  • I am a 25 year practicing dentist. I was getting headaches, becoming irritable, and my glasses were fogging up with the N95 masks. I searched and found an inexpensive respirator that you can attach to your N95 masks so you can breath again. This is my review and description of the device which you can purchase on Amazon for under $100. Here is the link to buy the newest version. www.amazon.com...

    You should put a cloth over the filter to get better life out of the filter. Instructions tell you to. I got Microfiber sheets used to make mask and filters. And I also cut out a active carbon sheet from pm2.5 filters that are used for cloth mask too.

      Juan, you should not rely on this setup for providing you with N95 protection. This device compromises the integrity of the N95 respirator. If you don't need that level of protection and just want a more comfortable face covering, then by all means, use it. Be safe

    Don't know if your still reading comments. You can recharge and use your mask at the same time by using a portable charger and a USB charging cable. I would think in your situation it would be for last resort. As for the hose attachment you can use a small rubber band to keep the hose a place. Rubber bands are the very small ones used for braids.

    • @barrywilson1842
      @barrywilson1842  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been told that you can use a charger with it by a previous person. The weight of the device in my pocket is plenty. I do not want additional weight in my pocket or a USB cable to get hung on stuff. I am happy with having 3 different ones that I just switch out as needed. You lost me on the rubber band and hose attachment. What were you talking about on that?

    • @onlyone266

      @@barrywilson1842 Sometimes, at least for me, the hose can detach from the mask. I found a very small rubber band keeps it in place. I use this mask to go shopping and handling items can detach the hose. My device goes around the neck. With winter and using a coat the rubber band helps.

      I looks like a 10,000mah battery bank should make this last 9-12hrs pretty easy!
      I need this since the hospital is requiring all staff to wear masks all the time and I work EVS so I have a pretty active job that requires me to breathe a lot. I feel the particles from the paper/plastic masks are bothering my lungs as they fall apart throughout the day. I feel like I have lost 20% of my lung capacity in the last year from wearing these surgical masks all the time. I now get winded just speed walking/mopping like I used to when I was jogged last year before I started working at the hospital.

    Hello,
    This is very interesting and neat. I'm a doctoral studetnt and NIOSH Trainee studing indsutrial hygiene. I wanted to ask if the masks' come with holes already punched in them for the pump attachement, or did you punch the holes in the N95? The reason I am asking is because once a certified FFR (N95-style) is altered in any way, a 95% filtration efficincy cannot be guaranteed. I just want to keep the workforce aware and safe out there! :)

    • @barrywilson1842
      @barrywilson1842  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes with 3 masks. After that you cut a little circle hole in a N95 mask similar to the ones that come with the device. The plastic piece that snaps into the hose goes on the inside of the mask and has about a 1/4" lip on it which seals the hole you make in the mask unless you made the hole too big. If you make the hole correctly I would highly doubt any virus particles have ever snuck through this area on any of them, but yes. If you make the hole too big then I'm sure anything could pass through it.

    Just got mine today!! Thanks for the review. I’m an RN. My problem with mask is not the breathing... it’s the humidity created inside the mask from breathing in it after 2 hours or so. You are so right. The humidity fogged up my glasses and made me so hot that I was getting headaches every day and being quite irritated and short with people. The cool air being blown up into my mask from this filter is such a relief. I did get tired of wearing the strap on my arm recently. So I have rigged a clip onto it so I can now hook it to my belt or clip it to my jacket pocket and get it off of my arm. I wish they would make a belt clip for it. Would be much more comfortable. Anyway, good luck with it. Remember that it will only run for about 3 1/2 hours on the high setting unless you attach it to one of those pocket sized phone battery chargers. I don't do this. I have 3 of the filters and just change them out when the battery goes dead. Thank you for all that you do as an RN during this pandemic. We so appreciate you.

      @@barrywilson1842 Please comment on the original straps that came with the mask. Is it the ear loop type, or the type that wrap around the back of the head? Also, what is that white strap that connects the two ear loops to make it adjustable? I wear glasses and hearing aids so the space between the ear and the head is cramped. Two straps behind the head work better than ear loops. Thanks.

    • @barrywilson1842

      Here are the changes I have made to my device. I cut the holes in the masks on the right side so the unit us farther away from my patients taking in less if the air they exhale and more out of my way. I removed the strap and the rubber pad on the back of the device and hot glued a cloth belt material onto the highest section on the back if the device. Attached to this belt material I have sawn a knife belt clip that I bought off if Amazon for $3. This clip allows me to clip the device to my pants belt or to my jacket pocket rather than having to wear it on my arm anymore. Much more stable and out of way. You will have to ad to your hose to reach this longer distance but much more comfortable. If it is hung on a lab coat I would put it with the unit inside the pocket so if it were to fall off it would fall into the pocket. I made a couple of straps for the masks to get the mask straps off of my ears. One goes onto the back of my head and the other sits on top. No more ear pain. I made these straps from name tag hangers bought at Walmart. You can also use shoe laces. I placed snaps on both ends of tge straps so the straps can be removed and reused on each N95 mask I use. The snap kits are in the craft department at Walmart. Once you place the 1st snap onto the strap you put it onto the mask strap, put the mask on, bring the other end of the strap around your head and put the mask strap to where it pulls tge strap off of your ear. You will place your 2nd snap where it will hold this position. Repeat all steps for the other strap that goes around your head. You must use 2 straps because just 1 will still have tge mask straps rubbing on your ears, just in a different place.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I would recommend hot gluing a cloth type belt onto the back of it after scraping off the black cushion. I sowed a belt clip to the cloth and clip the filter to the inside of my scrub pocket. Much better than the elastic strap going around your arm which gets annoying.

    received my order yesterday of the 4WDKING Rechargeable Electrical Air Purifying Respirator. Thanks to your videos I watched more than a few times I felt comfortable with placing the order for one, I already was using a reusable mask electrical air purifying and there was a difference, mainly because the reusable mask only had 2 fan speeds and the mask was actually small on my face. With the 4WDKING with the disposable masks, my face was covered properly and was wondering how it would feel, because most of those reusable masks have outlet values to them, this didn't so I wondered about that. Didn't take but a couple of minutes into my almost 2 hour walk to feel comfortable and the air pressure was very good (had it on the highest setting). I definitely prefer using this one mainly because the other one was too small for my face, but the air flow pressure was a bonus for this. I had to refer back to your video and go through a few comments, because the instructions has nothing on charging the unit and after reading one of your posts, found that after having 2 solid red lights the unit was fully charged. I was skeptical at first about cutting the hole on the right side, but that was a piece of cake. Yes I had to Gerry rig something to hold the hose like you did with the alligator clip. Thanks for the video and now I'm awaiting my shipment of the Canada 02 to use too. But buying another one 4WDKING probably by next week. Where I live I found a store selling N95 masks for $2.25. My only recommendation would to probably make the hose more stronger feeling. But this is a must have, helped improved my walk big time, because I was constantly getting fresh quality air to breathe.

    Did you have a chance to look at my comment below? Our health and your staff’s health may be at risk if this H13 HEPA filter from Japan does not filter the Coronavirus size particles. Coronavirus is 0.1 micron and this unit is advertised as filtering much larger particles (2.5 micron) at 99.9 percent. The US H13 HEPA filters say it filters 0.1 microns. But this Japan H13 says it filters 2.5! It’s a bit confusing. I emailed the company but have not heard back

    • @barrywilson1842
      @barrywilson1842  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not a representative for the company in any way. I get no money from them or even free goods. If you practice in a hospital of positive Covid-19 patients then this is not the device for you. I'm sure the filter would not block all .1 micron particles. I can also say that a N95 mask by itself won't block all .1 micron particles. There is a large gap all the way around the edges of the mask that allow in all sizes of particles. If you want something that blocks all .1 micron particles then you are going to need a sealed ventilation system. That is not practical for most practitioners. This device works just as well as the mask alone. The difference is we are staying cooler, our glasses aren't fogging up so we can see what we are doing on our patients, and we aren't getting headaches from lack of oxygen. You have the government telling people to wear masks. The masks they wear wouldn't block a .1 micron particle at all, but they help to not spread the virus somehow. I will continue wearing this little filter and feel safer and more comfortable doing so then just the N95 masks. The only guaranteed way to not catch the virus is to stay at home and not venture out. I have patients who depend on me so that's not an option. Good luck and do the best you can in your circumstances to stay safe.

    Thanks for the interesting video. One question, how do you know if this device is safe? Has it been tested by OSHA, CDC, or NIOSH. All I see are the Chinese tests which are the same as KN95 standards. I have a feeling it is only on the pleated filter material, not the entire mask system. But then again, I don't read Chinese. Since this is a positive pressure flow device very similar to what we use in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Units, I understand the principle. But this lacks the head piece which encompasses the entire head and oral-nasal airways. Many dentists also use a similar system since so many aerosols are formed from the spraying water and air. The nice thing about the Broad system is that the batteries are interchangeable. When you run out of battery, just put a fresh recharged one in. They also sell all the flex pipe in two sizes, interconnectors to make it longer as well as the mask flange ($1.50) you pointed out.

    • @barrywilson1842
      @barrywilson1842  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I took one apart. All it is is a battery powered fan that sucks outside air and pulls it through a filter and up to your mask. Not sure what could be unsafe about that. Will the filter stop covid particles? I couldn't tell you. I'm not getting overheated, my glasses aren't fogging up, I'm no longer getting headaches so it is working for me. I have reworked it to ad a belt clip, so it is air that is brought in from farther away from the patients so safer air to breath in that sense. Whether the filters are dense enough I have no idea. But whatever it is it is far better than a N95 mask by itself in my opinion.

      @SilverShadow2LWB 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@barrywilson1842 It would be nice to know if it is safe. Most of my dental friends use the 3M Versflo. Because of the high amount of aerosols created during a procedure from blowing air/water and drilling/grinding they also want an integrated face shield with positive pressure. Another note is that you really want to raise the height of the unit instead of lowering it where it will encompass more gravity fed aerosols. Some commercial PAPR fit behind the neck. Good luck and stay safe.

      Air smelling like plastic hurt their asthma? LOL. What kind of asthma is that? LOL. No I didn't notice any plastic smell but that could be easily fixed by soaking the hose in about any cleaning product and rinsing it out well. Yes you need to reuse their tube and the piece that attaches to it which is inserted inside of the mask and pokes through the hole.

If you use an N95 mask then you are just as safe from the corona virus as you are not using the device. I have installed belt clips onto my devices and I hang them on the inside of my scrub pocket. The devices are inside my pocket so air is pulled through the device away from any people. I get fresh air, my glasses aren't fogging up, and I'm not getting overheated. Not much else I can say. Try searching on YT for 3M respirator masks, also 3M PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator), 3M 6000 series and 7500 respirators, and 3M HF-800 (has a diaphragm speaker). With the half-mask respirator, it needs a NIOSH approved N95 or P100 particulate filter (the numbers 95 and 100 designates how much of the air gets filtered 95% or 100%).
      The PAPR one's are made for those in the industries which deal in places where there are hazards to health, like asbestos, etc. But can also be used in cases where there is a high probability of catching viruses, I assume. Best to research these for yourself though since each one of us have different reasons for using respirators and how to use them properly and safely.

      @travelerwithstyle Good to know and thanks for the information. With your understanding and knowledge, would you know a common way to keep the respirator clean of contaminants after each day of use? At first with my half mask 3M respirator using a NIOSH N95 particulate filter, I thought to just use soap and water but immediately found it wasn't practical because this would imply that with each use I had to remove the filters, thus degrading the seals and putting some wear and tear on the plastic connectors between the seals. Have since used 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect the respirator mask with each use by:
      (1) Wiping the outside plastics with a 70% alcohol wipe
      (2) Wiping the inside plastic with a new 70% alcohol wipe taking care not to touch or disturb the inlet and outlet valve membranes
      (3) With a spray bottle, spray the 'breathing in air side' of the NIOSH N95 particulate filter with 70% alcohol.
      As of writing this comment, have yet to change the paperlike particulate filter from first use 10 months ago. However it has always concerned me if by spraying the filter part with isopropyl alcohol, the side facing out and where the air blows inwards (with concerns and in regards of the Brownian motion and the electrostatics) - Would the 70% isopropyl alcohol disinfectant affect the efficacy of the N95 particulate filter?

    • @barrywilson1842
      @barrywilson1842  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it would work too well for running. The hose bouncing up and down would cause the mask to come off of your face. Plus the filter would not be very stable attached to your arm or clipped to your shirt bouncing around. I think the N95 mask alone would work better while running. I saw an item at Walmart in the work out equipment area that was a device for training that you wear while exercising. I didn't really check it out but that might be a possibility. If the pollution is bad enough then I would recommend the Honeywell half mask MC/P100 respirator mask. The straps would hold it to your face well while you are running and the filters would remove all air pollution. 3M makes one too that I like. 3M model 6502 or 6503 respirator. They do not come with the 3M 6001 filters so you have to purchase them separately. Stay safe.
