My father was a journalist and he taught me from the time I could hold a mike, that the mark of a good interviewer is how little they have to say to coax the most out of the interviewee. I think of that in my job as a therapist. So many interviewers forget that it’s not about them (lol, therapists, too).

Thoughtful interview, respectful interviewer. Ryan is insightful, intelligent, funny (wickedly humorous!) but definitely not just an actor caught up in ‘ego’. A father, a husband, relatable and genuinely all-round nice person.

Ryan is trying too hard not take his sarcasm to its full potential.
he was wearing a hat, it's the WSJ about business; he's beyond cool, but he's a man with a mission, and for this interview he struck the right wavelength, imo.
I think Ryan Reynolds was being Ryan Reynolds for this interview, and not his alter ego Ryan Reynolds. We’re just not used to seeing that.
@@RoachMcToast , nah, I do think that sarcasm-riffing is his neutral... never miss an opportunity to make your loved ones laugh. making them happy makes you happy and that's a pretty awesome reason for living.

Sounds like Ryan is a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). I also grew up this way and was categorized as "overly shy" and quiet when really I was observing and reading people. I love him even more hearing this about his childhood. 🥰

@@missbumblebee8633 But he turned it to his advantage! He would be a good spokesperson for that, instead of swimming in his past hurt, turn it around into steps to climb out of that pit of hurt and pain, But i have heard many stories like this, but most are people who went thru a lot worse.
I love Ryan and I loved this genuine interview. We all know he's a funny guy, but this sincere interview is a nice change from quick quip interviews he normally does. And it's good to see a fellow Vancouverite do well!!!

I really like these sorts of interviews, where actors I really like do serious interviews. There are so few with Ryan. It's nice to see he's had a lot of the same experiences a lot of us have. He seems more approachable, I guess is how I see him now? I mean it feels like as successful as he is, he's still humble. I like that.
Aviation Gin is delicious, sadly we drank all of ours. I bought it because I saw him talk about it on Jimmy Fallon. If only Ryan Reynolds could deliver it to New Zealand. :)

I watched his Letterman-interview on Netflix yesterday. Got the same vibe from that one. I think he has had a very tough childhood, harder than he is willing to express in this interview.

Great interview. Hawkins doesn't talk over him or interrupt incessantly like many other interviewers do. He let Reynolds talk and was very cool and even keel the entire time. Great questions as well. Reynolds himself is very articulate in his answers. He really knows how to express himself clearly and doesn't ramble on unnecessarily. Great interview, guys.

Ok, well I never thought I would have something in common with Mr. Reynolds, but I heard it in this interview. Always being the new kid in school, I worked very hard to maintain my invisibility in high school. It worked pretty well too. Thanks for being so honest Mr. Reynolds. Not many people being interviewed will be as honest as you appear to be.

Great interview ... very organic like he said and sincere. I loved his acting and him since van wilder and the proposal - all especially deadpool - and little one does too even though some mouthy language for elementary kids ... i think he is the first movie my 6-7 yr old saw with language that i was avoiding for her to learn. Great interview Lee. Thanks for this ..
That was Great, now i got to know Ryan more as a person than an actor which is also great, behind the Fame and the Glamour there's a Person who's Down to Earth, Modest, Honest, and Authentic, and he is without a doubt a guy you would love to be friends with because of that Charismatic Character he got and i'm so glad that i got to know how he climbed to the Spotlight where we got to see him Shine, where he was Meant to be.
I find this young man such a pleasure, even a treasure…his demeanor is so pleasant and seems to be pretty grounded..I adore his films…
