- Kevin and I finally explored the Coiled Cobra section of the Dan River. Putting in at Claudeville and taking out at Jessups Mill, we wandered 11 miles through beautiful Virginia and North Carolina.
water levels : 255 cfs / 2' on the Fransisco gauge

I really enjoyed how quiet this trip was to watch (overall), so relaxing. Thanks Pete.
Thanks mountainhobbit1971!
Looks like a great run. I really love late winter kayaking on a cloudy day like that.
Im right there with ya Mike!
Nice place to take a new paddler!
Indeed Troy!
Nice to see the Katana 10.4 get out there.
yes, I always enjoy my time in the Katana. Such a good boat.
Days like this are my favorite! Out with a buddy exploring a new place! Good one, Pete!
I agree Wes!
Looks like a nice section of river to paddle. Has a little of everything. Some camping spots too? Lots of shenanigans happening two boys having fun on the river.
for sure Doug! We had a blast.
For a shorter run you can put in at Flippin Rd. And if you're going to camp down through there, take your fishing rods. There are trout on that section. That would make for a good supper.
Yes we talked about that as a possibility but wanted the whole experience. I'll have to bring the rod next time!
Great video
Thanks IA!
Man, really hope to get on of those Katanas used here soon! Looks like it'd be a great boat for the French broad in a lot of sections.
Do it! Such a good boat!
I will hopefully get on this part of Dan River. Doesn't look too intimidating. I've mostly been kayaking lakes and easy going creeks. I'm new to Kayaking but have been canoeing for years. I've just been having fun learning and feeling how my kayak feels and reacts to me. I have a Remix XP10. I love it.
Sometimes its nice to just have a relaxing paddle that includes a few little rapids.
For sure!!!
More like the slithering cobra run? Any day kayaking is a good day. Cheers
What a weird name for that rapid! LOL.
Hey Pete! Can you tell me the CFS for that day???
Love your video!

Going right on the cobra is a decent line too. Good little boof drop
We saw that and almost ran back up for a second lap. Next time!
Fun !! 🙂 -- Bill M.
Thanks Bill!
Hi 👋 everyone
Nice meeting you! Crazy with all the shenanigans on those AA planes these days!!!
I think 57:20 is the ancient Sauratown village site
wow, thats cool.
Nice little run, made more dangerous without vials of Cobra antivenom! : ' )
Except for the Cobra section, it looks to be do-able in a more standard Rec boat? Would you agree, Pete?
Is there a reasonable way to portage around the Cobra, versus swamping a more flat water oriented Rec boat?
LOL! and yes! a rec boat could def get down this stretch. I would recommend to portage on the right to avoid the coiled cobra rapid.
When does the Green River revival come out
Im shooting for this coming weekend
I am local in Burlington, NC. I am looking for fun outdoors
Right on Ryan!
I am looking for local action sports enthusiasts who want to help expand by providing some useful tips tricks and techniques for getting into the water with entry level experience. Please consider myself as a beginner but have athletic training in other action sports. I would like to join you guys someday. Thanks
What was the CFS Flow Rate? I know that section can become unrunable if the flow is too low.
It is in the thumbnail...2' 255 cfs

I live in Stokes County & have been on the Dan a lot from Harts access to the Green Heron & on to Moratock Park, but haven't been able to catch friends & CFS's at the right time to do anything up from there. Jessup's Mill is my next goal to tick off the list.
