    Once you have removed the lower tailgate carpet, I recommend temporarily putting one stay white and ball back on to prevent the foot paint getting soiled, if the white foam you have used should slip off the bumper.

    Great video - LRP has some interesting kit on their website. Just ordered a low profile roof rack from them.
    This inside release handle is primarily useful for people camping inside the back of the Disco - since the rear hatch can be opened from the inside while you are inside. The “insurance against failed latch” is a secondary benefit.

  • @Rickwardful

    I have had similar problems on my 2005 LR3.
    A couple of years ago my upper tailgate switch stopped working. Managed to doctor the switch and fit a simple press button ‘horn’ type switch, still fully enclosed behind the rubber cover that protected the original micro switch.
    But just recently it stopped working again, due to badly corroded wires leading to the switch. I cut out all the rot and replaced it with new wires, tapped it all up to prevent moisture ingress and now it works fine again.
    However, due to the age of the vehicle, just in case the actuator fails , I have also attached a Bowden cable from an old bicycle brakes to the actuator mechanism, using and M6 bolt, nyloc nut and 2 washers to act as the clamp joining the Bowden cable to the original.

    Excellent video - as always, thanks. This is what every Disco 3/4 should have. But, I think it would be a good idea to remove and replace the rubber covering instead of cutting it. This way the actuator would still be properly sealed and damp protected after the modification. I assume the rubber is to help protect the actuator from any igress of moisture.

    Damn, great product and as usual Simon a very informative and entertaining video. I just wish you had done this 4 weeks ago when my actuator packed it in. Not going to bother now that a D300 Defender is on order, although the way that is going I might still need it 😂 Ordered in late May and still don't have a build date. Apparently the 11.4" screen is the delay.

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lead time for the Defenders seems to be getting longer... we were really lucky to get one of the first ones. Interesting the 11.4 screen is the issue but it makes a huge difference and for the extra £140 is the best value extra in the build offering !

    • @waynelaughton3812
      @waynelaughton3812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the bigger screen and the eDiff would be the best value from what we have ordered. As for delays, we also have the tyranny of shipping to Oz, which according to a mate in that industry is about 2 months.
      Love the vids and some of your ideas. Will definitely look at the cargo light, reversing lights and probably the recovery eye hooks. By the time we take delivery, there will probably be a few other items I'm sure.

    • @waynelaughton3812
      @waynelaughton3812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, on the screen delay, just what the dealer has told us. Could not understand why they can't build if this is the only part they are waiting for, although if there are a lot of cars they can't deliver because of this part, they would have to store the 'unfinished' vehicles somewhere. And that may be a problem.
      There does appear to be a world wide shortage of some computer chips used for graphics cards (Bitcoin miners sucking them up apparently). If this is correct, maybe contributing to the delay.

    Great video and most instructive however if the actuator fails with the back locked and the upper door down there is no way to get at the screws that hold the top cover of the carpet. In my case the only way to access the actuator and replace it was by cutting a hole in the lower door lining above the actuator which then needed to be replaced or repaired. This item would be excellent as a safety precaution in case of a failure. Enjoy your wry humour.

    No good boys the very end pin that has a 90 bend is what usually breaks (built obsolescence and several hundreds of dollars into bloody JLR POCKETS) and not the actuator, so this fix doesn't cover all Land Rover typical shite. I used 3 long 6 cents each cable ties as the South African video shows. 2 tie all together so if the 90 degree end piece breaks and actuator stuffs up and you tie the third very long cable tie to poke out between the carpet and plastic trim. Then if anything goes just pull the cable tie. All up 18 cents, works much better quicker to install and a few thousand % cheaper than those bibs and bobs.

  • @mf303
    @mf303 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good video and a well-engineered solution. But on reflection the location chosen for the release handle is sub-optimal - I’ve been looking at putting a fridge in the boot and the most logical place would block access to the release handle. I’ve also been thinking about a sleeping platform, and the best solution seems to be at parcel shelf (or there abouts) level, and that would make access to the handle tricky at best. So it seems it’s only in the best place for that rare camera person who wants to illegally film from the back of a moving car.
    I think a better location would be somewhere just behind the second row of seats, at parcel shelf level. I know that would make getting the Bowden cable out of the lower tailgate, but to my thinking it would be a better solution for all scenarios - even the luny camera person could still access it!

    • @johnwillett4086

    Land rover don't seem to be very good at the details, do they?. It's like they seem to forget that their vehicles will go wrong at some point and access will be needed.
