Honestly Jay, even as someone who hates most of the SC2 story (though I love the gameplay for the most part), I’m also getting tired of ranting about all the things I don’t like about it.
I've noticed that these early missions have a lot of scripted events when random NPCs say or do stuff when your units get close. As the campaign progresses these get less and less frequent, as if the level designers decided not to bother with these anymore.
I can think of a good gampley reason for that, actualy. Those little scripted events can serve a few purposes: discret gameplay hint, way for a character to show some of their character trait or devellop the setting or mission in some little way, or just add a touch or personality and humour, but they are a small distraction to the player's attention. In earlier missions that's not a big deal . But later missions are (at least, suposedly) more taxing and require much more of the player attention (as well as story wise generlay being more "dramatic" especialy int he last three wo are the 'climax' of the game) so you can't really afford to have too many of these little interuptions that would 'break the flow'.
I don't think thats true. In the medi-vac mission the marines and Goliaths say stuff when you pick them up. On the battlecruiser mission the dark Templar thank you for freeing them. On the nydus tunnel mission the marines have 2 different voice lines depending on if you save them or let them get killed by the omegalisk.
Seems like an encoding problem, happens occasionally where small bits of audio, video, or both get messed up. I recorded this a year and it's possible that I trimmed a couple seconds out when I noticed a problem, I don't remember. Sounds like I just said "There are some mapmakers", etc, etc
The first three missions of this campaign always felt so weird to me, like they were written for a campaign with an entirely different tone than what we ended up getting. It may just be that it’s on Mar Sara and so I automatically associate it with the SC1 Terran campaign and expect a lot more anti-dominion stuff than the whole like three missions we get
Before mission 1 I guess Jim was just like "Matt you take care of the revolution for me. I'm gonna go drown out my sorrows"
playing this right after SC broodwar, and dajum: selecting more then 12 units is sooo good quality of life
I love how Kate actually tells the truth when reporting the news dispite Vermillion trying to put words in her mouth and cutting her off.

Also I like the character of Kate.
