered...Whereas, Boras was MUCH MORE specific in saying their proposal conformed to other structures recently consummated for "All-Star level Players", which can be sourced specifically, while the METS offer cannot be sourced relative to existing contracts with other players. Here's what the pertinent sections of Attachment 49 say from the CBA "Basic Agreement 2022 -2026" from the MLBPA website: "(1) The Covered Parties may not (i) disclose to the media the sub- stance of contract discussions between a player and a Club (including but not limited to the facts of offers, the substance of offers, or decisions not to make offers or to withdraw offers) until after terms on the contract have been confirmed by the Office of the Commissioner and the Players Association; or (ii) announce an agreement on a contract that is contingent on the player pass- ing a Club-administered physical examination until after the player has passed that physical examination. (2) Similarly, none of the Covered Parties may make comments to the media about the value of an unsigned free agent, or about possi- ble or contemplated terms for an unsigned free agent, regardless of whether discussions have occurred. The prohibitions apply equally to comments that are on and off the record, as well as to comments that are provided on the condition of anonymity or published without identifying the source (e.g., “an industry source”)."
I literally just read the article and the article literally said “Whether Cohen violated Attachment 49 is a matter of interpretation.” NOWHERE did it say he “more than likely” violated Attachment 49. Stop spreading BS.
Juan Soto is somebody else's player. He hasn't hit 226 home runs with the mets. I think it's silly to assume that at age 30, alonso's career is over just because had one bad year where he still hit over 30 home runs. The mets have overpaid for Soto, Lindor, Nimmo, McNeil, Verlander, and Scherzer, but they can't do the same for Alonso. It doesn't make sense to me. And now they'll have to go trade for a 1st baseman and have even more players from other teams. It's pretty pathetic that David Wright is the only career Met worth mentioning in franchise history.
it's a different sport than the past...hardly anyone is with one team for life anymore...winning a championship is more important than having a lifetime player break records...Mets can still win without Pete
@MetsDaily sure they can win without him, but i don't think it will mean as much. It took fans a long time to warm up to Lindor, and I think the same could happen with Soto. Fans will always prefer home grown talent. Alonso is the best power hitter the team has ever produced. Letting him walk feels wrong. It feels like something the old mets would do. Just look at Strawberry or Seaver.
@JakeBrownRadio You're sitting there saying on one hand that I love Pete I love Pete and then continue to bash him every time you get the opportunity instead of supporting Pete and saying that he has been screwed over which he has you like the rest of the talking heads in the industry who I think all read off the same sheet of paper can't see the reality of the situation. Pete has gotten screwed. And it's not right.
@JakeBrownRadio and I'll tell you something else chief when you and the rest of the talking heads and all the fans are complaining in June that this team is anemic offensively I don't want to hear a word out of anybody's damn mouth. There's enough money to pay lindor and Brandon and now Soto but there's not even 100 million for Pete. It's a joke it's an absolute joke.
Glad to have you back on the beat Jake.
These podcasts talk too much about other things then getting to the point.
pshhh this isn't a podcast!
Very good commentary. Very articulate and professionally done! Keep up the good work.
thank you so much! appreciate the support!
Let's play ball already. I love Uncle Steve and David Stearns. I trust both of them after last year. They know what they are doing

Starting pitchers vs position players are entirely different...we see pitchers at age 40 still be aces...we don't see hitters at age 40 be good

this guy spent the first 3 minutes on advertisement. get to the point brother
recapping the first ever Amazin' Day where thousands of Mets fans were and letting the thousands who weren't there what it was about?
Soto is gonna get walked 3-4 times a game because we don’t have somebody to bat behind him you dope
they don't need a 40 HR hitter that isn't good with RISP behind him...they have Vientos/Nimmo/Marte/Winker...and will add a bat
SCHILL
...ing?
@MetsDaily no that you are a schill.
