What a great version of this most excellent song & yeah the bass is killer! Can you Imagine Paul/his music without the trip to Africa influence & incorporation? I can't!
This bones of this song came from Forere Motloheloa, the accordian player on Graceland. Its based on a traditional song he wrote about his home village in south Africa.
I wonder. PAul Simon did write the song, of course. But I woner how much input the other musicians had in the studio at the time of recording GrLAnd album. Let alone when he tours and changes the arrangements.....does Paul tell them exactly what to do, or does he give leeway and make adjustments and suggestions once he hears everyone;s input. I do not know, but I have a feeling he brings people in for their unique sound.
They were treated the same way as the LA studio guys who played on all the hits you loved in the 70s and 80s, and who came with the riffs that made up those songs. This is what studio musicians do, and they're paid well for it.
Why did you decide to cut out the transition from 2nd chorus to bass solo and also the whole percussion solo? Done this fantastic performance a massive disservice. Also, Mark Stewart's here is the best guitar solo I've heard on this song.
What a great song. All the musicians and Paul’s voice is so magnificent. Love this song❤💐⭐️
Nº 1 Songwriter. Period.
Aside from the concert in the park version, this is my favorite live rendering of this song.
this song thrills me! love it!

Try the Central Park video here if you have not already.
I like how this was all composed by one guy.

This version was a betrayal to original inspiration.

There was a pirate radio station in the Uk years ago, you can see about on Fb still but that line reminds me of Lazer 558.
