    I have owned one of these, early 2000s, the best RV I have ever had and I had plenty. Solid, bullet proof, warm in cold climates and utterly reliable. Only problem, a little heavy, you need a good truck to support it. You made a great choice.

    You can never go wrong with a bigfoot camper. They are built like tanks. Grant and his crew up there do a great job of building campers.

    NO SLIDEOUTS! Excellent decision + you've eliminated the source of several major problems that are common with "slideouts".
    I think most people that initially buy a camper with slideout(s) eventually come to realize the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages.

    Go with a navy performance fabric. It will complement the cabinets. Then you can go with a navy/khaki decor. There are so many materials/pillows/accessories in that color scheme. Get a fabric that is soft to sit on, and has a slight variation color (it is a solid but not a solid.). Then redo the head board & valances with the dinette color. You can go to any store and get a bed in a bag in a navy theme. The stores are stocked right now because of kids heading back to college.

    You got my favorite of the bigfoot layouts! Love the 270 degrees of windows in the rear living area and the separation of space provided by the middle bath. Having a distinct bedroom and living area is hard to do well in such a small space but they managed. It's also amazing how big the kitchen is you have more counter space then a lot of travel trailers.

    I am amazed at the size of the bathroom and counter top space this camper has. We have a 2004 Lance 1161 and even though it has a slide, the camper can be fully used without sliding it out. There as you know are pros and cons to most layouts, but honestly I don't think we have much more room than you, not having a slide. I am impressed and can't wait to see all you will be doing with it.

    I'm on the same page I bought a 94 series 3000 right before the pandemic hit. For the same reasons the dry bath no slides fantastic construction better price. Also thinking about putting a composting toilet in and then taking the black water tank out and changing that to a freshwater tank. I found a sink faucet for the galley at granite expo in Emeryville that is flexible and it's brilliant. Also planning on changing over to lithium iron phosphate I have 300 watts of solar on the roof and not carrying the generator. Have an older air conditioner would love to change it to a reversing unit so that it can also be heat. Truck is a 1994 f350 7.3 manual 4x4 dually crew Long bed. Almost finished with the suspension modifications an ongoing project. Cheers from California Duncan

    you are talking about adding AC, see if you can find a small mini split, the outside unit could mount on the truck bed, tucked nicely under the side of the camper

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did use a mini split for a while when we first got the truck camper.

  • @chuckhelson3744
    @chuckhelson3744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned that your overall height is 12 foot. If you mount a roof mount air conditioner, your overall height will jump to at least 13’ 3 “. My suggestion is to get a unit that can mount on the truck bed Will take some mods, but will be work out better for maintenance and you won’t have to worry about knocking it off the roof on any low branches.

  • @lrobie123

    Looking forward to seeing the completed camper. Of all the research I've done on Truck Camper manufacturers whom mass produce truck campers and are not building a $600,000 Truck Camper, the Canadian manufacturers are the best all around designed camper for hot and cold weather in my opinion.

  • @hermes6587

    Very nice truck camper, would be my first choice, can’t wait to see all the mods you have planned. With regards to the compost toilet, we have had an Airhead for 4-years and very happy with it. Airhead is now offering a pipe fitting they can install in the bottom of the liquids tank to connect to a waste tank. I just did this and it has Ben nice not to have to dump the liquids tank daily.

    • @MortonsontheMove

    After your Go North series we decided to try a truck camper as well. My wife and I have been living in our truck camper fulltime since the end of April. We love it! The advantages far outweigh any disadvantages. There are numerous changes and improvements we've made to our rig however, the absorption refrigerator sucks at keeping things cold. We are looking at 12 volt compressor fridges for an upgrade. Are you considering swapping out your fridge for a 12 volt compressor model? If so what brand?

    Separett toilets look nice but it's $1,049, has nice features but moveable parts that look easily breakable.
    Sun-Mar GTG is my favorite at $696, looks clean and sturdy.
    Though personally I'd rather make my own using a $50 portable toilet and rigging my own diverter pipe and exhaust fan all for less than $100 and save $600+. I would divert urine straight to the gray/black tank so you don't have to dump urine every few days. The pipe will also open up more room for solids so you don't have to dump that as often too. Urine mixes with gray water to dilute it and it's perfect fertilizer for nature assuming you're using earth friendly soaps and cleaners.

    It's one way I always thought of going to get an inexpensive expedition vehicle. And boxes in the side would make it look good as well ad add storage. But, we have a dry bath in our Winnebago View now and I wish we had a wet bath. As a result there is no room in front of the toilet and the shower isn't big enough for me. It would be better if the two had been combined and shared a common floor space so both would have more room.

    What has your experience been like in urban / suburban / tourist areas as far as parking and overnight sleeping ? I have traveled a lot in vehicles that were fairly stealth with almost no problems in busy areas. I like this setup, but i’m a bit skeptical about being able to get away with overnighting in busy areas. You can obviously get away with more than travel trailers and fifth wheels, but it still seems like there could be limits to that…

    I have two questions for you, if you don’t mind sharing. I also have a year 2000 3000 Bigfoot. Mine has the left-hand slide. These models were notorious for leaking across the back between the bumper and the back of the camper. How have you sealed yours? second question is in the remodel video. You talk about a wireless amplifier used for music. I’m curious what model you bought. Thanks.

    It will be very interesting to watch you outfit and upgrade your overland rig. Can’t wait for future videos! One observation. We had a similar 2000 year model Samsung microwave that two years ago we discovered had been subject to a recall in 2003 for a fire hazard. Even though we did not have any issues and it continued to work, we contacted Samsung in 2019 and they reimbursed us $250 as long as we showed photos of the model / serial number and the cord cut from the microwave. Might be something to check on the Samsung website to see if yours is included in the recall. Keep up the great work and be safe!
    * NHTSA Recall No. 04E031
    Samsung Microwave Oven Models MR1031WB, MR1032BB, MR1033SB, MR1352BB, and MR1351WB
    On approximately 117,157 models of Samsung microwaves manufactured between May 2000 and September 2003, there is a defective membrane panel. An electrical short can occur, causing the oven to activate without pressing any key pads. This could result in excessive heat, smoke or possibly a fire.
    Samsung will notify its customers and repair the panel. In the meantime, consumers should unplug their microwave, if possible. If the consumer is unable to unplug the microwave, they should leave the microwave oven door ajar until the membrane panel is replaced. Consumers should never use the microwave oven for storage or leave any towels, paper, cloth or other products in the microwave after use. Owners may contact Samsung at 800-932-3837 or the National Highway Traffic Safety AdministrationÕs Auto Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236. There is a recall on older Samsung microwaves. They start up without turning them on. Not an issue unless you are plugged into shore power and you have something in your microwave. Ours started by itself in the middle of the night. We had bread stored in the microwave. Scary.
    Call Samsung. We did and they gave up 200.00 towards a new microwave.

    I'm working on my plans now for a truck bed camper but I want a pass thru from crewcab to the camper.
    Your spare should go on the roof instead of added that extra weight of huge wheel/tire on back

      Thanks for the suggestion, but we use the rooftop space for our solar panels. We hope you're able to find a truck camper you like with the pass thru. Best of luck! :)
