- My method of stealthing the Nest.
Beware: potential spoilers. If you do not want to know how the Nest works and want to preserve the terror and mystery, I suggest you do not watch this video or read any further in this description.

Ok. So here goes:
This method prevents the Alien from knowing you are ever there.
There are three scripted Alien appearances. In each appearance, the Alien goes for a little stroll and then upvents. To deal with this, we just leave it alone, stay out of it's sight and let it do what it wants. Easy enough.
But there is a second, dynamic Alien that becomes active after you set the Alpha Core to overload. But it remains in the vents ("backstage" to use the game's internal terminology) until it hears a noise from the player ; running, bashing, firing a weapon or using a device. On hearing a noise the Alien will drop and hunt for you. And it will continue to drop and hunt for you for the rest of your time in the Nest. So the aim is to not let the dynamic Alien drop in the first place.
However, this is where the Facehuggers come in. There are several scripted Facehugger events that are intended to force you to use your weapons and in so doing cause the dynamic Alien to drop. This video demonstrates how to deal with these Facehuggers without making a noise.
In fact, there is only one Facehugger you end up having to flame, and that is on your way out anyway, limiting your exposure to the dynamic Alien to almost nothing.
This almost entirely eliminates the level of risk in the Nest. You can quite happily wander round and loot everything you can up until you activate the Beta Core. After I plant the Molotov, I craft a new one and then go looting to replace the items used.
If you choose to explore though, do NOT go near any unopened eggs after the Alpha Core has been activated, because egg = Facehugger = kill = Alien = bad day in the Nest.

Yea I usually just dump flamer on the face huggers and their eggs lol. I do usually compelet the game with over 600 flamer fuel though so

I've played the game only once and I had like 800 fuel, after the alien pulled me up the vent.
Even on Nightmare, if you play it right you can finish the game without pressing the trigger on a Xenomorph at all. I think a lot of people view it as a weapon when in reality it functions like a get out of jail free card and should be used much more sparingly than any other resource in the game, aside from molotovs.
Yeah, when I played Nightmare, my first use of the flamethrower was right by the elevator at the end of the nest.

I'm thinking a flashbang would suffice as an alternative to molotov or pipe bomb. It wouldn't force an upvent, but gives you the time needed.

Took down the nest in 5 minutes with a single flamethrower puff....I quit for a year after entering the nest and only beat it then after loading up and realizing I had max flamethrower ammo: I burned my way through.

Those distant screams of people trapped in the nest. So scary. I wish they'd have some live people throughout the nest, maybe some with face hugger still attached. Would be creepier

I was disappointed we never came across a live cocooned host and have chestburster pop out at us.
I remember when i was down there and hid in that one locker near the objective. I was scared af. I still dunno how i managed to complete the game, but it was one kind of a ride.
The morale of the story is: Hide in lockers and type on keyboards will keep ya safe from facehuggers.
This game is great but so terrifying for me.
Can't get over the fear of Gigers creature
The nest is a bizarre stage, because weirdly I found it easiest on Nightmare mode. The alien didn’t show up once apart from the scripted parts where you come back through the yellow doors after the first set of pulls and when it walks by the tunnel as you come back from starting the generator. I had the hardest time in the hive on novice, which I played after nightmare just to see how easy it was, the alien was far more present in the nest in novice mode, it kept dropping down and hanging around looking for me.
The Alien is more predictable on Hard and Nightmare. On Novice he's all over the place.
But on either difficulty, what is shown in this walkthrough is solid. The three scripted Aliens always appear in the same places and undisturbed, do the same things. And not making noise (helped by despawning the facehuggers), avoids the one dynamic Alien there is from dropping ... until the end when it's too late anyway.

It’s pretty easy if you know what you’re doing, you get killed instantly on any difficulty from the Xenomorph unless if you have plenty of resources to use against it like flamethrower fuel or Molotovs. But it’s very scarce on nightmare mode along with pretty much everything else which is why I love it, it can really give you the most realistic experience compared to all of the other difficulties.
So true! I replayed nest 3 times on Novice and when AlienS shows up they NEVER leave.
1 jump in vents and 1 struts around or even both keep searching.
17 mission was much easier on novice though while on hard Xeno never gave me a break.
I am doing my first playthrough on hard right now and I feel like Alien is not that agressive or observant. So long as I crouch all my way, it almost never drops down aside from scripted drops, like when you complete objectives. I also feel like it is pretty blind, So many times it looked at me in the eye within 2 meters but did not see me because of a crate or table. I am on Mission 11 and died to Alien like only 9 times. Honestly speaking, Androids are giving me a harder time.
After I am done with hard, I will then rush through the game on Novice for no death run. I wonder if I am gonna have harder time after reading this comment.
@@justwatch7091 After you realign the dish and come back to comms the alien is an absolute nightmare, just before you see Ricardo face hugged. On Nightmare the alien is relentless.
Nice! This section was annoyingly difficult on the PS3 when I played years ago. I kept getting hung up on environmentals or had to make noise by killing face huggers. The despawn trick is great if I play again.

Damn Guys!!! I honestly can't watch this!!! It reminds me when I watched Aliens for the first time... Aged 15... By myself... At 3am... I was totally stressed out and, when Ripley went off to go find Newt in the nest, I had to call it a day!!! 🤣😅😂
I managed to get through the film the next day, in pure daylight and with the rest of my family buzzing around me 🤪 But the psychological damage was already done... Obviously!
Oh yes. I had a similar experience which is why I believe I'm such a huge fan of alien today. Lol
played this game on the nightmare difficulty and came to this area thinking it would be the most aids thing in the whole game....made it out without dying evan once
I believe you get a Trophy for that.
Yeah it’s easy and manageable to not die at all if you know what you’re doing and what to expect.
Do it on nightmare mode, not sure what difficulty you were playing on but it’s a whole other level. Sometimes I get through it without dying once but mainly because I know what I’m doing and what to expect, but it also can be troublesome at times. It’s the real experience with limited resources, hard is alright too but nightmare is the best to play on if you’re really looking for a challenge.
In the video, it's Hard difficulty. But it works just as well on Nightmare. In my Nightmare speedruns, I wouldn't bother with planting the molotov to cover my exit as I can cause the Alien to delay dropping at the exit and fend it off without using any fuel if it does happen to drop and thus save the molly for later in the run.

It hasn't been patched out; there have been no updates from Creative Assembly for many a long year.
I think what may have happened to you is that the facehugger failed to lock onto you before you used the terminal (I presume this is in the Alpha Core area). This is one of the reasons that on the way to the Beta Core area, for instance, I put in the instruction to wait until you see the facehugger before climbing in the locker. So the hugger has long enough to lock onto you, so that the despawn will work.
An alternate hypothesis is that maybe you strayed too close to the nearby egg, inadvertently triggering it and so it was a different hugger that got you.
Also, all sorts of strange things can happen in this game, some of which can be caused by differing PC specifications.

you can use the maintenance jack to melee the facehuggers and they won't alert the Xenomorph
I'm afraid the Alien does hear you use the maintenance jack on huggers. That's why I despawn the second one by climbing in the locker. I want to keep the dynamic Alien backstage and unaware of my presence in the Nest.
The only weapon that is completely silent is the Stun Baton and that is tricky to use on huggers, though it can be done. You have to zap them mid jump.
Using the locker to despawn that second facehugger in the corridor is easy for most players to do.

@@baldrickstrousers344 no it literally does not that how i've killed all facehuggers on Nightmare difficulty even with alien stomping around. if you miss however it will hear the impact. more so i don't use the explosive to fend off the alien at the last part... best peace of advice for dealing with alien is pushing foward steadily and safely. the less time you linger in an area the less times AI sends the Xenomorph to hunt you down. Think of the Alien as a mechanic to push you forward in a level.
@@3eowvlf Firstly can I ask where you did this with the hugger? if it was M17, the hugger in the habitation area where you pick up the keycard by the dead body then the alien cannot drop at that point as he is locked backstage at this point of the mission. If it was in fact in the nest then chances are you got very lucky as jack kills of any sort, hugger, human are not silent. Only the stun baton is silent. Also if you happen to be playing on console then the AI does have some differences from that on PC, as I have run both so I have seen first hand how things are very different, some of the speedrun strats Ive tried on console do not work, but work perfectly on pc. I would also like to bring to your attention that Baldricks has spent countless (100's) hours in nightmare, working on 100% speedrun routing and strats and has found and taught the speedrun community a wide range of things that we did not know prior to his discovery. No offense is meant but unless you have a similar depth of knowledge and understanding of the game that speedrunners do I would highly recommend not telling people potentially incorrect information based off of a casual playthroughs. Both Baldricks and I currently hold WR in the game, believe us when we say Jack kills are not silent, you got lucky.
@@NoxExodus play on PC i've beaten Nightmare several times(lost count of how many) and all huggers i come across i've always used the jack and its never gotten the attention of the Xenomorph and i mean both when Xenomorph is in Vents and stomping around. i have 200+ in nightmare difficulty i dont use lockers or hide under desks simply line of sight and no crafts. So while i'm not a speedrunner i do have a pretty solid understanding of the game. Not sure what i did different but i never attracted the aliens attention.
If you're going to melee a facehugger with the maintenance jack, do it while standing, it's a longer distance that the facehugger must use to get to your face, so if you're crouching, it might reach your face before you hit it. Which means game over.
It also alerts the xenomorph and you also take damage due to the acid blood.

I literally spent a day in the Nest figuring out how it works and working out a reasonably foolproof method of stealthing it. It's not as fast as the usual yolo speedrunning strat, but it is super reliable.

This is my 3rd time playing (beating) the game and each time i get to this point..I HATE IT. Terrifying. watching this walk thru was so satisfying.

OMG. Just played this part last night and blasted away merrily at the face huggers causing the alien to constantly drop. I died soooo many times and had no idea the face huggers could be despawned and that the alien was scripted. Mostly 😂
The nest super creepy but I think what really amps up the fear is that you can hear sounds of the Queen. While we never see it, you can definitely hear audible screams of it indicating that it resides in a different chamber somewhere inside the nest.

I never realized it before but you can hear people screaming when you activate the 1st reactor core
alittle extra tip:
I was so stupid and misplaced the molotov
so what i did is: i moonwalked to the Elevator and the moment it gave chase fried it with the flamethrower
worked perfectly
Even better: when you leave the beta core and are passing the junction (about 4:12 in this vid), run and make a lot of noise. Make the alien drop as you enter the last tunnel. When you exit the tunnel, run instead of walking all the way to the elevator. That way when you get to the exit corridor, he rarely manages to upvent and make it over to drop to chase you and so you can escape in the elevator. That saves you a molotov for later in the game.
But if he does manage to drop there in the exit corridor, just turn round to face him and hold out the flame thrower. Don't flame him. Wait until he goes into his flinch animation (he half turns, and brings his arm up across his body). That gives you time to press the elevator button. Saves flamethrower fuel. Especially valuable in Nightmare.

I don’t understand the comments on this video. The nest is literally the easiest stage in this game on any difficulty. If you haven’t figured out the mechanics by this point of the game there is no hope for you.

I do not believe this is Hard Mode, looks like normal mode. But still, a good run.
The method shown works on all difficulties. In the video it is Hard mode.
This section was ironically easier than the beginning-mid of the game like in the Medbays.
Also depends what difficulty you’re playing on, you can easily speed run through mission 5 with the first real encounter with the Xenomorph even on nightmare mode, because he can’t come after you when he’s in his spawning animation but if you don’t then it’s way more difficult without a doubt. Mission 6 is a bit trickier however as you can’t just run through the whole level as far as I’m concerned.

That can happen if you're quick enough getting out. This is intended for the casual player. If you're braver, you can forgo planting the Molotov and threaten the Alien with the flamethrower while backing toward the elevator (just aiming, no flaming), that will put the Alien into a "flinch animation" (in which he half turns and draws his arm up across his body). While he's stuck in that animation, it gives you a few seconds to press the elevator button and escape.

Back here after almost a year going back through the game on nightmare. This is still one of the best walkthroughs.
Dude this level was so gross, I knew what to expect but i still felt a bit paralyzed by the environment and how aggressive the Xenomorph was on this level. I'm playing thru on Normal (sue me lol) and Steve was on my ass the whole time this level.
Yep. This is almost like the final battle in which the game puts the player and the Alien toe to toe. The level design and scripting tries to force you to have to deal with the Alien directly.

In the Alpha Core, I presume. I suspect you got too close to the egg that is against the wall on the left when moving to the first lever. Instead of moving directly toward the first lever, take a little dog-leg to the right to keep your distance from the egg on the left. Or destroy the egg with your shotgun as I did in the video.

I stopped playing at the nest around 2016 bc the facehuggers are too much like spiders and they trigger my arachnaphobia so badly 😂
I'm determined to beat this game tho so I got myself a copy after all this time and I am going to play through the entire thing again. This video will be my saving grace

Yes. All devices. When you have the device selected, a tip appears in the bottom left of the screen indicating which control to hold to place an item.

We think the devs programmed it this way to avoid huggers camping outside the locker you are hiding in and creating an unavoidable instadeath situation when the player exits the locker.

0:47 no need to shoot that egg. shoot second one if you want the loot
Shooting the egg is optional. But it is safer for most casual players to do so. I did fail to mention that if you don't shoot the egg, you should take a dogleg path to the first lever away from the egg, so as to avoid triggering it to hatch. In a speedrun, I don't shoot the eggs as there's no time to loot.
