I hadn't either until I mentioned it in the video😁

My pleasure Bonnie. Happy sewing!😀
Hi Christine. Thank you for this brilliant backpack video.
I think this could be another make for me to use when biking. As it can be folded, I can stow it away and then use it, like you say, for essentials when we're visiting places. My paniers will be full of very useful Christine makes
Thanks again 😄
We're about to go away soon, and I'm finding loads of my handmade items I can take with us too Jay😀
This is the best pattern for a drawstring bag I have seen! I just sewed this up! I have done several others and yours is far superior! Thank you
Wow, thank you so much😊
Love this bag. Like the way you learn along with us. As long as you tell us what your making but only if you want to. Thanks Christine 😊
haha, thanks Janet. I'll only surprise you sometimes😊
Love that fabric. My Hibiscus and Rose of Sharon are blooming now. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome Cynthia. They're such pretty flowers😊
Looks lovely.
Thank you Sandy😊
Both the fabric and the backpack are fantastic. Your breaking down the steps makes this tutorial so easy to follow. The fabric is gorgeous!❤ I was thinking a ladies tote would be better, but, the flowers and the birds are a bit large for that and may get lost in the construction. I wouldn't worry about the back side of the back pack. I would never have known the fabric was wrong side up. The print is so large, it looks just fine. Kind of like performing a piece of music on a musical instrument. Most people have rarely heard what I'm playing, therefore, will never know if you've made a mistake. This happened to me performing a piece of music on an organ during a recital/concert my oldest sister had to organize. My piano skills were the same as hers but I was just learning to play the organ. One might think, not that much different. You have to be able to play notes with your feet, heel to toe, right or left, while playing music on several different keyboards with your hands. I can't talk and walk at the same time 😅. But, I was hanging in there. I was unfamiliar with the organ, so I went through my piece, set the stops ahead of time as well as the volume...all I had to do was play. I went to another room to practice my piano piece. I had several songs, different instruments. My organ piece was first. No problem, everything was ready. It was supposed to be a piece called an Air with flutes and light sounds. I hit the first chord and it was trumpets and other brass instruments, and somewhat louder. I stopped, addressed the concert goers saying "there will be a change in the programming. I will be playing a Trumpet Voluntary, my apologies. I sat down, and blew everyone nearly out of the audience into the hallway, but I simply played it like that was the way it was written... exactly how my piano teacher said, just louder 😂. My sister's professor was quite amused and impressed with my "change in the programming". The other songs were fine. The only reason I announced my program change was because my mother let out an enormous gasp. No one would have been the wiser, but hearing my mother having a heart attack was not helpful. 😂 It's just a funny story now. At the time, my uncle came backstage, handed me a flask, and I took a good swig of whiskey. So, a few flowers does not a difference make on this. No words upside down. 😊❤
Thanks Sharon. It would have been a great fabric for a bag if those birds were a little smaller😊
Lovely quick project that will come in very handy for my grandchildren going back to school.Lovely clear instructions as always ,thanks for sharing
Thanks so much Eve. I'm sure they'll love them😊
Hi Christine. You're looking very trim today. And I love your dress - the background colour really suits your colouring. Time for the all milk coffee to enjoy while I watch your video. Aug'24. UK. E ❤
Thanks Eileen. Hope you enjoyed your coffee and the video😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs ❤👍 . E❤
I am amazed at your creativity. Side note: it took me a dozen or so try’s and I have mastered adding zips and having enough seem allowance to stitch sides without bunching and ruining the seams. That has been my hardest element to achieve! Thank you!!😊
Thanks Susan. I used to struggle with zips too. I feared them for years😁
I was struggling with what to make one of my co-workers who got a job as a school teacher's assistant This is perfect, she can wear this and keep her hands free, yet have a place to keep first aid , pen/ paper and whatever she needs when they are away from the classroom. Thank you so much, so happy I found your channel. PS, now I know what and how to use a bobkin.
Thanks Eve. It was years before I knew what the bodkin was for😊
Lovely bag and beautiful birds!!
Thanks Gloria. I did love those birds😊
i love this bag, going to try a smaller version.
That sounds like a great plan Lee😀
Great bag and beautiful fabric choice, even upside down! 😉
haha, I can't believe I didn't see it sooner😁
Just ordered a heap of toggles, cord end covers, cord. I am going to make a dent in my stash one way or another! Fantastic project 👍 ❤ 😊
haha, I say that all the time Sue, then more fabric turns up😀
I will make one. Nicer look than my other drawstring backpack pattern. May line with waterproof canvas to protect the contents a bit if using in wet weather
That's a great idea Erin😊
Now I've got to buy some toggles 😅. Great bag
Some nice chunky beads would work well for this too😀
This is a great light weight backpack that can fit into a suitcase and would be handy for day trips! Good idea! I think I would put an outside pocket on both sides. 👍🇨🇦
Thanks Barbara, the extra pockets are a good idea😀
Well, it is very easy to go to the end of the video, check out what you made, and come back to the beginning - exactly what I am doing! Love the end product!
Thanks Gillian. always do this too😊
Thanks Christine. 👏 After every one of your videos, I’m itching to get started on the item myself!
Yes, I think I will place the pocket or even add an extra pocket on the side next to body for security.
It's a good idea Bernadette. I'll do that next time too😀
Beautiful bag. Gorgeous fabric. Haha fabric upside down on back. Exactly, no one will see it. ❤ I can see making this for operation Christmas child boxes so kids can put their content in these bags. Two thumbs up!
Thank you Mable. I'm sure the kids will love them too. It's a lovely idea😊
Thank You! I have been looking for a quick, lightweight backpack pattern like this!
My pleasure Theresa😀
The fabric sets off this basic backpack. As always, your technique is exceptional. I am preparing for a trip and will make one to take with me rather than the heavier and bulkier commercially-made backpack. Thanks. Have an awesome trip. Kathleen in Canada
Thanks so much Kathleen😀
Such a useful back pack. I love the fabric too. You can’t even notice that the flowers on the back are facing the wrong way. One time my hubby hung some wall paper in the bedroom. Called me to come and look and I noticed the leaves were growing down instead of up lol. Makes it unique ☺️☺️❤️ no one else even noticed 👍👍
I'm sure they'll love them Eve😀
Great video
Thank you Carmen😀
So glad you make mistakes like the rest of us!😀
I make plenty of mistakes Judy😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs makes me feel there is hope for me. I refer to my renderings from my machine as “perfect imperfection”. Thanks for your tutorials. Very helpful. Loved the video with your mum!
Fab Backpack :) could you please make a dressing gown many thanks.
I'd love to Lily. Not sure when i'll get the time though. I hardly sew for myself these days😊
TY. My kids and grandkids love those. My son likes a divided section in his interior. Can you advise how I would do that or maybe do another project?? I love that fabric too. So pretty.
Thanks Debbie. You could put a half divider across the inside fairly easily😊
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. Are you planning to make one for Chris?
I sure am Loraine. He'd like his more masculine though 😀
"Don't do what I did"...............yea, right! I'm good at that!!
Me too. I'm sure I'll do it again Cherie😀
Great video - looking forward to making this. For a 12 year old boy of average height - how much do you think I should reduce the size of the bag? I'm concerned it would be too tall for his back.
This was quite deep for Chris and I when we went on holidays. Could have been a couple of inches shorter. I'd measure down the length of the child's back to see how long it should be😁
When stitching the boxed bottoms, have you tried stitching the lining and the outer together at the same time?
We did actually do that in the video Linda😊
This is not a criticism, because I have enjoyed and tried many of your projects. It’s just a question and observation…when you fold ends of strips or finger press to stop stitch, do you ever use an iron to press the creases in place? For me, heat seems to hold the fabrics in place better for top stitching.
No criticism taken Carol. Usually when filming, I'm a little lazy to get up and iron, so just finger press the fabric. It didn't work too well for this one though. If I'm sewing for the shop, I'll usually use the iron or heat press😀
When making the zipped pieces, after the initial sewing, could you press the fabric away from the zip?
Nevermind, I watched 30 seconds after I commented lol.
haha, sometimes I forget to mention ironing😊
💚 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦜 🦚 😊
Thanks Heather😊
