Back in the day I had a JC Higgins 22LR given to me on my twelfth birthday that we did "sniper" shots as far as we could see with iron sights shooting tin cans.
A box of ammo was 25 cents and the mountains were out the back door.

I do 300 with my 22 at my range. Nothing fancy just a Ruger American can hit usually about nine out of 10 on the 18-inch gong. I love the looks I get when I lay down with a 22 at the 300-yard range. In my opinion it's more fun trying to hit at 300 with a 22 than it is for a 308 or somethin.

Yeah, the .22 may not be the best, but I think it’s more fun because it’s not and it provides a challenge. I also screwed with a guy who couldn’t hit a 48in plate at 200 with an ar by taking out my ruger mark 3 (red dot) and hitting it for him

Agree - something about the bullet drop and challenge with ELR 22. It's got me back into ELR shooting with my .223 as well. We often shoot our 22's out at 300 and push the .223's past 700. When you don't have the real-estate or finances to shoot CheyTac or Lapua out past a mile or two, you can still feel like a King shooting 22 ELR. The challenge is uniquely similar though the 22lr is inherently inconsistent round.

I do a ton of long range 22/22mag shooting, especially over the last couple years since the price of ammo has gone crazy. I live in Montana and my nearest neighbor is 5 miles away. We have tons of gopher's and prairie dogs. It's amazing what you can do with the 22's. The 22 WMR picks up where the 22lr ends.

I used to hunt the Wallabies (small kangaroos on my farm with a .22LR semi-auto. Until they changed the law, and now I'd go to jail. 100 yards wasn't too hard, standing. Win. Power Points did pretty well with hitting power.

    • @marw1920
      @marw1920 ปีที่แล้ว

.. and the .223 picks up where the WMR ends. Shooting ELR on the cheap - a hell of a lot of fun. With just two CZ's bolt actions (the 457 and 527) you get to shoot 22LR, 22 WMR, 17 HMR, .223 and .556. Cheap and readily available ammo. [With the introduction of the CZ 600, you essentially get every other common caliber in just two rifles - the CZ 457 and the CZ 600 covers them all. Want to have every caliber at your fingertips, you only need 3 actions - the 22, a short 600 and a long 600.]

Such a pretty rifle. When I shoot in the farmland behind my house. I’ll shoot 75-80 yards and it will hit the sand and bounce up and travel all the way back about 400 yards and hit the trees back there still traveling pretty good. I can hear it so it’s hitting pretty hard still at that distance. It’s not impossible. I have a old 1949 Stevens model 87T with a 24” barrel and it shoots nice groups at like 50 yards open sights. I just restored it from a pile of rust that was unshootable to a beautiful lil plinker.

I have the 452 Lux, which is similar to that 457. Federal 711b and a couple different loads from Aguila shoot sub-MOA out to 100 yards, and then the vertical dispersion shows up more dramatically at 200 and yields about 2 1/2" groups. That is with a 2-7X32mm Nikon Monarch scope...not a lot of magnification, but exceptionally sharp.

Remington Thunderbolt is terrific ammo in my opinion. First of all it's cheap, it was 3 cents a round a couple years ago and even now it's still under a dime. But most of all it is the ONLY 22lr ammo that cycles all of my semi automatics, not even the high price CCI is as dependable! Whether it's as accurate at 200 yards as some other brand....I don't know and I don't care, I never shoot at anything that far away with a .22 anyway!

I am impressed with Norma subs. My newish 457 will group 2 inches at 150 yards rest shooting. CCI supersonic and the groups open up even at that range. For work it has got to be subsonic for me, usual ranges are 25 to a 100 on rabbits, crows and suchlike. Trouble with supersonic at those ranges is noise, even with a moderator. And I have shot rabbits where the round goes clean through and they run off. Hate wounding so subs are the answer. We are facing a UK lead ban soon, and the Eco stuff is freaking a lot of us out, looking at copper flying at 1450 fps and 22 or so grn weight is worrying. Brilliant vid as always bud, thanks.

My ruger 10/22 with factory barrel would put 10 bullets in a dime at 50 yards and that was with Remington thunderbolts, I could actually hit a finishing nail. I should have left it alone instead I put on a heavy target barrel and I am lucky if I get 10 bullets in a quarter now. I have had mixed velocity many times out of the Thunderbolt, so I never did any real accuracy testing or long range with it, but it almost always goes bang, and never had a squib even with the few light loads I get out of a brick. Haven't bought any in a long time, it's $50 a brick again- was $15-20 a brick two years ago. I finally bought some of that Tac 22, and man that stuff is so slippery! shot some in my LCPII Saturday, and that stuff was hard to get in the magazine by hand lol

My CZ and Anschutz rimfires outshoot my triple deuce out to a hundred meters, averaging a little over half-MOA with SK Rifle match ammo. Stretch that to 200m and they really start to fall apart compared to the centerfire (to say nothing of 300). I still get orange to grapefruit-sized groups at 200m but in a hunting situation I feel that is both not enough accuracy for a clean kill on small game, and not enough power to humanely take animals large enough to be confidently hit in their kill zone.

ELEY Hi Velocity hollow points should fix that for you. Currently they are $6.35 a box of 50 if you buy a brick at CC. Champions Choice in Tennesee. They have a good selection at decent prices right now. All the Lapua is sold, however I’m keeping my eye open for Lapua long & super long range. If yours like SK, they will love Lapua, SK,s parent company

I shoot squirrels out to 100’s n I shoot them at targets often that far, I’ve got a Ruger charger that’ll hit an 8” metal gong every time at 100’s , my favorite 22 ammo is Federal 36 gr

From my experience using a classic Ruger 10/22 at 170yrds I’d say it’ll be good enough up to 200 for regular plinking. Wouldn’t hunt at those ranges with it tho

A 22lr will kill out to about 400 yards
See if it will go through a 1/2 pine board at that range . It absolutely will

The CZ is capable of grouping at 200 yards. But, you do become subject to ammo consistency and wind. It’s nice you seeing the stretch the CZ. Next stop, 300 yards.

Looks like a lot of fun I used my Savage 64G mostly to 75yds. But it's sighted for 100yds. Pretty much stock with a Tasco 4x32 scope for squirrels

If you put a tracer down range u will see how they drop but use solid shot on a calm day you can get a decent group but the wind blows em all over..I used a single shot BSA sportsman with a pecar 3x21 scope not designed for that distance but they do get there and would still ruin your day if you got hit with one!

That's cool. Nice shooting. Absolutely one can reach out with a .22 LR. I have the Varmint version 457 with a Nikon .22 scope and I have grouped at 150yds with Federal match ammunition.
Thanks for sharing, lots of fun.

I usually go to the local range that only had 100 yard and I always shot 22 LR never even tried subsonic ammo out of it. I think I shot a bunch of the CCI 22 LR because it was very affordable and what the places around me stocked. Later I tried some Remington and Winchester 22LR I don't know why but I always tried to get the copper bullets except the Remington looked like they had a wax coating on them and I had no issues with it. I had issues with some lead bullets that would after a few rounds would leave crud in the rifeling to the point I would brush the barrel after every few rounds. None of the guys I went shooting with had that issue untill they tried the same ammo and it did the same to their guns.

I have the 457 Varmint model and have only shot it out to a 100 but not for groups. I have however shot it at 50yds for groups and it's under an 1" which is good for me. Also I am in the process of trying out some different brands of match ammo to see which is the best and so far it's the Wolf match that is the best. My hunting round is some 40gr. Winchester solids.

Norma looks like good ammo used 22lr to practice shooting .308 Win at 1000yds 220yds or 200 meters with cci mini mags 58 up clicks on scope surprising accuracy if no wind. takes awhile to reach target can see in flight.

I put a 14 inch gong out 100--200 yards.and can hit it every time as long as its not windy. How about here in Florida I'm not allowed to shoot on public land. Only range or heavily regulated Wildlife management areas. And target shooting is discouraged. Good videos.
