Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 only due to low voter turnout. So many people figured that no one would do something crazy like vote for Trump and that Hillary had the election in the bag, so they didn't bother to show up to vote. She actually won the popular vote, but lost enough electoral votes in states that were extremely close - had Dems in those states bothered to get out to the polls, it would have tipped the electoral vote count to Hillary's favor, and Trump would never have been president.
Watching this I was reminded of when this same channel said Hillary was like 95% to Trump 5% in the “polls”.

On exactly what date was that in 2016? November 1st? I don't think so.
You understand that the purpose of _reporting_ on, analyzing and drawing conclusions from public polls starting two years before an election, rather than just letting the results lie there on some webpage no one will see, is to influence voters.
Poll results can be used to remind voters they actually have to vote, as many commenters are pointing out here.
They can be used to fuel the perception of momentum or even inevitability and appeal to voters who want to end up on the winning side.
They can scare voters (and politicians) as they did in the case of Pres. Biden's withdrawal.
They can motivate voters whose preferred candidate is behind to work harder, contribute more and get out to vote.
And all this can happen to the same poll results interpreted in four, or even more, different ways to bolster the credibility of the influencers.
You will never hear a reputable pollster say that their purpose is to predict a winner. You will hear some pundits on Fox, MSNBC, etc. telling you what to think about what the polls mean, including a 95% chance of a Hillary victory. It's up to you whether you think their interpretation makes sense. If you listen to Kornacki, he is extremely careful about how he interprets the polls, about the language he uses. Yay, Steve! That's the right way to do it. Why not just analyze the stats yourself and determine who you think is going to win?

They’re stupid and mostly single issue voters that Republicans target and tell them that their boogeyman is someone coming across the border to go work on a farm or cleaning homes or in a kitchen or really any work to make a better life for themselves. To MSNBC: Btw, while some polls may say that the #1 concerns among voters are the economy and inflation, the truth is that it's democracy that people are coming out for. Don't make the same mistake you made before the midterm elections when MSNBC insisted same thing--only to change its tune about two weeks before voting day having finally figured out that the most important reason was NOT economics/inflation but democracy. You guys always say you put no stock in polls--BUT YOU ALWAYS DO. Get it right this time. WE ARE VOTING FOR DEMOCRACY.
