  • Rare home movie of Marilyn Monroe playing golf that was filmed by Joe Dimaggio in 1952 along with a radio interview Marilyn did in 1955 saying who her favorite singers are.
    "Marilyn Monroe was a frequent guest at the Sherman Oaks, Calif., home of Dolores Hope Masi, and one time stayed for 10 months to escape the press.
    Now Masi is releasing some never-before-seen footage of the screen icon playing golf, which was filmed by her one-time husband, New York Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio.
    "I found this old camera in a chest about three years ago," Masi told "Good Morning America." "I knew the camera was there but I had no idea there was film inside. And I had it developed. First, it was my dad shooting Joe and Marilyn by the car. And then when they were playing golf, he handed Joe the camera, and it's my dad teaching Marilyn and my mom to golf."
    Masi, 60, was a child when she knew Monroe, who died in 1962 from what has been called an overdose of sleeping pills. Masi's father, Chic Masi, grew up with DiMaggio and worked in the movie industry, serving as an unofficial manager to Monroe."

      That sweet speaking voice was an act. She was theatrically trained to speak like that to fulfill that sex pot blonde role and she kept it up whenever she spoke to the press or have interviews. Every so often, in an interview, you could see Norma Jean come out for a few seconds then she would catch herself and quickly revert back to being Marilyn. She had to learn to speak like that with the assistance of drama and voice coaches. This is what children today don’t understand about her. In front of the camera she was always Marilyn and that was her biggest problem. She couldn’t pull herself out of that fantasy….afraid that if she acted like her real self that nobody would like her anymore. She needed to do something on her own….she needed to take that chance and show the world that she wasn’t just some sexy, dumb blonde and becoming a pro golfer or something other than a sex pot actress would have done it for her. She should have put herself through college and earned a degree. She had the money and could have shown the world that she was an intelligent, serious person but she kept relying on her breathy voice, boobs, body and sexy image to get her what she wanted in life…..to be taken serious and it wasn’t happening. Towards the end of her life she was hanging out with mobsters, having an affair with the President of the United States and his brother. Those are not the actions of a woman who has it together. Read the book, “Goddess “. It’s very interesting.

    If you listen to what she says her intelligence is abundantly obvious, as is her lovely sense of humour. Some try to portray Marilyn as a dumb blonde - she suffered this prejudice in her lifetime and it has sadly continued long after her death.
    Some people simply cannot compute that a woman can be beautiful and intelligent - a woman can be many things and every woman is unique!
    I love that Marilyn speaks so warmly here of Ella Fitzgerald, another incredible and many-faceted woman. They were great friends and Marilyn supported and helped to promote Ella's career at a time when racial prejudice was putting many obstacles in her way.
    Marilyn was kind and good-hearted, as many people who have suffered are. God bless her, such a short life and ultimately unfulfilling for her - but what magic she generated - and continues to generate - in this world!

      Indeed, she sounded different because Marilyn Monroe was a character she created. It was a totally different person from Norma Jean. I do believe she had multiple personalities one of them was: Marilyn Monroe, the sexy and confident star. Norma Jean was the insecure woman who wanted to be taken seriously and be happy. She also had a child personality which she displayed in her relationships. The child was sad and felt abandoned and unloved. Even though she achieved great success n fame, her life was really sad and empty in reality.

Abuse of any kind is wrong and the man who abused her should have been treated in a like manner. Marilyn was a strong person who I’m sure would resent you saying this person who abused her still had so much power over her. Everybody needs to stop letting people tell them how nothing that they do is they’re fault, it’s just a reaction to something someone else did to them. Please, for the love of God, stop.

    It’s great that someone saved this film
    Footage. The problem with these interviews we see her in is that she never drops that sex pot image and breathy voice she was trained to do. We never get to see the real Marilyn. We get to hear her talk about things that were important to her and she never says a bad word about anyone. However, we still never saw the real person because she always had to keep that sex symbol image going……especially the voice. She always speaks very slowly because she has to keep that sexy voice in place. She was afraid to just be Norma Jean when in front of the camera for fear of rejection. Could anyone imagine Judy Garland giving an interview on the tonight show while acting like her character Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz? That’s what I’m talking about…she was terrified of being herself in front of the camera. She was afraid of the world hearing her real voice…..Norma Jeans voice. She had a lot of mental issues that she needed help for but sadly never got.

    What a find! I've seen interviews with the actress Jeanne Carmen who talked about her friendship with Marilyn Monroe then I read a biography of Marilyn that said Ms. Carmen's name was not in Marilyn's address book and that Ms. Carmen was simply capitalizing on Marilyn whom she didn't really know. In one interview that I saw Jeanne Carmen said that at the time of Marilyn's death she and Marilyn were going to meet to play golf. Maybe Jeanne Carmen really did have a friendship with Marilyn Monroe. Both women knew Frank Sinatra and I'm sure they had other mutual friends and acquaintances. We know a lot about Marilyn but there's still a lot that we don't know: we don't know about all of the people she knew, how well she knew them; we don't know everything that Marilyn did in day-to-day life.

    • @Badfingerbabe777
      @Badfingerbabe777 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Andrew Brendan I will always wonder about Jeanne Carmen also. I have her book and she goes into some unbelievable wild stories. She has no pictures or proof of a friendship. We will never know. I hope Marilyn had a friend she could be close with. A friend of mine met Jeanne once at a signing and said she was really friendly and funny with the fans. Its not hard for me to believe Hollywood is full of creeps , mob , etc.. so it could have some truth to it. Jeanne did in fact live up the street from Marilyn and dated Frank at one time. I believe Marilyn was murdered.

    • @andrewbrendan1579
      @andrewbrendan1579 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Badfingerbabe777 That is very interesting! I didn't know Ms. Carmen had written a book. In a documentary I once saw one of the people commenting said that Marilyn had "..a very compartmentalized life". (When married to Arthur Miller she had a separate apartment he didn't know about.) Though evidence can be interpreted in more than one way and many people alive at the time of Marilyn's death are now also dead I'm also inclined to believe that Marilyn's death may well have been a murder. Though Marilyn had moved to a new address and had been going through an extremely difficult and public time with her job (situations that can be factors in a suicide) and was also misusing pills and alcohol I still am unconvinced that she chose to die. Maybe, just maybe, an accidental death that was badly handled by the people around Marilyn so it looked worse than it was but considering some of the people Marilyn knew I wouldn't be surprised if her death was a murder.

    • @Badfingerbabe777
      @Badfingerbabe777 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Andrew Brendan I agree, there are too many odd things that night when Marilyn died, there was some sort of cover up, missing phone records different ambulance drivers, maid was washing sheets, a police man saw Robert Kennedy driving out to airport. etc.. I read in Barbara Eden's bio that she meet Marilyn on the set of "Somethings got to Give" barbara was friends with Marilyn's stand in and close girl friend. She said Marilyn said in the months before her death she was being followed, her phone tapped and was afraid for her life. Barbara said Marilyn was very kind to her and she thinks her death was not suicide. No one will know 100% . I think it only adds to her story, and no matter how she died suicide, murder, accident. I love her , its just all so tragic.

      I think Jeanne Carmen has greatly exaggerated her friendship with MM. They were neighbors for a while and might have had a light acquaintance, but Marilyn sought friendships with people of great accomplishment; Truman Capote, Carl Sandberg & poet Norman Rosten to name a few, not Hollywood starlets.

      Even in some movies her voice dips lower
      That's old HOLLYWOOD.
      Images Star dust

    About the voice: We all listened to interviews with MM. This is NOT her voice, clearly. Her voice is no baby voice, its deeper, thoughtful and a voice of a real person . It seems like at has been speeded up quite a bit

    Something I learned maybe 20 yrs ago from a psychiatrist, that when kids are abused, their voices kind of "stop" at that age. I found that interesting, and I'm not sure what the facts are behind it, but Marilyn always sounded so very young, kid like. And perhaps it's bc of the abuse she suffered as a young girl.
    Just a thought.
    I've found it true in other people too. Whether it's a coincidence, I don't know.

      I think that was just her natural speaking voice, gentle and beautiful, with nothing to do with being abused in childhood. There are many people who are victims of abuse but their voices are normal and not childlike, so to speak.

    Interesting to see her in plain Jane clothes and not all dolled up acting casual and relaxed. She was a real person, not just a glamorous starlet. She was also mostly slim and athletic, not the overly curvy or heavy girl she is portrayed as.

    about her voice-- a journalist who knew her said it would change with her moods. he said she could go from little girl, to very strong, to seductive, to grandma (not sure what that means)-- great book, its called conversations with marilyn by Weatherby

    She knew she was beautiful but in a way that she knew there is no such thing as the most beautiful woman and that every person has flaws even though some are idolized. In a way she was the best actress of all time, she played the role of Marilyn Monroe because it gave the public pleasure.

      I saw footage on youtube that showed Marilyn pregnant. I never realized she had gotten that far along. She had a big stomach. 6 to 7 months even. That had to have been a horror for her to lose a child that far along. You know she had guilt from all of the abortions. Jane Russell said in her book a botched abortion kept her from ever being able to have a child. They really messed up women's ability to have kids back then

    Glad I saw this. From what I have read of her I wonder if the her seeing a psychiatrist benefited her at all. Her fear of what happened to her mother and grandmother was a heavy burden. And the addiction to sleeping meds. Such a tragedy. She just wanted to be loved. And she is by so many.
