I don't mind if someone shouts 'marshal' because their car hasn't been seen but the second they get rude their cars staying there and they get laughed at. And if caught on camera its getting put on youtube 🤣
Thanks guys, and all commenters. For complicated reasons I have watched MANY vids on marshalling but not one has mentioned the designated position thing. I have an invisible ailment that I would prefer not to make a big deal of but certain central positions would be a no go for me. End of a straight would be no problem though. Nice to know some places are flexible and some less so.
Really nicely done boys ❤. Lovely tone in this video and hugely useful for clubs and racers alike. 👍👍👍 “Marshalls are indeed doing the racer a favour… and Marshall as you would wish to be in your race”.
Always make sure the car goes back on track... the right way up.. :'D I once quickly flipped an upside down car over an ran back off the track to get shouted an sworn at as I'd quickly flipped it over.. back onto its roof again! At a national too (a loooong time ago)
You raised some excellent points in this video. I pride myself on marshalling well, fair enough I do make the odd mistake, but overall I think I'm pretty good. I confess that I do sometimes shout at the marshals, BUT only when they're doing something 'wrong'. I try my best not to crash, but it's inevitable that you will crash at some point, it's racing after all. And as you said, when you're all on the rostrum, make sure you communicate, and also be mindful of where you are and where other cars are, and how fast you and the other cars are. If someone is lapping you, or just faster than you, move over and let them go past, and give them a few seconds to get away before you plant the throttle and give chase ;) Above all though HAVE FUN!!!
Assuming we're talking about BRCA clubs and events (and we should be) bear in mind that where designated marshal posts have protection for you to stand behind (All my racing experience is outdoors) then your BRCA personal insurance is only covering you when you are behind the protection. Deciding to step out to marshal a car is always your choice and your responsibility so don't treat it any differently to crossing a road. Don't run. If they're on the grass, they're already not going to win. If a car has crashed or gone off in an unusual way, don't just put it straight back on the track, give it a quick look over for obvious problems and if something's broken signal to the driver that it's game over.
Drivers etiquette, that went out the window for me at charged RC, Marshall was sat talking to his mate, the language that came out of my mouth would upset my mother, Mark, you heard this you was stood next to me, Agree with every said, I see drivers moaning at kids, kids only do what they get taught, on most cases not a lot
You forgot to mention be careful not to touch hot motors and very hot Nitro Engines and Exhaust. How to remove body tuck on Touring cars. Also remember your not a roadside mechanic, don't get distracted trying to fix or diagnose someone's car. Simply place it off the circuit behind the marshall post and out of harms way until the end of the race.
Looking at your phone instead of your marshal section is the same as not showing up to marshal. I believe there are rules in place for such cases, as Gil Losi Jr. found out in 1989.
The not just run out on the track without first looking for traffic, at the local club we have a marshal spot just after a big jump section and if you don't look before running out there you can get a car in your head. So yeah look before running out.
The not crashing thing is the best advice for drivers.. slow down to go fast 😃 And it’s sooo hard not to get sucked into watching the racing when marshalling 🤦♂️ #guilty Did you mention gloves?? Great job not only this time of year in the UK, but to stop getting burnt on the nitro exhausts.. Ask me how I know about that one. I’s there a better way to connect with you two? Have a few ideas
As with not being on the phone a marshal should also not be on their smoke, in whichever phase that is. Be careful how the car is picked up, not in a way that the body is removed or tucked between wheels, and, rear wings are no carhandles. Don't repair your friends car while marshaling.
This video should be, how to shout at a marshal, properly. Don’t watch the race, watch your corner. Marshaling an 8th scale nitro race is different than a 10th scale electric buggy, even though a young person can drive a 8th scale, it was too dangerous to have them marshaling. Who has been injured marshaling? Great vid Larry
I don't think you covered this one in your list chaps. Put the car back on the same part of the track where it crashed or rolled. Putting a car back down on the opposite side of a barrier to regain the time lost in the crash is not acceptable, especially if it means regaining lost places.
To some what I agree, however when qualifying and a driver is clearly in the wrong heat, back markers not letting the driver through for the 10th time, if the faster driver gets tangled making a pass on the same car over and over, I will put that car back on the other side, it's not his fault he's loosing time because the other driver has no etiquette or hasn't been taught any, however finals, back where you crashed
We’re always told to not shout at the marshals, yet people do. This has been going on for a long time and doesn’t seem to improve. Might I suggest consequences for unsportsmanlike behavior. Something else than the marshal himself taking a couple of extra seconds with that car. How about a stop-and-go for 5 seconds for the first offence? And a stop-and-go without the go for the second one.
Biggest issue that constantly annoys me is when a marshal runs out on the track right in front of me so I end up driving into their foot and ruining my run. I get there is pressure to marshal quickly but they must wait until the track is clear and not ruin anyone else run. Happened to me yesterday, idiot 🙄
I'll add mine in as well, don't fall over when marshaling... 🫣 I may have taken a tumble at EWS while marshaling the only car that crashed in my area all day! 😂 Sharing this with the EARCC club chat, be helpful to our newbies as well. 👍
This is the YT content that RC racing needs.
Thank you guys, been waiting for this one.

@@KevinTalbotTV just watch your shins on the next lap 😂😂
@@PopalongRC that comment was personal 😂😂
I broke my big toe marshalling. Accidentally kicked the wooden track marker getting back to my marshalling point.

Good points
Someone told me 'If in doubt Don't step out' better to spoil one persons race than three, - I've done it :(

Filming for content is also a big No No when marshalling 😉

Kettering has nearly 3 heats of novice/ kids
That is amazing
Advise wearing gloves some parts on cars can catch your skin especially as your rushing to pick up and put down, it’s a must for nitro hot hot 🔥
Safety first

Don't swear at the Marshall but you can if you're invisible or can hover above the track😊
Haha
I used to wear gloves when I marshal.

Pet hate when Marshall are chatting away and forget there ment to be Marshaling.

What annoys me is when you Marshall a 1/8 on dirt and then get a face full of dirt when they pin the throttle in front of you .
That is just rude hahaha
Just hold the car and look at the rostrum they will soon stop

Stop look and listen before you step out on the track
Martial how how you wish to be marshalled. It’s not the marshals fault you crashed. Try and watch your segment and not the race.
