You-rith-mix 😊
The original of this is an electronic more upbeat dance type of song. This is totally different. Annie Lennox has an incredible voice. She can sing anything. She does Soul so well. You'd love her duet with Aretha Franklin on "Sisters are Doing it For Themselves". A Spanish guitar has nylon or gut strings whereas most regular guitars have metal strings and the Spanish guitar neck is make of a solid piece of wood, and the strings have less tension. Dave Stewart is an incredible musician and music producer. They were together as the Eurythmics, and then Annie went solo but after quite a few albums. He did some solo work and has produced for many other artists.
On this it's the style he's playing. He's using a flat pick, which is not a typical Spanish technique, his left hand is AMAZING, and the semi-flamenco, jazzy style does sound Spanish. Passionate voice and lyrics, fierce acoustic guitar.
PS Almost all guitars have solid necks.
Sweet Dreams, Here Comes the Rain Again, Missionary Man, Walking on Broken Glass... so many great hits. Spectacular vocalist, they are a great rep of the 80s. Yer-Rith-Micks. Studio version has a much different feel. This is subdued and the original is upbeat.
Well said!
Annie Lennox could sing the phone book, and it would sound fantastic.
Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox are the duo, Eurythmics.
She was and still is to me the best voice and coolest woman to come out of the 80’s.
Her first solo album, "Diva" is exquisite. Every track.
Annie Lennox is legendary. My favorites from her are "Sweet Dreams", "Why", and "Walking on Broken Glass".
You’re correct. Annie Lennox rules!
Eurythmics hired a flutist for the 1999 “Peace” reunion tour. Annie Lennox is a classically trained flutist, and played it in a few songs during their “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This” and “Touch” tours in 1982-83 and 1983-1984.
Flautist...you're welcome 👍
"Church of melonated persuasion" - I'm dying lol. Annie Lennox, whether solo or in the Eurythmics, is, IMHO, one of the greatest vocalists of all time. She got hurt in life and turned it into one of the most popular albums of all time, "Diva". There were several hits from that album, my personal favorite being "Walking on Broken Glass". In addition to her musical prowess, she is also a genuinely caring human being who does much in the world for everyone.
She is an original and unique artist for sure. Had the pleasure of seeing her live on a tour with Sting many years ago. Great stuff.
Was also there at the Saddledome. Annie stole the show!
Yer-Rith-Micks ( Yer like in "Europe", Rith like in "Rhythm").
You should check out Annie Lenox doing her song Why, live in 2000 for a Clive Davis anniversary. It's epic.
I'll add my vote for your request.
Eurythmics. Among the very best of their era. And beyond. Great reaction. Keep up the great work!
You said Eurythmics perfectly at the end there; wtg! :)
Normally I say listen to the studio version, but there's no such thing as a bad version with her, and this was gorgeous. It does sound very different from the studio version, so much so you'll feel like you're hearing a totally different song if you hear the studio version, but both are fantastic. Only love for Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics.
You reacted to their song “Would I lie to you “ almost a year ago 😊
EUR adorable. It was that simple all the time... Eurythmics!
Finally you had the name right - biggest hit: Sweet Dreams.
One of the oddest videos ever. But I like cows.
Eu…ryth…..mics. Like You rith miks…… superb to see you silenced by a voice. Goosebumps.
Lol that's funny yes it was that easy, Annie Lenox is so freaking incredible...
🇨🇦 Released in 1983, but the bigger hit from Eurythmics (Eur as in Europe, rythm as in rythm, mics as in mix) was "Sweet Dreams" !
Another star from that era and of a similar vein, is Sade ! One of her biggest hits is "The Sweetest Taboo" ! 🇨🇦
Love Sade!
So many great songs from the Eurythmics and Annie on her own! 'Here Comes the Rain Again,' 'I Need a Man,' 'There Must Be an Angel,' ' Sweet Dream are Made of This,' and 'Missionary Man' are just a few, but you can't go wrong!
So much to explore with Annie Lennox! Check out “Many Rivers to Cross” live. Also “Why” is a huge classic. Biggest hit was “Sweet dreams are made of these” ❤️🔥
Annie Lennox has an amazing voice and really unique style. Her and Dave Stewart are a wonderful creative combination. Glad you got the pronunciation. Annie Oakley was a Wild West star, she was a sharpshooter in the circus. Eurythmics are kind of the rock version of Sugarland, a man/woman duet that just clicks creatively.
She also has a solo album Diva every song on it is fire.
This is a slowed down version of the original. You definitely need to listen to more of their work. You will love it.
Miracle of love live in Oz is a fab video which shows Annie’s superb vocals and what a great live band they are.
When Annie Lennox came out she did the unisex craze look. She does have a very powerful voice.
You should see Dave Stewart with Candy Dulfur doing Lily was here, title track from the movie of the same name. Prince, a man that played 27 instruments called Candy the greatest Saxophone player alive and invited her to tour with him. She was 17 at the time. She's European, that's why most Americans don't know who she is. Lily was here Candy Dulfur and Dave Stewart 1984.
Their cover of the classic Christmas song , Walking In A Winter wonderland is The best one ever !!!!
Yeah, Annie is a fantastic singer - this was a synth hit in the 80's You have a great voice yourself!
I've been familiar with this song for a billion years from the album version, and it was never one of my favorites of theirs. This is fantastic; thanks for introducing me.
Dave and Annie are Eurythmics; Eurythmics is Dave and Annie.
Flautist. ;-)
Simply the best Diva from the '80s, '90s, '00s - react to her solo singing WHY and WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS from her album Diva, as well as her cover of Bob Marley's WAITING IN VAIN, as well as NO MORE "I LOVE YOU'S". And with Eurythmics (You-rhythm-ix) SWEET DREAMS, WOULD I LIE TO YOU?, MISSIONARY MAN, and the official music video to LOVE IS A STRANGER.
Great reaction. Annie Lennox, is one of the Great Voices in whatever genre she performs in. Like Linda Ronstadt, she can Sing anything beautifully. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These) and Into the West from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King soundtrack are just two examples.
A Spanish or Classical Guitar is acoustic but with sheep gut or nylon strings. Most acoustic guitars played in Country, Rock, etc have steel strings. Willie Nelson's guitar (Trigger) has nylon strings giving it a unique sound. Traditionally, Classical guitars don't have pick guards, because picks are not used. They are played with the fingers (finger picking). It is usually easy to pick out a Classically trained guitarist, even in Rock, because they wil pluck the strings with their fingernails. The thumb plays the top three bass strings and index, middle, and ring fingers play the lower three on a six string. The little finger is sometimes used for fast arpeggios, etc. Some people go so far as to say, "Picks are for punks," but I disagree. Picks do have their place, but, for me, that place is usually in my gig bag.
Have you heard Rhiannon Giddens. She is another versatile singer with an awesome voice. She also plays a bad a$$ banjo. Check out her version of the song Ruby. Bye.
First time seeing/hearing this version of this song, totally different from the original but I love it.
Hi Britt Annie Lennox Scottish singer songwriter, political, activist, and philanthropist,Annie has 8 Britt Awards, best British female artist a record 6 times, 4 Grammy awards,a total of 29 music awards altogether, she was named the greatest white soul singer alive, Annie went solo in 1992 her debut album called DIVA produced several hits, I cannot endorse enough you must check out Annie’s music video for the Song ( WHY ) a awesome video, great reaction thanks 🙏
This is a newer, more mystical take on the song. The original album version was more electric, with Dave playing an electric guitar with a lot of palm-muted riffs and a level of reverb almost at the classic surf-guitar level. Great tune. Annie is one of the best singers ever!
This live performance of “Who’s That Girl?”, by Eurythmics, appears to be taken during their 1999 “Peace” reunion tour, to promote their 1999 album, “Peace”. The proceeds from the album went to two charitable organizations: Amnesty International and Greenpeace. Annie Lennox wore combat fatigues/battle dress uniforms and shiny silver winter parkas for their final show on this tour, which took place at London Docklands Arena on December 6, 1999, and the concert was recorded and released on VHS and DVD.
The song and music video was originally released in 1983, to promote the duo’s album, “Touch”. From 1986 onward, Eurythmics would perform this song with just Dave Stewart’s acoustic guitar and Annie Lennox’ singing voice while on tour.
Dave Stewart also wore the combat fatigues/battle dress uniform also.
Their catalogue is well worth a deep dive, particularly their first few albums. Annie is an incredible singer, she held her own with Aretha on a duet. You should watch the official video for this song. It ends with Annie kissing herself on the lips.
Annie Lennox was the commencement speaker at Berklee when my son Graduated....it was so great...
One of my favorite bands and voices
Annie Oakley was a sharp shooter on wils Bills Western show. There isba musical called Annie Get Your Gun about her.
love me some Eurythmics! 80's kid!!
I know you have listened to Kelly Clarkson...Kelly loves Annie and you can see her influence on Kelly after hearing her sing!
Thanks for reminding me of music that I love and for whatever reason leaves your brain, but not your soul.
Need to check out more of her work Britt.
Dave Stewart is playing a regular acoustic guitar on the song. Britt, the reason that you HEAR it, as sounding Spanish, is because he is using the harmonic minor scale in certain guitar passages within the song. The Harmonic minor scale is prevalent in Spanish music. It has a very distinctive sound. It differs from the Major scale because it has a flat 3rd and a flat 6th.
Britt, you are a blessing! Love your reactions. I believe the term you are looking for is flautist (pronounced flautist - as in flower)!
Oh thank you!
Annie Oakley was a sharp-shooter with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show way back at the 1890's, 1900's.
Dave Stewart played the acoustic guitar solo at the end of the song.
She has some solo music that is incredible. Her Jazz standard album is top notch.
Greetings from Canada.You- rhythm- mix. Peace, love and bellbottoms.
Do you remember the famous Eurythmics song' There Must Be An Angel', 'Thorn In My Side' and 'Here Comes The Rain Again'? And Annie Lennox - 'Why'?
Whenever I see or hear Annie, I remember my wife and how much I miss her. Life never has been right since., Since it is clear you do not know check out some of Annie's beginnings with the (Eurythmics ) partner Dave Stewart helped her transition into a successful solo career that produced many hit songs and earned her numerous awards and accolades
Eurythmics are pronounced as “your-RITH-mics”, and the duo’s name was based upon the performance art of Eurythmy, which involves moving in rhythm to music.
oh Annie!!!
You should react to Annie Lennox and David Bowie singing "Under Pressure" with Queen at Wembley Stadium. Awesome performance AND you'll get to see how cool Annie Lennox is... in front of a hundred thousand people! Freddy had already passed away at that point and Annie was singing his part of the song. If I'm not mistaken this concert was a tribute to Freddy.
Was just coming to say this.
Great performance
Spanish guitars usually have nylon strings like classical guitars but the body is different giving it a different sound. Acoustic guitars have metal strings. Dave Stewart plays an acoustic guitar here.
The reason that Britt, and the rest of us, perceive that the guitar as sounding "Spanish" is because Dave Stewart is using the harmonic minor scale over certain passages within the song. The harmonic minor scale is prevalent in Spanish music and differs from a major scale because the 3rd and the 6th note of the scale are lowered/flatted.
Pronounce it as “you-rith-mics” Best live band I’ve seen They are insane and Annie’s voice Obv amazing and Dave is most underrated guitarist ever!!!
Thank you!
Another cool performance by Annie Lennox would be her performance at the Grammys with Hozier. She did a duet on his song Take Me To Church, followed by I put a spell on you. Check it out
Reminder- You reacted to their amazing video for “Would I lie to you?”.
You LOVED IT.
Hey Britt! Don’t worry we all got it wrong In The beginning. lol.
Anything by Annie Lennox is a win to me!! Dive in she’s awesome!❤
An amazing duo! Urithmics. Long U 😆. Annie Lennox's voice is freaking awesome!!! Add in the musical genius of Dave..... ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Think of it like EUR (Europe) Rythimics (Rhythm) combined and you get Eurythmics. And yes, she is largely under-rated for her time but those in the "know" recognized her genius. The band's accompanists were also brilliant as well. They could flip between traditional guitar etc to variations. e.g. One can play the violin or one can play fiddle... same instrument but the play style is different. Sometimes the number of strings change etc but they are the same instrument, just a different playstyle.
Person who plays the flute - flautist - everywhere but the US, flutist in the US
Britt, if you appreciate Ms Lennox, you will absolutely go insane for her track called “Love Song for a Vampire”….. She really lays it out there on that masterpiece. Heavily Haunting….
Sweet Dreams are Made of These, and Missionary Man.
The acoustic guitar is a popular choice for various music genres, such as rock, pop, country, and folk. It typically has steel strings and produces a loud, bright sound. It has a narrow neck, which makes it easier to navigate for players with smaller hands. The construction of an acoustic guitar allows for a variety of playing techniques, such as fingerpicking and strumming.
In contrast, the classical guitar is most commonly associated with classical, flamenco, and Latin music styles. Instead of steel strings, classical guitars have nylon strings, giving them a warmer, mellower sound. The neck of a classical guitar is wider, providing more space between the strings and facilitating fingerstyle playing. Classical guitarists often employ techniques that focus on fingerpicking and plucking, rather than strumming. Spanish or Flamenco is a style of music usually played on a Classical guitar.
Oh, Britt, that was so fun!!!!
U-ryth-miks.. Dynamic Duo
Britt, pronounced the
'Your ith micks'
Annie Lennox is a genius.
7:00 Not a Spanish guitar, but Dave is kind of playing some notes in a classical style. This acoustic-electric guitar differs from a Spanish classical guitar:
- upper strings steel instead of nylon;
- a cutout of the body to allow access to higher frets than the 12th (the octave);
- pickups or microphone built in;
- often some protection plate under the hole to prevent scratches from a pick while strumming (you don't use a pick on a classical guitar);
- attachment points for a strap.
Spanish guitar generally has nylon strings, though any 'standard' acoustic can be strung with them too. Generally though, most acoustics, being used for rhythm, will have steel strings - giving a sharper, bell-like sound. Dave Stewart is playing an acoustic here - but the melody is played in a Spanish/classical style. Great rendition of a track that was pure 'pop' at the time. Now try 'Why' by Annie Lennox solo and hang on to your seat! :)
As said by someone else, Dave and Annie are The Eurythmics. The hits were electronically-driven, so this "traditional" arrangement is a bit of a deviation. I know Britt likes to listen to live versions, but reacting to the studio release of "Sweet Dreams (are mode of this)" is good starting point to anchor future reactions to this duo.
The official music video of her Annie singing WHY is calling for your reaction.
Also "Miracle Of Love" .
Oh..... You have to check out some of her solo stuff. WHY is a great place to start. She wrote the music herself!
LOL - it's pronounced "Your - rith - micks". You were right first time about the outfit: that's DPM pattern camouflage (DPM = Disruptive Pattern Material) as invented by the British Army in the 1940s and still used widely around the world. The British army phased it out in favour of a new pattern called MTP in 2010 though. The army versions don't have fuscia linings though, funnily enough...😉
The original version of this, back in the 1980s, was much harder-edged synth-pop: you might like to react to that too, for contrast. The Eurythmics (basically Dave and Annie plus session musicians) were at the leading edge of British synth-pop in the 1980s. Dave Stewart has become a very talented producer. Annie Lennox had a successful solo career after The Eurythmics ended. She's a stunning singer who's only got better as she got older: you could check out literally anything she's done and be blown away by it. My personal favorite is Walking On Broken Glass.
Annie could be David Bowie's sister; emits such a similar energy.
yes it was that easy.loved your reaction.i do remember a mario song doing really well in the uk,cause i only remember the one didn't know if he was one hit wonder.
this is a different arrangement.please do the offical video to hear the og and see their creativeness with videos.
So many great songs....You-Rith-Micks :)
This is the correct pronunciation for the band. I have also seen the last syllable as ‘Mix’ (phonetically).
Annie is awesome. Listen to her solo stuff. The duo is British. This is so much better than the studio version.
Pronounced "Yur-Rith-Miicks"
Like yoga and pilates but more trendy
You got it!!!
💪🏽
Listen to, "Sweet Dreams".
Dave Stewart is playing a regular acoustic guitar, not a classical guitar or flamenco guitar. In comparison to an acoustic guitar, a classical or flamenco guitar uses nylon strings instead of metal strings; a tie-block bridge instead of bridge pins; 12 frets to the body instead of the typical 14 frets for an acoustic guitar; a wider neck with more space between frets; and typically side-mounted machine heads with thick tuning pegs that help to stretch nylon strings. A flamenco guitar is a slight variation on a classical guitar, in which the strings have a lower action, closer to the sound board and fret board. This gives it a different tone and makes it easier to use flamenco techniques. A Spanish guitar is a classical guitar that was made in Spain, but some people refer to any classical guitar as a Spanish guitar.
Sounds like the guitar may have some or all plastic strings or loose tune for ability to bend strings without breaking, which give it a different sound, the "echo chamber" behind the hole the sound pours out of during play is different on the different types of guitars. Most play metal strings, some i have seen mix plastic and metal. They give different and unique sound. For example Ren changes between plastic and metal strings to help provide ambiance and to create different sounds then most. There is always someone off stage stringing and tuning guitars to run on stage with when/if a string breaks.
Annie is amazing! As has already been suggested, "Sweet Dream" would be a logical one for you to seek out next. but there are so many choices.
I'll check it out!
Hi , if you love Dave Stewerts guitar playing andvthe saxophone you'll love "Dave Stwwert & Candy Dulfer .... 'Lily Was Here'
You...writh..micks ❤❤❤❤❤
Please go on an Annie Lennox deep dive!
OK, this is a fantastic performance of this song. But it's totally different from the studio version, a completely different feel, tone, beat, etc. Definitely check out the studio version! And OMG this is a rabbit hole for you.
You should absolutely check out more Eurythmics AND more Annie Lennox solo. She is an amazing talent and voice. I Put A Spell on You is a fantastic cover she does that highlights her soulful, smoky voice. For power, go for Walking on Broken Glass, Check out Here Comes The Rain Gain, Sweet Dreams (their most famous), No More I Love's You, Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, Would I Lie To You, Missionary Man. She even did some holiday songs like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
Annie Lennox "Cold"
Euro + Rhythmics = Eurythmics
;)
Surprised you have not heard of Annie. You should check out Sweet Dreams. On another note just saw Chris Stapleton and Dua Lipa kill it on the ACM awards!
You-rith-mics. From eurythmy, meaning beautiful or harmonious rhythm. Eu is a Greek root meaning "well", as in euphemism or euthanasia or eulogy; Greek word rhythm means "any regular recurring motion," which we know as "rhythm"; ic is from Greek ikos, meaning "related to" or "pertaining to." So eurythmics is a study pertaining to well-done rhythm. It was a theory developed for teaching music, esp. rhythm, to children.
"Eu" is different from the Greek "Eur," which means "wide".
Eurythmics ......
Don't Ask Me Why
Here Comes The Rain Again
You have to check out a vocalist named. "yebba " You won't be disappointed...✌️
You should REALLY check out "Lilly Was Here" by Candy Dulfer on Sax and Dave Stewart on guitar. Oh, Pronounced like Europe and Rhythm ics.
