Hillcrest is a neighborhood that I brute forced into existence. Topography? Forget it! Bad cul-de-sacs it? Why not! And while I’m VERY tempted to take out the sledge hammer, I think we should try to have a bit more of a gentle touch this time around. We’ll use Move It! to bend the neighborhood to our will, respecting the topography along the way. We’ll also expand the neighborhood, fix the surrounding transportation infrastructure, and repair the fishing village - working to ensure that we don’t have any cul-de-sacing issues in the future.
Series Background: In this short mini-series, we'll strive to give Bluffside Crossing the farewell that is was deprived of, by fixing up our past mistakes and improving things with DLCs and CCPs released since we last opened the save. But the biggest change - we're going to practice what we preach and force Bluffside Crossing to respect the topography. This and all subsequent videos will be VERY fast-paced so that we can get this thing finished before Cities Skylines 2 is released. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did - Enjoy!

We all know you’re stalling to finish Verde Beach, Phil.
You have to let go
It's hard to say goodbye. But it's coming.
@CityPlannerPlays There should be mods that allow for unlimited people and/or nodes, and while yes its a mod itll preserve Verde Beach for you to end on your own accord.
The node and people limit is hard coded into the game essentialy meaning that mods cannot change it.@@just_some_blocks
😭😭😭
Phil on topography: "We need to respect it."
Me on topography: "There it is, boys, take it. -William Mulholland"
An interesting thought from New Zealand, with the two road highways you will often see, one higher up than the other on very steep hillsides, so they don't have to blast out as much rock.
I see this a lot in the US too, just not in Wisconsin lol
Loving these “fix old cities” series, keeps me filled up till ur inevitable episodes for CS2 😊
Hey Phil, just for interest a 12% incline is absolutely destructive on a bike and it would look like a wall on foot. To illustrate the steepest incline in the 2023 Tour de France was an average of 8.4% over 7.4 Kilometers. And beside climbing that hill, the descent would be absolutely terrifying easily reaching 40 to 50 mph an wearing out your break-pads when you reach the bottom.
People also gonna run out of battery on their electric bicycles halfway up the path.
Oops! Will get that fixed off camera! That's one way you can tell I'm a planner and not an engineer
bro just add more gears or walk. you aint glued to the bike or doing a tour
Eh, 12% isn't that bad on foot... I walk partway up an 18% incline on the way to work every day, as well as a few others that are probably about 10-12%. The problem with that path is not just that it's steep... it's also exceedingly long, and the combination of the two is pretty brutal.
The tour got up to 24% this year what are you on about?
Also I'd love to be able to train on that path.
I think there was a missed opportunity of putting a lake on top of the mountain with a river running down the valley next to the back way of entering the fishing village. Could be really cool
This was a pretty remarkable rebuild without losing what was there to begin with - it's awesome to see Bluffside Crossing being sent off like this.
If I may make a recommendation, most highway dividers (if close) are usually concrete barriers and not wood ones. IF a person were to lose control, they would easily come onto oncoming traffic.
Video game
If it's built strong enough out of stout timbers a wooden barrier can keep cars from traversing into a dangerous area. Search for "timber guard rails on parkways".
Not to mention getting a wooden pole to the face 😂
I don't have a fireplace in my home, so for Christmas this year, I'll be watching CCP vids.
Also, just started playing Cities: Skylines recently (Steam sale) and without content creators like yourself, I'd have no clue what to do. Thanks man.

Thank you for being here and I hope you enjoy the game! You're starting with the absolute best version of it, but it's considerably more complicated then it was back in the day!
Bluffside Crossing mulligans and a cup of coffee is a great start on this rainy Saturday morning
Hey Phil!! I loved you sustainable city series, how would you feel about making a solar punk themed city or town?? There’s so much green legislation right now and I think it would be cool to see your take!!
Dropping a 🦮 for engagement and because it’s my Golden Retriever, Mango’s 9th birthday today
At 18:46 there is an office clipping thru the road Love your vids!❤
Add a water to flow near the bridge at 17:24
love that idea!
Always feels nice seeing good ole BC. Feels like I'm visiting my hometown for a little vacation.
This series is awesome, love the relook at old series and the art of making improvements.
I wonder how quickly the Move It mod will show up in CS2.
day one? 🙏
Really enjoy this series, has me going back and improving my early cities.
Your city tour transitions are so satisfying nowadays 💚
I think move it and TMPE are pretty much my favorite mods. BOB is pretty high on the list too but move it and TMPE are my top two.
In India we have so many hill roads and they are so awesome to drive..😍😍
I always had high hopes for doing a build like this with such challenging terrain, but I'd get into it and it would start to feel so overwhelming. Kudos to you for making it work!
ah yes, the purpose of trees in this game, to hide the crimes 😁
appreciate all the before and after shots...must take time to get those for video's!
I remember when you built this. I took a break from watching city skyline content and I can’t believe your coming back to it just as I started watching again. It’s like I never left
Great Video as always!
Your genuine joy when you saw the roads plop down near perfectly made me smile. I gather that you really didn't know if it was gonna work.
Love the Big Lebowski clip!!
Bluffie Crossing needs a little bit of Chuckles' influence.
Oh back to the OG build. I remember watching this during lockdown. Coming back to old cities is so funny, just seeing how bad things were but also how far you've come, its very humbling and rewarding at the same time. Looking forward to seeing CS2 👍
Seeing these perfect cities you create gives me so much joy. I just wanna jump through the screen and walk around. Take a bike ride. See the city!
I always wondered if what happened to to tgat college town years ago never knew i was watching City planner back then
absolute work of art
hey cityplannerplays! I was wondering if it would be possible to do an video overviewing all of Verde beach, Clearwater county, and nicolet bay, things like maps and explanations for people who haven't watched from the start. showing how they all join, all the cities and town in each ect. 😂😅😊
Love these videos
It really does look better
I just listened to your music and its amazing!!
I had no idea the power of move it!!!
I love how bluffside is shaping up!
I was a bit disappointed with the lack of dog parks in the new residential area😂😂😂.
The fishing village episode was my first comment on one of your vids! I was fresh from a mariner career and had lots of nostalgia 😭💚
City Planner has cities that need to be restored
7:32 - this made me jump! I submitted my dissertation yesterday, so I’ve got nothing to do except attend graduation now. Kind of sad but also exciting. Plus it’s great to have my diss off my back!
Move It! functions well to correct the rocks bug that jump off the terrain when you load a save and when you zoom into them.
Reselect the rocks with Move It! and reset their height to Terrain Height. Done. It will help you load Imperatur's or CPP's maps no problem insteand of demolishing the rocks and redoing them yourself.
Move it! has saved my ass from all sorts of issues. Maybe my abilities to build just suck, but I can't seem to build without it at all.
Love your vids ❤❤❤
On the improved switchback multi use pedestrian path up the plateau, on each switch junction?/u-turn i would expect a little plaza with a lot of benches and maybe a bathroom, because that path is just so so so long and climbs a huge elevation.
Plus it makes the path more useable from a real life standpoint
hey just wanted to say I owned the game for almost 1 year and never played it because I couldn't figure it out. but then I found your videos. and I learned so much about the game because of your videos. that I couldn't stop playing. and then decided to start my own channel. your videos have always been a great deal of information and have helped me a great deal. thanks so very much. It's because of you that every time I do my water pipes I think oh City Planner will be mad if I don't make sure these are under the roads lol. Thanks so much for your videos.
Haven't seen the video yet but i'm sure it's great👍
Awww, stream? Don't suppose there's any chance of an edited down version of junction building? I don't often have the time to watch something the length of a full stream :( Love your work!
I likely won't have time to edit it down, but I can look to add some timestamps if that would help! The biggest issue - I didn't record a local version so I'm stuck with a very low-res version if I try to edit it down.
The new area needs some parks and some services like a elementary school and you probably need to place more fire stations all over the build to prevent some of the fires even starting.
Interested to see how mods work in CS2. Based on what I am seeing so far, I am going to be using a bunch of mods again.
Can't wait to see what you build in City Skylines 2
Hi city planner. I'm an urban and regional planning student now, and guess what, was inclined to enroll for the course because I was inspired by you just by viewing your videos. I enjoyed and learned a lot and I thank you for that. In our planning workshop, my group proposed for development of University City in our city. Can you give me recommendations on what planning tool and methods we will be using for development of policy options so that the local government may be able to consider development such University City?
Tossing in that Big Lebowski clip caught me off guard; took me right back to the first time I saw that scene and I nearly lost my coffee.
Would love to see some parks in that new single family development on the hill! Maybe some potential for pocket park trails?
Yes - completely missed both of those and will get some added!
good stuff
Move It! Is such a powerful mod, it helps so much in my builds!
Love the video and the throwback to fixing old towns! I made some pretty ugly stuff in my early days 🤣
I clicked the like button because move it is my favourite tool...or is it?
Biking/walking up that multi-use path up the mountain would be a whole weeks worth of workout for me 😆
Excited to watch this video, just wanted to mention that "University City" immediately makes me think of the U of M Twin Cities :) HUUUUUGE campus. Cheers, midwesterners!
my day has been perfected, and my happiness is immeasurable.
Honestly I feel like it wouldn't be a true CPP video if there wasn't a fire issue.
The resort area would have looked amazing here as well.
@cityplannerplays For the bridge segments going up the side of of the mountain, you could consider using the content creator bridges to make them more of a statement piece, same for the walking path
I hope there is a version of move-It in CS 2. This mod is brilliant!
Quick question when are you doing more reviews of the developer insiders, cause I see they are still releasing information and I was just wondering if you could do a video if not several if they have any information you think we should know
Thank you! 🎣🛥💚
We absolutely HAD to get that fixed for you
I wonder if the bike paths should have a "runaway truck ramp."
I have a challenge for you, try building a city with NO highways.
Is that really a challenge? There are even maps that have no highways but f.e. start with only trainstations
Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I've played... but don't the fire towers need line-of-sight? So the top of hills and higher elevations are better positions? On top of area of effect of course.
Only if you could do this to the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh where Pitt is. I’m tired of walking up massive hills
You should make a video where you test your cities flood defenses! Plop down a water spawner up river and see how your cities fair in a disaster! Then you could make flood defenses!
If you cannot answer this right now I understand. But will the game have a world editor on launch? Thanks for all your work on these videos!!
Surely that pedestrian path way needs a fence on the sides of the cliff
God I love your videos I all ways get lost in thought thinking what people do in your cities and how they live
Would municipalities pay for bridge paths of that size? Wouldn't it be cheaper to follow the terrain a bit more?
I like to move it move it! 🎉
If any university city deserves to be counted most detailed of all time, this takes the cake!!!
9:10 least destructive Robert Moses project
I very much enjoy the famous “Move It!” modification program of the hit 2013 game “Cities: Skylines”!
Bridges are nice and all, but I think a city might prefer to move dirt to create an embankment instead, possibly fortified by a quay wall. Every time I see a bridge over shallow land I can't help but think of America's insane bridge problem: horrific cost overruns, absurd maintenance costs, engineering failures/bribes/negligence, equally horrific replacement costs... yeah.
I'm bridge phobic in 2023.
Mooooove It is the best! 🐮
Are they going to allow you to transfer a citie from 1 to 2
Hey, how do I go about making those cool little cul-de-sac bulbs? Can anyone help me out?
I see the quality of content has leveled up to Hollywood quality with Wilhelm screams. 😂
A nice cable car would be nice.
The thing that always bugs me is all the space between streets and cliffs. Just let it be narrow 😔
That fire hazard map looks like Verde Beach 2 Electric Boogaloo 😅
When will we be getting another episode of city skylines 2? As a late comer to city skylines, I find mods overwhelming. That’s why I’m super excited for skylines 2, that way I’ll be playing vanilla with everyone, and hopefully learn about mods as we go.
Next Cities Skylines 2 video drops on the 27th for all Cities Skylines creators!
Lordkurst nailed it! Wednesday!
What happened to the CS2 city you started? Been waiting for the next videom
I want more benjo❤
I might be the only one, but I felt a real lack of pedestrian connections in the new Hillside development, might worth a shot to add a few paths here or there.
I hope you’ll do a collab with Overcharged Egg in CS2! You two are the best builders!
I love Egg! I hope the stars align on that, too!
@@CityPlannerPlays when I said the same to him he said he’d love to work with Phil :)
Fires... fires again! XD
🔥
🐶 Gimme banjo pics pls
I have been watching your channel for some time now and I’m still so upset I can’t build cities quite as good as yours I’m on console and I have 0 creativity now I know how to build them and have low trafffic and stuff but my city looks so bland compared to those of TH-camrs do you have any tips and suggestions that meaby I can do to my city ?
The what bulbs?
Hmm, wondering Phil from the now, why you dont use Tree Brush, rather than copy pasting?
Hi, I'm planning to buy CS1. Is it still worth buying these days?
Absolutely. The game is fantastic, and there's tons of content. CS:2 will be nice, but it'll probably feel a bit empty at first until updates, mods, and DLCs make it as rich as the current state of CS:1.
@@MortimerSugarloaf I hope they don't pull CS:1 and its mods, assets, and DLCs and disable all gameplay. I think it should still be available and playable in case CS:2 proves to be a dud
