    If you want to defend yourself against a grappler or wrestler, you can't just simply practice some techniques a couple of times and think you are fine. Do you think wrestlers compete to people who don't know how to block agianst takedowns? They still take people down who trained for years to not get taken down.

    As a wrestler with eleven years of varsity experience (as well as five years of tae kwon do), I will say that the best defense against a wrestler is to avoid getting close. At close range, a wrestler will be able to exert control over the situation and keep pressure on their opponent. The wrestler depicted here was far from great, but I can see where you were going with this. Another thing to remember is to never give a wrestler your leg. If they trap your leg, you will end up on the ground very quickly. A good defense if you are trapped in a single leg would be getting in close before they can sweep you or knock you off balance. Keep your center of gravity above the trapped leg and step down towards the ground. Really, everyone who practices martial arts should have some form of grappling in their arsenal for this exact reason. Most real fights end in a grapple situation, so you either have to know how to keep from getting in that situation, or know how to grapple.

    If this dude is a champion than he's suffered a head injury and lost his ability to wrestle. Literally the first rule of wrestling is "head up, chest forward". This dude throwing doubles bent at the waist like that is gonna get sprawled on all day. You seem like a nice guy Jake, but you're hawking bullshit here. Anyone with even a high school understanding of wrestling is going to blast through those last two moves and probably your sprawl too. I don't mind you hitting fruit with nunchucks, but this horse shit is going to get someone hurt. You wanna learn to fight wrestlers? Learn to wrestle. It isn't too terribly hard to stop takedowns if that's your only goal. You could train takedowns for 6 months at an mma gym and stop 99.9% of doubles the world could ever throw at you. Don't try these things though, your best bet if you plan on fighting trained grapplers while not knowing how to grapple is to understand that if you get to the ground you're going to get molested. Grapplers put hours, days, months, years into the ability to hold a man down and potentially kill him. If you think you'll nulify all that work with this you're delusional.

I boxed for years before starting to learn to grapple. My boxing doesn't mean shit if I can't stay on my feet. It sucks to have to start all over in a way, but I'd be lying to myself if I thought it was this easy.

    • @IHateHandleNames
      @IHateHandleNames 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sportsmanrob4625 it's such horse-shit. That double the dude threw was horrible. You could sprawl on him all day with his head down like that. Then he said "it's basically just a spear". No, Goldberg, it's not. There are like 5 different types of doubles. You can power through. You can lift. You can duck-under and take the back. You can use it to get your opponent to post on you then start working upper body throws. His lack of knowledge is so obvious. The single was pretty laughable too. If he was a state champ he'd have taken Jake down within seconds of them playfully wrestling.

      @noahkail5066 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah being a wrestler for 17 years and wrestling in college I have noticed that heavyweights are not the best to learn shooting techniques from. Heavyweight style and technique differs from every other weight class so much. You guys are exactly right with the head and chest needing to be up. And a lot of people will teach forehead in the belly of sternum when shooting a double leg even though head to the outside is good as well, in a fight shooting with the head outside can put you in a guillotine especially with your head down like that. Just watch ufc title fight werdum vs valasquez.

      While the technique was atrocious I can tell you that I use these takedowns all the time and don't get guillotine. Leg attacks are three part. The shot itself is the middle. The set up is the most important because it makes the finish easier and the finish will keep you safe from guillotine or strikes and will also afford you the ability to end up in a good controlling position as the action goes to the ground. I love when I get someone that tries the guillotine while I'm finishing a good double leg because if they hang on you just reach up and lock hands around the head and choke them out with your shoulder.

    • @kickstartgaming69
      @kickstartgaming69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Greekwrestler900 I hate to tell you but if you are fighting a jiu jitsu guy, they are gonna pull guard, guillotine you, and there is fuck all you can do. Wrestling can teach you a ton about body control and take-downs, the problem is in a real combat/fight scenario when your eyes are scratched and stabbed by fingers, Bites, throat thrusts, ears being torn apart, testicles being crushed and yes weapons like knives being used being on the ground is actually a very dangerous place to be for both people. Even an average guy can kill or several injure a seasoned MMA or Martial Arts man in a live or die state or mind.
    I trained with a lot of MMA guys and friends who were in wrestling and Brazilian Jujitsu and we would roll around on the ground and they'd pin me and tap me out a lot. When we were done and hanging out after training they would ask me why I kept tapping their cup during the spar. I simply replied, that is how many times I beat you in a real fight. They train for rules, I don't. They would most likely get maimed or killed in a real fight.

  • @bomboy422
    @bomboy422 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is downright silly. I’ve tried to stop wrestlers in BJJ class and it’s hell. This guys knees are obviously worn out and he’s lost his speed. When a wrestler wants to double leg you, you’re going flying. Do all the burpies you want, not gonna help. Trying that “ridge hand” is just got to make your wrestler chain off to a double leg, or a different single leg. Learn juijitsu and get used to being thrown around by wrestlers, I’m pretty sure that’s the only reasonable defense.

  • @shawnmartin1306
    @shawnmartin1306 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Face should be in middle not on side. The defense for that shot is guilatine since head is on outside. Good luck spinning someone who trains grappling with that move. To defend takedowns learn grappling lol That dudes sprawl sucked too.

  • @JadenHarrah

    Wrestlers call that a crossface. Wrestlers also know how to work around it. A decent wrestler doesn't fall after either.

    I won’t pretend to know if this would or wouldn’t work as I haven’t tried it. I may post back later if I ever have the opportunity to test it out. But my preference would be to just drop downward elbows on the top of their skull. There’s a knockout point there and it’s the quickest and most trusty thing I can think of for my skill level. There are better ways to handle these takedowns, but I’m not good enough to pull them off yet.

    • @nrm0051

    Just one thing. Do not ever get comfortable being on the bottom. You want to be the one pinning, on top. With someone forty lbs over your weight they will wait for you to shoot I wrestled 130-135 for tournaments. In practice got stuck with a 180 ponder or heavy weight, you cant throw them with a simple arm sweep, and if they shoot their not using their weight correctly. If you do get on top of a 180 and your as light as me they turn over and said you. On the street I would just run from the big guy, he does not have the conditioning for it, you heard how hard he was breathing, just run. Don't take a shot.

    I'm just happy is not like some other channels that think punching or kicking then as block for a takedown it something possible. But, Maybe don't get a wrestler that's too big to do takedowns like that. If a wrestler that big if going to hurt you he's going to throw or trip you mostly. Try a smaller guy because they are faster and will show you how to get around the sprawl like every wrestler can do.

  • @dnky00
    @dnky00 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like this being real cause you can see the struggle, without training (staying active as they said) , this is hard to make it work. >50% of the time you get wrecked by the bigger wrestler if he manage to get you down with first dash.

  • @kobiesboxing4956
    @kobiesboxing4956 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the past I've looked at sprawing as only being a good ideal to stop a take down if you're as big of a guy as the guy that's trying to take you down. But not such a good ideal if you're a much smaller person than the pursuing wrestler in which I still feel like that. But those other moves you showed might be good take down defense even if you're the much smaller man. But any way I got my own way of stopping a take down that involves countering the take down artist with strikes.

  • @joshuarubin6641
    @joshuarubin6641 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Basically very basic defense you learn on your first day in wrestling, sprawl and cross face(except cross face is shown wrong)
    The double leg was wrong, and the single leg was wrong.
    But to his credit, there is no video that he could possibly make that would prepare you for a TD from good wrestler. These would work for against a guy with little wrestling experience.

    yup these techniques have little chance of succeeding against even a low level wrestler thats are used to spar non stop for 3-5 minutes rounds and the opponent is aggressively attacking all teh time BUT teh chance of you picking up a wrestler in a street fight is very low indeed. if you have a good sprawl like what our sifu here suggested, that would be enough to omit a pedestrian turned grappler takedown attempt and give you time to run away.

  • @jsp816

    Actually while I agree the big guy is a bit rusty this scenario could help someone on the street. Most fights on the street are not great wrestlers or MMA fighters . You can always tell a fraud because they keep talking about how they're taking martial arts . The real fighters don't sit around talking about it. This is a scenario where a bigger guy (probably drunk) might come at a smaller guy in a bar or something . While sloppy, it doesn't mean the basic principles here aren't somewhat effective.

    What happens when they do an arm drag or get a gable grip behind your shoulder? Or better yet when you sprawl and they go for the underhook and start going for your back?
    There is an incorrect assumption here that the only way a person can be taken to the ground is by double or single leg takedown. Also putting your arm across the face like that is not going to make them spin around.
    If you want to know how to stop a grappler you have to know how to grapple.
