Great episode. Matt must have been reading the good book. When called upon by cowboys to say a word when someone’s being buried, he can barely come up with the words. This time he’s right on top of what to say.

As a kid I listened to Gunsmoke on the radio every weekend but I think I missed this episode, anyway I don't remember it. I did see it on the tv show, which I also liked but didn't follow as closely as the radio show. I remember the story, it made a powerful impression on me at the time.

When people twist God's perfect and holy Word to mean something it was never intended to mean, there is trouble.

This is one of the rare occasions where I very strongly disagree with Marshall Dillon's philosophy on law enforcement. His inexcusable inaction in response to the religious zealot's unlawful imprisonment and torturing of the cowboy in the opening scene, led to the other crimes being committed. His rationale that the nutter wouldn't learn from any arrest was just ridiculous. 4 Jun 2024

    Ahh, yes…
This was broadcast at a time when those who came here from other countries did so with the sole intent of becoming an American citizen & adapting to American civilization.
They wanted & expected nothing more than a second chance and they were willing to risk their lives for a chance at the American dream.
They were eager to learn & speak English, gain public acceptance and respectfully acknowledge & obey all of our laws in exchange for the opportunities which we provide. In todays America, we gladly accept anyone, regardless of their intent or motivation.
While there are CERTAINLY many (probably most) who enter our country with the best of intentions, our current administration has chosen to completely forgo any sort of screening or background checking in favor of opening the proverbial flood gates to anyone & everyone. This willful denial of the risks associated with this policy is not seem in ANY OTHER COUNTRY in the world and will certainly lead to the rapid weakening of our once great, proud and trusting country.

      1. Children shouldn’t be anywhere near this channel as Gusmoke has always been an adult show. Prior to its creation Western radio shows were juvenile affairs. This show was created to bring the harsh realities of life in this time period while still being entertaining.
      2. It must be a long time since you were a child if you don’t know and use profanity.
      3. I’ve been seeing your comments on these episodes and you have an extremely heavy handed way of addressing profanity that riles a body. It’s like you haven’t learned anything from Matt in listening to these episodes. There is a way to talk to people that calms a situation and there’s a way that invites conflict.

Actually, Saturday is the Sabbath Day, the 7th day, Sunday is the 1st day of the week which Constantine changed, (And had no power or authority to do so!) Sunday was the Roman pagan day of worship, so when Constantine told the Romans that they were converting to Christianity, he decided to mix the Roman pagan traditions and rituals with Christianity, so instead of worshiping on two days, he declared Sunday, (the pagan day of worship) to be the Sabbath, which God NEVER gave His authority to change!

At first glance, the question “What is the Sabbath day?” seems fairly simple. According to Exodus 20:8-11, the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, on which the children of Israel were to rest, in remembrance that God created the universe in six days and then “rested” on the seventh day. However, due to the misunderstanding and misinterpretation of some Christian groups, the meaning of the Sabbath day rest has been confused.
Some Christian groups, such as the Seventh Day Adventists, view the Sabbath as the day of worship, the day on which Christians should attend church/worship services. While these groups typically also teach that no work is to be done on the Sabbath, the concept of the “day of worship” is sometimes more emphasized than the “day of rest.” Originally, the Sabbath was a day of rest, and that purpose was retained in the Mosaic Law (Exodus 16:23-29; 31:14-16; 35:2-3; Deuteronomy 5:12-15; Nehemiah 13:15-22; Jeremiah 17:21-27). Under the Old Covenant, sacrifices were made daily at the tabernacle/temple. The “worship” was continual. And there were special commands given to Israel regarding a “sacred assembly” held on the Sabbath (Leviticus 23:3; cf. Numbers 28:9). The keeping of the Sabbath was the “sign” of the covenant between Israel and the Lord (Exodus 31:13).
The New Testament records Jews and converts to Judaism meeting in synagogues on the Sabbath (Mark 6:2; Luke 4:31; Luke 13:10-16; Acts 13:14, 27, 42-44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4). Obviously, with no work being done on the Sabbath day, the Sabbath day would be the ideal day to have organized worship services. However, the New Testament does not command that the Sabbath be the day of worship. The church is not under the Mosaic Law.
The church is under the New Covenant, established by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible nowhere describes Christians setting aside the Sabbath day as the day of worship. The only Scriptures that describe Christians in any sense meeting on the Sabbath are in fact pointing to evangelistic efforts at Jewish synagogues, which met on the Sabbath day. Acts 2:46 records the early Christians meeting every day. The Bereans studied the Scriptures every day (Acts 17:11). Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:2 both mention Christians meeting on the first day of the week. There is no evidence in the New Testament that the apostles or the early Christians in any sense observed the Sabbath day as the prescribed day of worship.
Traditionally, Christians have held their primary corporate worship services on Sundays, the first day of the week, in celebration of Christ’s resurrection, which occurred on a Sunday (Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2; Luke 24:1; John 20:1). It is important to understand, though, that Sunday is not the commanded day of corporate worship, either. There is no explicit biblical command that either Saturday or Sunday be the day of worship. Scriptures such as Romans 14:5-6 and Colossians 2:16 give Christians freedom to observe a special day or to observe every day as special. God’s desire is that we worship and serve Him continually, every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday. Only because MEN have corrupted and used it for evil and their own selfish intent! Unfortunately, like many others, you’ve painted all religions with the same brush, but the true Word of God, Jesus Christ, IS the way to Heaven. The path to Heaven is very narrow and few who find it, and wide is the path that leads to destruction and many who find it! Satan is the ruler of this world, (which is very evident) and he created many false religions to confuse and discourage people!

No, that’s what you’ve been deceived into believing. God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit are all very real and very much alive, and so is the evil one! The Romans and many arrogant rulers throughout history have declared exactly what you did, and God’s Word has only spread further and further, just as He said it would! Every prophecy over the past 6000 years has happened EXACTLY like God said it would and is still happening! The Roman Catholic Church/Papacy is the beast system which is demonic and will be destroyed! There are many false teachers/churches out there which Satan has created, but there is a true remnant church that follows the laws of God and lives according to the teachings of Christ! As Christ said, “My people perish for lack of knowledge!” And, “Pride goes before destruction!”

Don’t send me biblical quotes I want evidence that god exists as clear as science. In fact save your breath because you can’t!
