Bummer watching the History Building get demolished. I've never actually been to Excelsior, or LA at all for that matter, but I've seen Grease 2 about a thousand times. I kind of studied the design of the school, marking off where certain scenes were filmed, marking them on Google Earth. After that, I made a 3D model of Rydell / Excelsior, based off of a map I snapped from it. The History Building was still there when I made the model, so I kept it intact. Very sweet video, too.
The sitcom, 'Square Pegs', starring a very young, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Ricky Nelson's daughter, Tracy Nelson, was filmed at Excelsior from 1982 to 1983.
School with a lot of history. A few films/tv shows have shot here and I think a President's wife went here for hs. It's an adult school now, but was also a church for some years in the late 80's til the early 2000s. It has a tiny gymnasium. I know because I'd make out with this girl from church on Sundays in there when I was 14/15. Broke the lock off and snuck in through the locker rooms. 👍🏽
That's where they filmed "Grease 2". I lived a couple of blocks from there. But I see the school still on Google Earth. So maybe only a part was demolished.
It must be noted that the school opened in 1902 well before the current buildings were built. My freshman yearbook; www.classmates.com/siteui/yearbooks/160879
Of course, the foundation is too damaged to make it possible, but if they went to all the trouble, there's no way it would reopen as anything but Excelsior High School. No real point of going to the hassle only to change the name. Might as well bulldoze it and rebuilld altogether. But then, there's no need in the area for another high school.
It almost brought tears to my eyes. 44 years ago this month I graduated. Where did all that time go. Steven Lewis class of 72

I wish the Norwalk-La Mirada District should reopen this school as Jordan High School
How did you arrive at that name?

It’s opened. It’s an adult school now. Still Excelsior.
I hope they rename it Jordan High School and they should make it better that all the students want
karla Franco there's already a Jordan high in Lakewood which is only 15 mins away they should update it and keep the name for history
@@isaakduarte1587 it's called David Starr Jordan high in North Long Beach CA actually. I went there.
ugh. Hate seeing this.
