To me at least it seems , that he alone is lonely. Not because he can't make friends but because he can't make any real friendships. One's that have emotions and similar interests. One's that have self satisfaction or pleasure. All due to his emotional numbness , he can't have any meaningful relationships. The closest he's gotten is to horikita , because unlike most they have a similar interest. Emotional numbness sucks.

I had lived in a similar environment to kiyotaka but without any stimulation at all , including books , educative tools and entertainment of any sorts. Only myself to talk to , all alone for those years in that white colored dark room.
