Don't suffocate your significant other and work with them to figure out a better way to make the relationship work. If they're hurting, they are hurt for a reason. Don't just brush it off or get mad at them for being hurt over something you think is nothing. They have feelings that matter too. And if they want space, give it to them. Sometimes the only way for that space, one might feel, is to end things. Doesn't mean they no longer love you. Just that they want everything to be better but they feel it won't ever get that way. So instead of acting like nothing is wrong and they should be sunshine and daisies all the time, be there for them, be comforting and sympathetic.
Oh, and if you really claim to love someone so much, don't throw that love in the trash within a week or two for someone else. Not saying never move on, but you moving on that quickly goes to show how little love you had, how little things ending affected you.
