    I've put the species names in the English captions if you're interested (although I'm still not sure what species of gull they are). As always, captions are open to community translations if you fancy being extra altruistic :)

      At 5:05 you have Black-headed Gulls.

    • @r.sulfuratus
      @r.sulfuratus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the gulls in this video are herring gulls. There are some black-headed gulls which you can generally distinguish by their much smaller size (e.g. barely any larger than the lapwings at 3:10) There is an immature lesser black-backed gull at 7:00 (much thinner bill than the herring gulls) and I believe there's another one at 7:08 due to the dark greater coverts, but I'm not sure on that one.

      I edited out a massive section where Ellen was telling me all about the bird watching bits in Red Dead Redemption! I never knew there was so much ornithology in a shooting game!

    • @Andre_the_Lion
      @Andre_the_Lion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SallyLePage I found that all of the birds you can see (and shoot) in Red Dead Redemption 2 region of Lemoyne (which seems to be roughly modeled around the US state of Louisiana) are also ones I have seen in Florida. Coincidentally, bitterns are very easy to see here, because our wetlands are much more green.

    I usually roll my eyes and skip the ad part of a sponsored youtube video. But the "Yes! I'm getting paid!" part made me go you know what... good for you! I always tend to forget the financial side of youtube videos and how hard it must have been for content creators during this pandemic.

    • @SallyLePage
      @SallyLePage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thanks. It's one of the reasons I'm so blunt about disclosing ads - not only is it a legal requirement that I say if a company is paying me, but also I don't think creator should feel ashamed of being paid to make the stuff they love.

      People must be running into just a goose having a really bad day. We have tons of them in Illinois and I've never been chased. I did have one his, they had their young with them and I had gotten a little close. Other than that, there is sometimes no way to not get close to them here when walking certain places.

They've decided that it's too much trouble to migrate, so they just hang out here year round and churn out more and more geese. Loved this video. I'm an avid birder in the southern USA. I've seen every heron, egret, ibis, spoonbill, and stork in North America, but I still have not seen either of the two bittern species!
    I love shovelers too. ❤ Interesting about the teals and the color. The bird you call a teal is called a green-wing teal here. We also have blue-winged and cinnamon teal, both of which have both teal and blue (above the teal) on their wings. I don't even bother trying to tell the females apart of those two species.

    Well this was an unexpected suggestion from TH-cam. Cormorants are a particular favorite of mine to watch at my favorite beach on the Monterey Bay. So between them, wetland birds (a particular favorite in general) and Ellen, I'm doing pretty good here. And have seen American Bitterns more by accident then anything. Don't think I've ever gotten one on camera.

    8:19 what the frick is that? that doesn't look like any british duck, the closest thing it looks like is an egyptian goose, which isn't native to the uk but there are breeding populations in london from escaped birds, however it's not a normal egyptian goose that's for sure, id guess it was a hybrid between an egyptian goose and maybe like a ruddy shelduck or something
