    Some interesting thoughts on how to use the shelf. What I have found with using a small shelf as a rest for my thumb is it creates a better more comfortable and consistent shape to the hand. This in turn gives a more consistent anchor. Because you create a more consistent contact with the chin. There is also no metal contacting the face and neck area. Improved comfort and hand shape benefits the consistency which tightens groups.

      That's how I've been using it as well, resting my thumb on top of it, providing a solid anchor. Seems to work well enough.

    Some folks are using shelf as thumb support. Having shelf on lower position and thumb over the shelf. I think it is not very consistent way and only tried that for a brief amount of time. I would love to hear your opinion on that.

    So throrough. When I 1st started I had a tendency to want my thumb to be in completely the wrong position and tucking it under the shelf was really helpful for my form. I never considered adjusting it in the various ways you described. I guess all of the equipment should be very customised especially if your shooting at a high level and so frequently.

    Can you talk about the pinky hook, and how to set up the tab for Barebow anchor? I was told that the pinky hook is bad for Barebow and wanted to learn more about the reasons behind it. Thanks!

    You can also use the tab in barebow by hooking it under the cheekbone.

    People with wider chin cannot anchor with 1st knuckle under jaw but have to use shelf IMO. The string hooked in fingers and anchored to the side of the chin does not allow to anchor deeper towards the neck to make bone-to-bone contact between 1st knuckle and jaw. People with narrow chin do not need shelf as they can anchor deeper towards the neck.

    I know archers who use it as a place to rest their thumb and anchor with the thumb What do you think of that?

    • @dnakoldarkside6358
      @dnakoldarkside6358 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i use it as thumb rest as well. more comfy that way. metal on bone feels cold... and off

    • @RealityCheckThat
      @RealityCheckThat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I thought it was for, as a thumb rest. I never would have thought of it as an anchor.

      I've shot like this too, stopped after changing tabs.

      That's how i learned to shoot with it. Never would have thought of ripping the metal over my neck, so thumb rest is the only obvious way to use it. I see the advantage though. The tab came pre-screwed and in lowered position, but looking at it ... yes, it would be possible to "misuse" it in the way shown.

    I use shelf on my KSL tab in its lowest position to lock the elastic band in place. The shelf doesn’t touch my chin.

    Can you share where I can find a similar fingertab?

    I tried so many times to use a shelf to anchor, but at the end of the training I had a big bruise in the skin where the shelf was.
    Now I am doing like a barebow anchor, with my index finger between the jaw and the lane of theeth. It's consistent, but I can't reach easily further distances.
    Is that ok? Do you have any recommendations?
    Btw love your videos, greetings from Argentina

    So can you use a shelf for barebow? And can you use multiple tabs with different shelf heights during a round??

      Not sure. Nothing I read against it in the rule book though.

    The shelf securing screws that come with this tab are gross: they’re proud by about 3-4mm! But in the thumbnail image for this video, and fleetingly in some early shots, we can see that you (JK) have replaced the supplied screws with a single almost-flush screw. This is an important change, because the supplied screws are painful and interfere with the release. But you don’t mention this? I hope this isn’t to do with your AAE sponsorship….

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A question instead of an accusation would be nice.
      I never use a shelf and always take it off as stated in the video. The screw I used was one I had laying around.
      I didn’t mention that I didn’t use a certain screw because I wasn’t aware it was not the correct one.
      Feel free to reach out to AAE and let them know you are unhappy. I’m not sure what screw could possibly stick out past the shelf to touch your neck or to be painful. Sorry for your negative experience
