  • This is my second video in which I'm going over the process of clock re-bushing and proposing a method for finding the exact position of the original pivot holes, not using the traditional Centering Bit tool.

Drill press not press drill. Also. there is small bit of loose-ness from the factory in the pivot hole. You are actually moving your hole OFF center ass opposed to on center. With this method you are not likely to find the center but be slightly off. The way to find the center is with a taper cut or diameter that more closely fills the original hole or the pointed bit. At the end of the day. clocks are so sloppy that it is not likely to make a big difference even if you are now drilling the hole slightly off the original center. Consider using some tapered steel centered into a chuck as your guide and have an assortment. This way you can use your fantastic method yet find the center even closer. A shaft with a slight taper ground into it would the best method Not the arrow shaped tool with the abrupt point. I think your method has better potential for centering especially if the shaft you had made was tapered and would stop at one point while being sure to push away from worn area. You would also have to drive your tapered pin through a hole below to index the hole center! I love your videos!! If you write a script before making your video and practice it you might also avoid um am and uh's in the first 2 minutes you did such 17 times.

This man does not claim to be an expert or a professional clock repairer rather than someone who has taken the time to share his knowledge,if your such an expert then maybe you should make a video and we can see you um hu and emm, then again probably not as it’s easier to sit back and criticise others.

@@TheCgb123 Thanks for your message, Again I was not making fun or criticizing to hurt his feelings, just making him aware and providing constructive criticisms to improve the quality of his videos in the future. Perhaps I will make a video in the future, I will be sure to take my on advice at that time!

I'm a hobbyist as well trying to learn all that is possible. Where do you acquire a correctly sized taper cut centering tool for a particular clock pivot hole? Regards, Curt Klemenz

Hi Tom, thank you very much for spending the time writing your opinion and suggestions to improve the method. The problem is that English is not my native language so I'm not so familiar with some of the terminology. I will try to study your answer deeper, I'm sure I will be learning from it!
Last but not least, thank for your feedback about writing script. I do want to improve my video presentation skills. many thx!

Tom - I'd like to hear how well you do with speaking another language. You counted how many times he hesitated? The man shares his knowledge and saved people from buying a bushing machine for $1100.00 and this is the response he gets? By the way, you used the word "ass," I guess that says it all.
