I was 14 and heard it for the first time, I was enthralled. My mum gave it to me for my birthday. The record was psychedelic in colors like tie dye. I love it to this day.
Today being my 56th b'day born 01/29/1968 i heard this song. I have not heard this song since i was a kid. I never ever heard it on the radio in all these years. My father had it on a various artist bootleg 8 track tape in the early 70's. Another song from that old tape was is this the way to Amarillo by Tony Christie.
I'm French and believed that the song was an American one later covered in French, not the other way around. The french lyrics are even sadder as the singer had left "without a word" to only return many years later when it is too late, and express his regrets for what he never said. Whatever version make me sad and nostalgic and I can't listen to this too often.
