I've had my GI model for 5 years now put 4800 rounds through it so far. I've also replaced Springs and internals with Wilson combat accessories that I fitted myself. It's a good weapon I carry it everywhere here in Texas.

I'd like to do what you did. Get a Rock Island GI model and be able to upgrade the internals. I like the GI look of no front cocking serrations on the slide and the original fine vertical serrations on the rear of the slide. How are the frame holes, are they true to parallel? Are the internals clean of machining marks?

@danilobadua7775 I'm not the one from the original comment, but might be helpful. A lot of the internal components as well as the slide and barrel from my 1943 Colt GI are interchangeable with the Rock Islands. You will notice more marks from the machining on the Rock Islands than the higher end 1911A1's at least from my experience.

What grips and magazine are those?

Plastic GI Grips - available on eBay. The magazine is just a flat baseplate 8 round Colt in blue.

1911s are pretty damn basic at this point. There was a time when you had Production guns like Kimber, who were the ONLY game in town when it came with 1911s with "competition" upgrades standard, like skeletonized triggers and hammers, extended beaver tail, high vis sights, front checkering, "match tuned" barrels with polished feed ramps, etc. Their successes lead to so many companies doing similar things, including Armscor, but Armscor can do it for under $700. That's a huge deal.

Also have one - my friends told me it would fail- it would stovepipe shells, that the mag wouldn’t load or it would blow up at this price
    - instead it’s been fun, reliable and a great value
Rock Island is just exposing the profit the other guys have been making off 1911 buyers-
    Buy with confidence

They are solid and well made especially the newer made ones because Armscor invested heavily in the latest CNC machines. I bought the RIA Pro Match Ultra FS. The fitting and blending of parts is as good as a few of the Dan Wesson Pointman 7-45 I've seen. Where the Rock Island fell short was in the finishing.

Armscor has very precise and modern manufacturing equipment. When things go wrong with 1911s, it's usually the recoil spring, extractor spring, and/or magazine springs. If anyone ever has problems with their 1911, I would always start with replacing those with something known to be high quality, like wilson combat parts and Wolff Springs. Other than those, check for burrs and such. If it's an actual problem with the metallurgy of the gun and manufacturing, Armscor replaces the entire thing. They're pretty good at service.

Nice. Simple. The older I get, the more I find a no frills 1911 enticing.

The Armscor 1911s are amazing value for the money. I have a Taylors Tactical 1911, basically a completely decked out version with the rail, fiber optic adjustable sights, skeletonized hammer and trigger, the works. Got it on a crazy sale from PSA for $499. Only problem I ever had with it was due to the cheap ass KCI mags it came with. Swapped those for some Wilson Combat stainless mags and it runs flawlessly. Fantastic pistol. I'd like to get into a bare bones, GI version like this one if I ever find another great deal.

It’s either an 11 or an A1. Which is it? It has mostly A1 parts , but has an 11 mainspring housing!

Theyre labeled A1 but I was thinking about that recently. It has some features of the older 1911
