In the 1980s, I was one of those "lucky" kids that opened up my Christmas presents to find, tripwire and mainframe to go with it. Ohhhhh the adventures they went on.
Interesting fact; the high school in Yokosuka on base is Kinnick High School and it is the same high school that Mark Hamill, yes Luke Skywalker, graduated from. Knowing is half the battle. lol.
I remember a friend got Tripwire, and between the swivel arm battle grip, plug-in wire, and removable mines my child mind was blown at the level of detail in a figure of that time.🙂
Thank you for this. Regards an Indian fan of the gi Joe toys which were released under the Funskool marque. We had fewer characters but still loved them. My brother and I had Snow Job, Mainframe, Crazy Legs, Lady Jane, Scarlett, some Drednoks and Cobra Commander. Vehicles included the AWE Striker, VAMP and the Cobra Razorback (coolest tank ever) . Definitely the vintage classic lineup of the toys.
I had Tripwire and he was an essential part of the team, as he was my anti vehicle/personnel specialist, I loved the mines in the backpack, that was innovative
I agree with your assessment of Tripwire however, I also will add that he looks really good in the headquarters command center (thank you Santa) with the rest of my 1982-1984 joes. I hope you had a good Christmas and a even better new year 😎
Awesome I'm loving the greater frequency of videos you have been doing since your return. I must express my excitement WITH CAPS AND !!!! MARKS and that every GI Joe fan should support HCC788 lets get to 20k subscribers next year I mean cmon! It's long overdue! Lets go...!
I never had the original vintage version, only the Tiger Force version around 1988. To be honest he was the last figure I collected in that subgroup, because I was unexcited by has accessories compare to the rest of the team… I guess as a kid I took issue with figures that didn’t even have a pistol or some weight to defend themselves and combat, so he was often relegated to being a co-pilot in one of my vehicles. Over the years though I’ve looked back and thought how well sculpted his accessories were, and the usefulness of him on the battlefield with more respect
I remember My ten year old self being okay with Tripwire. He was pretty cool looking even if he didn’t have any guns. The modern version is badass looking.
He's pretty cool. I liked when they used a little more color, but Tripwire was good enough. I don't like anything after 1990. Then they went crazy with the colors.
I know i joke ol' Tormod a lot, but he really is one of my faves. He was one of the 1st figs i bought with my own money back in '83. I think i was drawn to him because his colors would blend perfectly with my original green joes. Great review commander!!
I display Tripwire with my 82-83 collection and he fits perfectly there. In a world where Hawk puts claymores under ambulances, GI Joes need an expert to remove their own mines!
I never thought of the first Joe's being an upscale version of the army men. That's an interesting thought. I would think chemistry would be a major part of EOD.
Agree completely with your take on the character. Tripwire did always seem like he was either the LAST figure designed for the 83 line, or the FIRST figure designed for the 84 line. He is very much an inbetweener in that regard. As I get older though, I really find myself liking the older, more mainstream military roots of the RAH line than the colorful, neon, sci-fi stuff that came later. Also, I think the fact that his name is based on the Norwegian name for Thor (god of thunder) and that he's from Minnesota (the football team are Vikings) plays into the fact that he's the Joe expert on stuff that goes BOOM! lol
I almost uploaded my review of tripwire and bomb disposal today, but chose hardball instead. Good thing, because variety is the spice of life, and the spice must flow, or something to that effect, lol... great review! Yours are the most informative, and simultaneously entertaining reviews out there. I hope you keep the older ones up that you re-review, because I enjoy those as well... 😊
A belated Merry Christmas Hoodie. Tripwire looked as if he should belong in the Skystriker, Dragonfly, Armidillo,Mobat or any of the armor or flying craft.
I had alot of Joe's back in the day and I had this one, would always get mocked by the others for only bringing three mines to the war that could easily be avoided. 🤣 We called him Stanley.
Skoog is a fairly common last name in Sweden, a stylized spelling of the word skog, meaning forest. Makes sense since there is a large Swedish/Scandinavian community in Minnesota!
I have another version of Tripwire possibly from a late 1990's early 2000's reissue. It uses the same mold as the original release, but features a darker green color with a black chest plate, black gloves and black boots.
Tiger force Tripwire was the first ever GI Joe I saw on the school playground, being played with by some of my friends. I remember not understanding the hype and thinking that if all GI Joes are like this, they're really not that great 😅 Later I received a Storm Shadow figure from my mom and I was hooked after.
Most of your multi-packs had one popular figure and other ones that would not sell as well without the more popular figure. If I remember correctly cobra commander was only available thru the mail-in offer, a playset, or thru multi-packs.
Having been on several grenade ranges in my life, I can totally see someone having a spiritual awakening there. Tripwire was one of my favorite under-utilized Joes growing.
We love you, HCC788! So glad to see you in good health and good spirits!!! Merry Belated Christmas to you as well, and may you continue to see success, prosperity, and Blessings well into the future. Again, we love and appreciate you, man!! Godspeed!!
PS.... Tripwire was fairly important to the GI Joe 1985 Animated Episode’s plot of “Flint’s Vacation,” as he altered and re-routed Cobra Commander’s ICBM to fly into deep space (thereby saving a lot of innocent people from being killed). Godspeed, Bruddah!!!
just started to restore my collection. Broke this guys crotch replacing the O-ring...OUCH! But I twas nice to see the other joes that were precursors...broke the thumb on Ranger yesterday after I put him together trying to fit a rifle in his right hand. I feel like im 8..im 48
I had the Tiger Force version, I thought it was a cool addition to a team and got lots of use out of the mines......you could always give him another character's extra gun
Can you please help me relieve a memory….back when I was really young about 3-5 years old the year was between ‘85-‘88 I had an older brother and we were HUGLY into GI Joe as Any kid was no matter the age back then…so the Family me my brother mo and dad went to the New Wal-mart that was just built and of course me and my brother took off together running for the toy isle and I’ll never forget what my brothers found, it was this Humongous Aircraft Carrier that had a working Megaphone Speaker system where you could talk into the wired military looking hand Jack by pressing the buttons just like if you were giving orders “All Hands On Deck!” My brother said and it would come out of the Speakers loudly I thought this was the Biggest coolest thing I’d ever seen…I remember it most of cost a lot because we asked mom for it she looked at the price and said Nope let’s go…I haven’t seen this aircraft Carrier since and would really like to see it again and who better todo a video on it than you…..your videos are great you have a love for the genre and I would love to see this aircraft carrier again…I been searching to own one since I was 3-5 years old Thank you for your time and have a great day…
To me this figure will always be "blades" from palitoys Action Force line who was the pilot of the S.A.S. Force attack helicopter which was a repaint of the Cobra F.A.N.G. gyrocopter... Oops my bad, I posted my original un edited comment BEFORE "blades" and the "Hawk" helicopter were shown... Oops.
I like his modern look and very similar to his OG. Hope Classified bring that design with removable helmet. At least, give him rifle and hand gun. Just 4 four figure to complete the ‘83 line. 2nd version Grand Slam with JP, too. Don’t think Hasbro will do the HAL.
Cool review, as always. Even though later waves are more popular, the first 3 3/4 wave is my favorite since it does resemble those great bags of Army men I loved as a little kid. Tripwire and any others that fit in with that are always winners for me (though I think I might have replaced the head with any other that i could have put a helmet and visor (darkened) on.
Tripwire isn't part of my groups I'm collecting again but I decided to get him. He's in excellent shape and I like him. I got him paired up with the bomb disposal unit. I have a couple of enemy explosive people, but trying to decide which other EOD related Joe to pair with Tripwire.
I enjoyed your review. Though I liked the colors of Tripwire v3, my favorite version of the character was Tripwire v4. His colors are similar to v1, but are much more similar to Breaker v1. (His base uniform is Grunt/Breaker's grayish green, while his gloves, boots, and body armor is a matching matte black.) Instead of a rank patch, Tripwire v4 wears an American flag patch on *an* arm (one variant wears a "right-to-left flag" on his right sleeve while another wears a left-to-right flag on his left).
Santa is not an elf. He just employs them. He told me this himself in the 80s when he was under congressional investigation for allegedly stiffing his employees on pay offs.
SO glad to see back !!! I hope your doing and feeling better !!! Can`t wait to see more reviews !!! Once again so Glad to see u back .. Merry Chrtistmas,Happy New Year band GOD BLESS !!!
Just recently re watched the Mass Device series. For some reason they let Tripwire pilot a helicopter. Who would be crazy enough to let this guy near the controls?
The first Joe action figure i bought was Breaker. He was kind of lame compared to later figures. One of the more colorful figures i raced out and bought was Spirit. I thought his uniform was badass and he came with his own eagle.🇺🇸
I like this figure and he looks good behind the bomb disposal vehicle. I thought his depiction in the comic was goofy and the Hama written comic that came in the modern figure 2 pack was pretty bad.
In the 1980s, I was one of those "lucky" kids that opened up my Christmas presents to find, tripwire and mainframe to go with it. Ohhhhh the adventures they went on.

I have so many gi Joe's still from when I was a kid. Thankfully my parents kept them all including the aircraft carrier.
I hope you had a good Christmas and a even better new year 😎
I put him right at the computer in my headquarters! Lol.

Damn, I never realized he was from Hibbing MN, LOL, thats where I live.... what a crazy coincidence.
The master is back in full force! Thanks for getting back into the incredible reviews. Merry Christmas to us.
I remember My ten year old self being okay with Tripwire. He was pretty cool looking even if he didn’t have any guns. The modern version is badass looking.

Great review commander!!
That 25th anniversary one is actually pretty cool. Often I'm not a fan of the updated ones over the 80's ones. But that one works.
I display Tripwire with my 82-83 collection and he fits perfectly there. In a world where Hawk puts claymores under ambulances, GI Joes need an expert to remove their own mines!
I never thought of the first Joe's being an upscale version of the army men. That's an interesting thought.

The first video was not a bad video....let’s call them “classic” 👍🏻
Can’t thank you enough for doing what you do.
Tripwire was one of my favorites as a kid. However I always used him as a pilot.
Great to see you remastering the back catalog!
Great review!!! I did not get Tripwire until the Tiger Force version came out. They could have given him a pistol at least to defend himself 😃
I loved my Tripwire. I really had a fondness for the early years support guys.
I wonder how many kids playing with Tripwire in the 80s knew that you could remove the mines from the backpack.
He was the first Joe from the class of 83 I found in the stores.simple but a good figure.
Agree completely with your take on the character. Tripwire did always seem like he was either the LAST figure designed for the 83 line, or the FIRST figure designed for the 84 line. Great video! Never got this v1 figure. Did get v2 though.
I was always using Tripwire as a pilot. He looked more the part then some actual pilot figures.

“Fumbles…it was always Fumbles.”
A belated Merry Christmas Hoodie. Tripwire looked as if he should belong in the Skystriker, Dragonfly, Armidillo,Mobat or any of the armor or flying craft.
HCC BACK IN ACTION. Love Tripwire, in fact love all the 83 characters and vehicles..super classic 💥💥💥
My 1988 Tiger Force Tripwire had a heel chip out similar to that, never forced onto any figure peg vehicle or stand.
Hahahaha! Nice tie-in with Clark, HCC! Awesome video. Back in the before times my Tripwire ditched the mine detector for Snowjob's rifle.
I loved Tripwire.
I had alot of Joe's back in the day and I had this one, would always get mocked by the others for only bringing three mines to the war that could easily be avoided. 🤣 We called him Stanley.
I always used him as Wild Bill’s copilot in the Dragonfly.
This is a great call back to your classic vintage Joe reviews, very well done sir!!
i liked the uniqueness of Tripwire but I agree that it was initially hard to find scenarios in which to get him involved... that is until Firefly
Skoog is a fairly common last name in Sweden, a stylized spelling of the word skog, meaning forest. Makes sense since there is a large Swedish/Scandinavian community in Minnesota!
This is awesome. Tripwire is one of my favorites. Thanks HCC
Breaker and Tripwire prove something every Marine, Soldier, Sailor and Airman knows deep down in their heart. No one cares about POGs
I have another version of Tripwire possibly from a late 1990's early 2000's reissue.
It uses the same mold as the original release, but features a darker green color with a black chest plate, black gloves and black boots.
Nothing like running around a battlefield with a stack of mines shaped like a target strapped to your back.
My first two Joes as a kid were Zap and Tripwire.
I always loved the Tripwire figure.
Merry Christmas Hoodie CoCo glad to see you back
Love having you back!!!

Blades is actually a pretty cool looking figure!
Love the video. Thank you, good sir.
Jeremy Renner played him well
I had the Tiger Force version, I thought it was a cool addition to a team and got lots of use out of the mines......you could always give him another character's extra gun
He show up on my brother's birthday cake many years ago, he caught on fire, and what survive we took outside and finish the job with a lighter

Great to see you back in the swing of thing brother!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Well, I still have my trip wire figure 1. My neighbor had the third. Which everyone made fun of.
Your voice sounds like a Harry Shearer character. Great video!
Thought it was a thumbnail of the early MegaMan for a second there
'when will you make it end?' pope julius II. 'When i'm finished.' michelangelo The Agony and the Ecstasy, Charlton Heston.
Back and looking great my friend.
Santa is not an elf. He just employs them. He told me this himself in the 80s when he was under congressional investigation for allegedly stiffing his employees on pay offs.
Tripwire was in Revenge of Cobra movie also
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 🎁 as always a great review!
Hey HCC you need to be careful, I tried catching Santa once but he turned my traps on me.
So the idea was boys would spend hours clearing minefields with their GI Joe figure Tripwire.
hoodie coco is back!
SO glad to see back !!! I hope your doing and feeling better !!! Can`t wait to see more reviews !!! Once again so Glad to see u back .. Merry Chrtistmas,Happy New Year band GOD BLESS !!!
Listen n fun tripwire with cassette is the best!
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Is that an I-Ching tattoo? You are a super fan. Gig’em
Tripwire must have been the only 19 y/o who didn't have life figured out already!
The only way to make Tripwire better is to have one in Camo White with removeable helmet !!! YO JOE !!!
Enjoyed this !
Grandmaster hop gar lama Kung fu big fan vary pond looks great 👍
I had brown mines from a accessory booster pack
If Tripwire really is Scottish, it stands to reason he is lifting enemy mines, and then laying them against said enemy -- now that is thrift.
Dig the shirt, MySTie
I like this figure and he looks good behind the bomb disposal vehicle. I thought his depiction in the comic was goofy and the Hama written comic that came in the modern figure 2 pack was pretty bad.
I got this G.I Joe for Christmas they some neighbor stole it from me a day after.
Lol. There was a Joe named Snow Job...yeah that's bad.
Lost my mines.i buried them for trip wire to find and he never found them back in 84
Tripwire only use mine detector because in the cartoons series his job to find mines and explosives..
I missed your humour, Commander.
On the gernade range :)
Wasn't Tripwire the team's EOD expert?
😎👍
Wow no wedding band I'm surprised no chick has lock you down yet
