Oh My God! The first 10 minutes literally described my religious family, who have not been happy with me not being religious, no matter how successful I am in my career and in my life. It is very hard for me to even type this without crying so much as they are my parents but at 36 years of age I constantly have to prove to them that I am a good person. This is crazy! For me, you are talking about my ex and my mother. Only, they didn't use shiny objects to keep me, they used guilt. My mother is manipulative and extremely draining, while she subtly demands for this to be done or that to be done (I work 6 days a week and my one day off she has a list of errands that usually takes me 5-6 hours) but then she apologizes for taking up my only day off, she then continuously bemoans that she can't walk (she can when it serves her but if it's not for her she has all these aches, etc.) and carries on about all the medical worries (she's a hypochondriac). Just a few days ago, I realized she's been using my emotions to manipulate me. She can and is able to do things, she simply chooses not to. She also uses my dad as a manipulation against me. He's more social and more talkative now that I live here, what would they do if I moved out, etc. I see the light now... I actually called her out last night, 1/18 about her not even putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher - I work anywhere from 10-15 hour days and leave a clean kitchen to come into a kitchen piled with dirty dishes. The dishwasher is empty or has dirty dishes and she can set them all over the counter but not open the door to put them inside the dishwasher? Then I clean and cook and clean and repeat the cycle and she was wondering why I might be a bit snippy after running all her errands etc. I've already decided I'm moving out when I find a place and have my resources. I had to take my parents in out of necessity but they are very manipulative, always taring me down and telling people i'm no good, and I can't do nothing good in their eyes. They don't want to go into an elderly home, but its time cause they are very needy and fysically not able to be on their own any more, so for me, it would be a blessing if they would move into an elderly home.
